Smokey and vet

Thank you all so much for the encouraging words. Glad to know that most of you don't care for Google+ anyway. I'll stop this worrying and enjoy my blog. :)

Smokey had an appointment with the vet this morning. Here's what we found out...Smokey is for sure a boy, he has mites in both those cute little ears, and the vet thinks he is close to eight months old. I was guessing maybe five. He weighs 7.7 pounds.

For years now I've been meaning to buy a kitty carrier but keep putting it off. Nothing to do but pull out that old cage used for transporting BunBun, Bickett, and Dumperoo. It needed cleaning a bit and a kitty toy or two. Smokey thought it was his playhouse...

Eli seemed a little concerned...

How did you get in there?

Can't understand why my pictures are blurred lately.

Gosh! This weather! We are in day four of cold wet weather. Feel bad mentioning this because it's nothing compared to the long cold winters you folks up north have. It's just been such a wet rainy muddy miserable winter. No beautiful snow, just cold rain and a muddy yard. We woke up yesterday to freezing rain and everything icy...

Eli and I slid down the front steps. Yep, he was on his leash and went down first, pulling me. His feet slid right out from under him. Had I not been holding onto the post...well somebody would have been hurt.

This ice was supposed to be gone by noon yesterday but was just beginning to melt some by noon today. Sunshine and blue skies would be so appreciated right now! So appreciated!

Need to get up from here and put something on to cook for supper, AGAIN! Seems like I just got the mess cleaned up from last night's meal! Yesterday I tried a new recipe...kale stew. Then I went to Jo's blog, A Brit in Tennessee, and borrowed her buttermilk cornbread recipe.  The kale stew was good and the cornbread was delicious!

Baby Smokey had two bad old shots. He gets to rest on the bed where it's nice and warm...

Hope to be back soon.

Love,
Henny

  1. Oh Eli - you're so adorable! I can't get enough pictures of you. I'm glad Smokey survived the scary trip to the vet. And I'm sorry about the ice. I'll take snow over ice any day.

  2. Smokey probably didn't even know he had those two shots, kittens seem to always be preoccupied with everything else around them. Did the vet say it's time to get him fixed, or too young in his opinion ?
Eli looks concerned at the wire cage, but all's well at the end :)
Ice is so dangerous, especially on wooden steps, I always lay towels down on the steps to avoid slipping. I keep old ones just for that purpose.
Glad the cornbread turned out, I've never eaten Kale stew, but I love spinach, is it similiar ?
Stay warm and cosy sweet lady !

    1. It is absolutely time to get him fixed. :) Smokey has an appointment the 21st. I didn't think there was any rush unless it was a female, but the vet says no, it needs to be done soon. Jo, the towels work perfect! There were some on the porch I had used for wiping Eli's feet. I threw one on each step. The towels stuck to the ice and stayed in place. I'm keeping towels for that purpose from now on. I like spinach but I like kale better. Thank you.

  5. Glad you're ok, Henny. I hate the ice when trying to walk Kane. We have given up for now. Warmer weather on it's way, though. Hope it stops raining in your area. Nothing worse than cold rain. Hope Smokey feels better soon. Audrey does not do well with vaccinations. She gets a fever and is very quiet for a day or two. I just give her even MORE attention. She's very pampered. haha! Have a nice evening. Deb

    1. I can tell Miss Audrey is very pampered...as well as the others. Smokey seem to feel okay. He is playful this morning.

  6. Freezing rain can make for some great photo ops, but can be incredibly dangerous as you nearly found out. When it gets thick enough trees and power lines come crashing down.
I thought maybe Smokey had gone to be neutered. Shots are easier on animals if they don't get more than one at a time, but I know, it's a matter of expense and time.
Have you unknowingly changed a setting on your camera, or maybe these extra dark days are making it darker in the house. Low light and a moving subject, or the camera moving while taking the shot will lead to blurriness.
Hope you get some sunshine soon, we lucked out and got a sunny day yesterday. It does a lot to make you feel better:)

    1. I do need to check my camera. I probably have changed something. The sun is out this morning for the first time since last Sunday! I need to be out there in it! Smokey goes back to the vet next week to be neutered.

  8. Arent the GP's so caring. They show concern for other animals so easily. I am so NOT letting Keeper see this post because I know a big white dog in Texas that would so be saying... how come Eli gets to sit in the chair??? Huh Mom Huh? I need to bath and groom Keeper really bad. Whew he is a full time job nearly. LOL Eli always looks so perfect. Glad you guys didn't have a worse hap on the ice stairs.. whew

    1. Yes, they are very caring. Eli is not as clean as he looks in pictures! It is a full time job. I've just mopped the kitchen floor with a little clorox because of something he tracked in last night. Full time job is right!!! We really need more room and a fenced in yard! Keeper always looks sweet and clean too.

  9. Eli is in charge! Ear mites are horrid, I find minreal oil discouraged them when I raised rabbits:)

  12. Ice storms are bad. Here they break our trees and power lines and make driving impossible. Fortunately they w\are not a common occurrence.
Smokey has found a very good home, that's for sure. Smokey and Eli are quite pair.

I know what you mean about continually cooking, it feels like a conveyor belt at times.

    1. A conveyor belt! That's so funny. My sister says it looks like a feeding frenzy around her kitchen most of the time. :)
