All the guineas survived!

As they say around here," if it ain't one thing, it's another"! As soon as the rain let up enough yesterday, I got a bucket of feed and went out to check on the animals. Eli went inside the goat's lot. I was only going to be a minute. Was I ever wrong! I could not believe my eyes. A tall pine tree had fallen straight through the middle of the guinea's pen...

All the babies were wet and cold, some had gotten out. Good grief! After catching those on the outside, I searched around and found another tarp in the shop. Even with the wind fighting me, I managed to throw the tarp across one corner of the crushed pen. I then tied it to the fence in several places. I'm telling you what, when I saw this tangled mess I did not know what to do first...what with the rain and the wind!

Hopefully, they can live in this corner until I get the other pen ready. I am surprised that the mother guinea and all the babies survived. Even the heat lamp is still burning in the corner.

But wait, that's not all. All this time taking care of the guineas, Eli had been running and playing in the mud and rain! Oh my gosh!

Don't know why I thought he deserved a treat. Maybe for not getting any dirtier than he did. :(  Pardon my muddy sleeve and arm and cold red fingers.

For Eli, it was all fun and games. I was exhausted!!!

All I could do was bring out a bucket of warm soapy water and a rag, then put
his blankets in the washer.

Hope you all had a happy Thanksgiving  day. I should be posting about Thanksgiving food and stuff but will try to do that tomorrow. Just had to share the story about the tree falling.

Thank you for visiting!

Love,
Henny

  1. I am glad that the guineas are all alright. I know how aggravating it is when a tree falls and messes things up. I hope that you had a great Thanksgiving after everything settled down. I have eaten way to much.
    Love you!

  4. What a surprise, a tree in the guinea's house. So glad they are okay. Maybe you should have left Eli out in the rain a little longer to get the mud off. I hope your Thanksgiving was more peaceful than yesterday.

  7. So glad no one was hurt! Somedays there are advantages to having a black dog...Chance has a white belly :)

    1. Chance looks too smart and well behaved to tear loose in the mud and rain.:) Maybe Eli will calm down more as he gets older.

  8. Oh, my gosh! Cleaning Eli up would be enough of a job but hassling around with the tarp in the wind and rain really is a bit much.

You sure you're not just making this up to keep the blog interesting? :o)

Good that the guineas made it though the whole ordeal okay. And you too!

  10. Wow, thank goodness no guineas were killed in the making of this blog post! It is always something isn't it. How does it work if you confine Eli until he is dry and then just brush the dry mud off? Luna is always getting dirty here.
I wanted to say something about your old (fake) wishing well. The bottom looks like it is made out of pieces of treated landscape ties. If that is so, did you know you aren't supposed to burn it. http://www.ct.gov/deep/cwp/view.asp?a=2714&q=324870
Also, don't ever let Eli chew on a piece of treated wood, it can be deadly.

  11. No, I did not know that about burning treated wood. Thank you for telling me. I am careful about watching what the dogs chew on (we used to have Labs). Maybe I will add those pieces to my pile of scraps. I'm always building something and needing a piece of wood. :) I do appreciate you sharing information like this with me.

  12. I'm sad that the tree toppled and destroyed your pen, but ooh so grateful the guineas were not injured.
I am not accustomed to seeing Eli with a speck of dirt on that gorgeous white coat, I couldn't help but smile :)
Sending peaceful thoughts your way, after such a hectic time !

  14. Some days you just have to laugh or you would 😅 cry, no? My Keeper has looked like that so many times now. If there is a way to get dirty he will find it LOL
