More work to be done...always!

I've said it before but where the heck do the days go! Thank you for looking at my last post and leaving a comment. Oh, and I do appreciate my new followers. Wow! Never would I have believed that anyone would follow my blog! Thank you! Sure makes me feel like "somebody"! :)

As mama would say, I am simply worn out.  The yard was snaky looking again so I've been mowing. I started mowing on Friday but ran my little taxi cab yellow push mower up under a bush and got a limb tangled in the motor causing a tiny little spring to pop out.

The mower sputtered to a stop and died. Poppy loaded the little broken mower onto his truck and carried it with him to work on Saturday. Scott, the same guy who built the well house, fixed it for us. You know, some folks can just do anything!

During February it felt like spring would never get here. Now May, my favorite month of the year, is half over. Amazing how fast the flowers bloom and then go away...we've been through the daffodils and yellow bells, then the Azaleas and the Iris. Now the roses and peonies.

"Plant white rose" was added to my to do list for tomorrow. It needs to be in the ground. I started it from a cutting about three years ago and here it is blooming so pretty in the same  old pot.

About three weeks ago, maybe longer, I planted six Stargazer Lilies in this bed. What could have happened? Shouldn't they be coming up by now? I was so looking forward to seeing these lilies in bloom this summer.

Okay, I'm hunting and searching for something to talk about here. Guess I had better get all the animals settled in for the night. For me, the bed will feel mighty good tonight. Hope to be back soon.

Love,
Henny

  1. Wow your roses look wonderful. I'm amazed at the white one blooming away still in the pot. You must have a green thumb. Mine have a lot of buds on them but are being defoliated, I think, by tent caterpillars. They were absolutely everywhere about a week and a half ago but have disappeared and their dirty tents are appearing in trees and bushes now. Maybe a deer got your stargazers. I used to have some (they are so beautiful) but deer kept getting at them almost immediately after they appeared above ground so I dug them up and gave them to someone who has a fenced garden area to grow them in.

    1. I was totally amazed at the white rose. The bush I got the cutting from, growing in the yard, has black spot and never looks that good. My daughter in Virginia says she has never seen as many caterpillars. So far I have not seen any. We've made up for it in other insects! :)

    1. Thank you Vicki. Peonies flop over too easy. Do yours?

  4. I especially love that first picture. And yeah, May is going by too fast! We wait so long for spring, and then it comes and goes way too quickly.

  5. I'm impressed with the white rose you started from a cutting. Only three year to all those blooms!
Three weeks is not very long for lilies. Give them a bit more time.

    1. Well, I'm guessing at three years. Not much longer than that anyway. As I mentioned above, the one growing in the yard never looks good.

  6. My roses will be a while yet before they bloom, as this is a new garden I cut them hard back at the end of the autumn. All my shrubs are new young things so next year will see much more colour, this year I am relying on bulbs and annuals. Your white rose is splendid, will transplanting it in full bloom make it droop. Your Lilies will come, they just like to take their time. I do not grow them as they are poisonous to cats and I have had cats in the past and now have a daily visitor cat.

    1. Thank you. I am a little worried about transplanting. Maybe I should at least wait for these blooms to fade. I did not know about the lilies being poisonous. We have an outside cat too. Thanks.

  7. I can often be heard asking where the time has gone, it just seems to be flying by. Your garden is certainly looking good at the moment, the lilies will come.

  9. Howdy neighbor! I'm in SC now and your yard is so inspiring. We are on a tidal creek/river so we have a beautiful view and lots of possibilities for birds and gardens but I have a lot to learn about southern plants! I love the photo with the flowers and your clothes hanging on the line. Have a wonderful day, Henny.

    1. Well howdy to you neighbor! I'm so tickled for you! Yeah, I kind of worried about those clothes on the line, hoping there wasn't a row of underclothes in view. :)

  10. What a lovely garden, and look at all those roses already! I'm very impressed by the rose in the pot, you are much better at looking after potted plants than me. I have quite a few things still in pots too, but they never look like that! Mine are lucky to be just be barely alive.

    1. Well the white rose was simply luck. Did you notice the pots in the background? :) I hate to think of all the plants I've killed around here.

  12. It's funny because I just posted that I have a black thumb, but you were blessed with awesome green ones. Your garden is so beautiful. I really like that first picture the best, too. Enjoy the rest of your week... :)

    1. Hey Dee. Thank you. If you only knew the plants I killed before ever getting any to grow! :) Hope you're having a good week.

  13. I do the mowing here at our place, but I have a riding mower, I insisted. What it can't cut my husband gets with the weed whacker. It's too hot to do it any other way.

    1. Poppy has a riding mower and he mows all the open places...around the pond and the sides of the dirt path. Due to my crazy landscaping, I have to use a small push mower to get in and around everything. It drives my husband crazy. :)

  14. Your garden is just full of delightful plantings, and I know from experience how hard it is to keep on top of the grass-mowing.
I love the white rose, simply gorgeous.
Our lilies are late blooming this year, so give your Star-Gazer a little more time !

  16. it looks like you're getting a little dried out there. As I type, we are having a thunderstorm and pouring down rain for about the 40th day in a row. Our lakes are at the overflow stage and no one South of us wants our town to let out the water from the lake because it will flood them! But, after years of drought and semi-drought conditions, we're not complaining. Hope you stay dry enough to keep your plants growing.

    1. Poppy and I were saying just this morning that we could use a shower of rain. There is a chance of thunderstorms tomorrow. Good grief, you have had lots of rain!

  18. Hi, I've been browsing your posts and decided to follow. You have a very beautiful place, your garden reminds me of mom's garden together with the clothesline. I think I kinda missed home after seeing that.
