A bunch of this and that!

First of all, tell me. Can anybody spot a kitty cat in this picture? :)

I'm inside for a break from raking leaves and moving junk out of the front yard. Why does everything in the yard look like junk this time of the year?

Speaking of junk, that old well house still needs to be carried away. It is too heavy for me. Anyhow all the leaves are out of the front yard...better look quick before the wind blows in another load...

and all those leaves have been hauled up to the garden. Now I know how a mule feels. The garden is all covered and warm and tucked in for the winter...

and here sits those same peach trees that were supposed to be put in the ground as soon as fall got here...

I just can't get it all done!

Eli rolled in the leaves in the garden as I raked and hauled sheet loads in to be emptied. Then I had to fight with him to get my sheet back.

Look who climbed into Bun Bun's little house and made himself at home...

He seemed to want to stay and visit with Bun Bun but I was a little worried. Do kitties and bunnies get along?

Poppy says he wishes everybody was as glad to see him come home as Eli is...

And before getting back to work, I have another little pot story. This cute granite-ware pot jumped out at me in the thrift store last week so I bought it...

Now I know better than anybody, just how dangerous I am with a pot of anything left on the stove. You can read a couple of my older posts,(see "burying pots").  This little pot seemed just right for simmering potpourri. That's a scary thought, knowing how quickly I forget and walk off with a pot on a hot burner. But I'm thinking, the scent of cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg drifting through the house would be a constant reminder that, "THERE'S A POT ON THE STOVE"! However, as Elmer Fudd would say, I must be ve-ww-wy, ve-ww-wy careful simmering Potpourri here at Christmas time!

Thank you if you've managed to stay this long. Hope to be back soon...and catch up with my reading.

Love,
Henny

  1. I was on the back patio Saturday with the husband potting a plant. What's that noise? Bill said someone's smoke alarm is going off. Ooooppps!
I ran around the house as fast as my porky thighs would go to get into the garage, which is what we had come out of so all doors were locked. My turkey neck and giblets were black in the saucepan and all the alarms in the house were blaring. We used to call the smoke alarm the dinner bell when I was younger and cooked more.

    1. I know it's not funny but I could not help but laugh about your turkey neck and giblets. Just thinking of all the time I've had to run just like you did, in a panic, thinking will I get there in time!! Your feet just won't go fast enough! Thank you for telling me. This must happen to a lot of us busy women. :) The dinner bell is the perfect name!

  2. Dear Henny,
I love hearing about your daily life on your little farm. I appreciate your love for your animals so very much! Also, you seem to enjoy communicating with your bloggy friends. Recently, a bloggy friend that I have followed for probably close to 8 years just for no apparent reason took her blog sight off of the Internet. No explanation. No way to reach her. Her bloggy friends were there for her always. Offering prayer if she needed it. I feel what she has done is so inconsiderate and hurtful. I guess what I'm saying is you are so sweet to your followers. I know at times everyone's life gets busy and they don't have the time to respond to every comment. But just letting people know that is all that's needed. People are understanding. I do so love your blog. You are such a caring loving person!

    1. Darlene, thank you. I do appreciate what you've said. I agree. After following her blog for that long you would feel like she was a dear friend.Gosh, it would take a while to get over wondering what could have happened. I honestly do love the friends I've met through this blog. My daughters and my husband probably get tired of hearing me talk about my blogging friends, like I know you all personally. But, I do feel like I know you! :)

  3. We racked leaves on Saturday! The biggest bulk of them are out of the front yard but the back yard is still pretty thick. I got blisters in between the thumbs and pointer finger. I loved you idea of the cedar and I went out and cut some today. Love you !

  4. Your yard looks great and hopefully so snow will cover it before the leaves blow back. Such cute photos of your animals. I can't believe how tall Eli has gotten!

    1. It seems like several! Actually I didn't start until November. Some of the oak trees hold their leaves until March. That's what drives me crazy! :)

  8. Hope you turned the burner off. They used to make those little pots above a candle for that smelly stuff...check the thrift store! Our cats used to tolerate the rabbits...but I wouldn't trust them with baby bunnies. Eli looks like a bib ole bear! I used to use a sheet also to transport leaves...it is a big job especially with your big leaves. One leaf at a time:)

    1. I used to have one of those little candle pots and donated it during one of my cleaning out moods. I have been known to pick up those big leaves by hand. :)

  10. Eli's fur is gorgeous! I'd like to snuggle up with him:)
We have had an extra windy Fall, so a lot of the leaves blew away, we had less to rake up this year.
I think you can simmer the potpourri in a crockpot as well. There are some real small crockpots that would be perfect. Check the thrift store next you are there:)

    1. Wonder why the leaves blow into our yard and not out! :) A small crockpot is what I need. That would be safer. I need to look in the thrift stores. Thank you.

  13. Had to comment on Eli becoming such a big white bear! It really is a lovely thing to have animals to greet you, bless their furry souls.
So glad you remembered to turn off your Potpourri, maybe I will look for my mini crock pot and use it for fragrance, since I havent ever used it for anything else!
All the best to you and the household,
    Pam

  14. Had to laugh at your thought of everything in the yard looking like junk this time of year! It's so true. Something that doesn't bother you at all the rest of the year, suddenly, once the leaves fall looks like an eyesore! We went to our county landfill twice over the weekend, carting off debris and when I came home I found more hiding in plain sight. A job never done.

    1. Oh, that sounds just like me! I drug off to old heavy wooden flower boxes yesterday. Both fell apart as I was moving them!
