It's still icy here...in NC

As soon as Poppy was out the door and on his way to work, I got the feed together along with a couple of buckets of water and went out to take care of the animals. It worries me to think they may be thirsty and everything is frozen.

The problem here is not deep snow but hard packed ice. It's treacherous walking.

The temperature had warmed up to 16 this morning and it is supposed to be around 32 by noon.  Then we could see 42 with some rain by later in the day. I'll take the rain, by cracky!

It is very unusual for snow and ice to stay around this long and this has been here since last Tuesday. Even a few icicles still hanging around...

Janet from "my miniature donkeys" asked about the salads Poppy and I have on Friday nights. It's sure nothing special. Just a combination we both enjoy. Ingredients are...

Lettuce, shredded carrots, onions, chopped boiled eggs, Craisins, walnuts, cut up grilled chicken breast, and croutons. Poppy likes French dressing. For me...olive oil, red wine vinegar, garlic, oregano, parsley, salt and pepper. I also love grape tomatoes and cucumber in my salad. Poppy doesn't care for those.

Better get busy. Lots to do today and I want to meet the lady with the TV/VCR.

Thank you for visiting and please do come back.

Love,
Henny

PS  I know that our cold weather is nothing compared to what most of you are dealing with. We don't normally see this kind of cold for such an extended period!

  2. When I had my smallholding, the outside taps would very often freeze up and I had to drag containers of water from the house out to the animals. I don't miss that.
It snowed here today in Shropshire UK !!
    I'm freezing, can't get warm.

  3. Hope you are warming up! We were up to 24 yesterday headed to the deep freeze again tonight. I put dried cherries in my salad and almonds, we like sunflower seeds too and sometimes a bit of cheese! Stay warm! It seems unusual to see snow pics from you! :)

  7. Be careful on the ice your cousin Peggy Brown Luck fell this morning and broke her hip. She is going to have to have hip replacement. I am ready for warm weather now!! I am so tired of being cold. Let the sun shine. I don't even think I want to live were it snows a lot anymore. Hope you love your tv. Take care
    Love you bunches

  8. So sorry to hear about your continued cold weather Henny. I'm praying that you and your animals get through this and that it warms up very soon. We have had very cold weather here and for quite awhile now too....but this time of year, it's nothing new for us in Wis.. Hopefully Spring will be coming soon for all of us! Love your blog and that big white dog!!!

  9. Weather is brutal everywhere it seems. I hate ice and have fallen too many times until I got those stretch grabbers you put on your shoes or boots. The teeth grab the ice and I still have them. Take care.

  10. I'm feeling pretty smug. It is Spring here, I've seen a few daffodils blooming and a forsythia bush this morning. Beautiful weather right now! Hope your cold and snow leaves soon.

  14. THANK-YOU for the salad info. (I'll leave out the meat, though.) I have side salads frequently but may start adding main course salads once a week too.
Take a look at my question from the earlier post about your aprons, please!

  16. Yes, we are not used to the cold, but ice is a whole other problem !
So many people have ended up in the emergency room after falls, even my own Sister-in-law fell and broke her shoulder.
We are having ice dam problems now the ice has turned to rain, roofs leaking, and ceilings collapsing.
Glad to know your animals are safe, you are a wonderful caretaker.
    Hugs,
    ~Jo
