My New Year's Eve

Let me just say this about the weather...we have had two days without rain. That's right, two! It's amazing how the sun affects my mood. As soon as Poppy was off to work yesterday, I cleaned house! Beside the usual straightening up and putting everything away, I mopped the kitchen floor, cleaned the bathrooms, cleaned out the laundry room/pantry (so the repair man could work on my screaming dryer), even got all the throw rugs in the house washed and dried.

By 11:00 a.m. I was in the yard raking and dragging off sheet loads of leaves...four straight hours, raking leaves! When Poppy pulled into the driveway I was dead tired and "ill as a hornet". Something else I inherited from my dear sweet mama. :) The longer and harder I work, the madder I get. Knowing supper still had to be put on the table and knowing too that Poppy would not even notice all of my hard work. And this is New Year's Eve, for goodness sake!

How things have changed over the years. This is Poppy and me on a New Year's Eve back in the early 1980's. We were leaving for the Sheraton Hotel and a night of dancing...

The Sheraton had the big band music playing that night. It was one of my favorite dates with Poppy. I was crazy about his dark curly back in those days...

Have to admit that my hair was a little better back then too...

How fast those years have past. One of my New Year's resolutions is to appreciate each day. I've just got to. The days are going by way too fast. Of course, my other resolutions are to eat healthy and exercise more.

Better say goodnight. Hope to be back tomorrow.

Somebody got caught napping in Poppy's favorite chair...

Love,
Henny

  1. It's fun looking back on the old photos but it does make you realize how fast time passes. The ying and the yang. We had a quiet New Year's Eve, too. Not like the old days. Would you look at that little munchkin taking over dad's chair. :)))

  5. We all had 'the hair' back in those days, yours is absolutely gorgeous!
New Year's Eve was always a fun night out, with maybe a little too much to eat and drink, nowadays we like to stay home and nest...lol.
Just look at Smokey enjoying Poppy's chair, he's so sweet.
Happy New Year to you and yours Henny, wishing you good health, peace and contentment, and a couple of donkeys :)

    1. Isn't that the truth. Now that long hair, parted in the middle and hanging straight, makes me look a lot like a witch! :) "Staying home and nesting". I like that. Thank you for your wish for the new year...and remembering the donkeys. :)

  6. Oh look at your gorgeous hair. I would have so envied you back then. I tried to grow my hair long and it got a few inches past my shoulders and would go no further. I was sooooo disappointed! Did you get Poppy that cookbook:)?

  9. What wonderful pictures of you both. You are a lovely couple. Takes me back to the 70's and my 20's. Good times, but these days are better. Sort of a 'come grow old with me, the best is yet to be' life.

  10. I can't believe how much you got done before 11:00 A.M.!

Thirty-five years certainly does change things-----love all that hair! It keeps coming as a shock to me when something is mentioned as happening happening a long time ago (in the late 70's/early 80's). And I think "Whaddah mean a long time ago?" and then start counting out exactly how many years ago that actually was and am amazed at the number.

Smokey looks as though he has definitely claimed that chair as HIS and you guys will just have to find other accommodations. Cats really know how to make themselves at home and soon have the upper hand.

Happy New Year and don't work too hard!

    1. Oh Victoria, it shocks me too. What shocks me too is the 1990's that seem like yesterday and yet my granddaughters were born in 1998 and will turn 17 years old this year! Time flies! Happy New Year to you too! :)

  13. It's fun seeing the photos of your former selves. We all had more hair back then!
That was a whole lot of work that you got done, before and after 11:00!!
I guess we all need to learn that work we do we must do to please ourselves, since no one else is going to care or notice. It's kind of funny that you get mad, but it might be easier on you to just let it go.
As to New Years Eve, by the time we get "old" we have figured out that it's no big deal. and most of us are happier that way.
