Raking and Recipes

You are not going to believe this, but all has been quiet here on Henny Penny Lane for a few day! Three days now without rain. Imagine that! We've had sunshine too, and no more trees falling.

Friday I raked leaves for four straight hours. On Saturday, I raked leaves for three hours.  Today we have wind! What is it about raking leaves that makes the wind blow? I was trying to get a picture of the Flag blowing in the wind. What a beautiful day this has been!

Would you just look at Smokey. Is he not the cutest thing?

It's always good to see green again after all this brown. I at least made a dent in the leaves.

Just a word about our Thanksgiving. It was a nice day, but quiet. We missed having Lynn and Andee and their families.

Poppy waiting for dinner.. He is such a big help in the kitchen... :)

I also have two recipes to share...

Sweet Potato Casserole:

3 cups cooked, mashed sweet potatoes
  1 cup evaporated milk
  1 cup sugar
  1 stick butter, melted
  2 eggs, beaten
  2 tsp. vanilla
Beat, pour into 2 quart greased dish.

  Topping:
  1 cup brown sugar
  1/4 cup butter
  1/3 cup flour
  1/2 cup chopped pecans
Mix until crumbly. Spread over potato mixture. Bake 30 to 40 min. 350

-----------------------------------------------------

Broccoli Casserole:

Cook (2) 10 oz. packages frozen chopped
    broccoli, drain
Add 1/2 stick butter & 8 oz. Velveeta cheese
Mix well and pour into baking dish.

  Topping:

Melt 1/2 stick butter. Add 1/2 pack Ritz
crackers, crushed. Mix well and spread
over broccoli. Bake 20 min. 350

Both casseroles are really good. Too good!

Thank you for stopping by. Tootles! :)

Love,
Henny

  2. Your recipes sound yum yum! We use the mower and have a bagger attached then throw in compost many times. Neither one of us could rake anymore lol. Love the pictures!

  5. You've worked very hard on those leaves, and made such a difference !
The mister has a leaf bagger that pulls behind the mower, it's worth the investment.
Love that sweet kitty, so precious.
Thank you for sharing the recipes, two of my favorite side-dishes.

  6. Smokey is growing so quickly!
I figure that the snow will hide our leaves soon enough.

  8. I need to rake the lawn again after the last wind storm, but it is still covered with frozen snow.

  9. You are just raking leaves, and we are on to shoveling snow! It's always something needing to be moved elsewhere, isn't it. Smokey is a beauty. I'm glad he found his way into your hearts.

  10. So good to hear that things have been quiet around there after all the upsets of late. I envy you the leaf raking. For the past couple of weeks my back has been bothering me so no leaf raking for me. It makes me crazy with all that work out there looking back at me. Some of it is finished but a good bit, as well as more mulching, awaits me when my back improves. I guess that can wait although getting the lawn mower started to shred the leaves when it gets really cold is often a no go since the oil gets thick and doesn't move too readily. I guess I could just heat up the motor with a blow torch-----oh no maybe not----sounds like a recipe for disaster!

Perhaps I should just try your broccoli recipe instead. It sounds both fire proof and delicious.
