The Days Fly Around...

down Henny Penny Lane where the goldenrods grow and the acorns fall...

What a beautiful, beautiful Fall season this has been, and still is. Why, the leaves have just begun to turn...

and I can't resist picking a few goldenrods, especially the tall ones that lay over in the path...

Poppy says he's never seen this many acorns on the ground, and I've never seen so many hickory nuts. With the price of groceries these days, we probably, like the squirrels, should be gathering and storing for winter.

Rarely do we have both September and October filled with cool crisp mornings, blue skies, and fall like days...it has been wonderful.

I came upon a quote that pretty much describes my feelings...

"I cannot endure to waste anything so precious as autumnal sunshine by staying in the house." - Nathaniel Hawthorne

and then there is Randall Rabbit, more sweetness to keep me out of the house and away from the computer...

We've added panels to his house to make it cozy and protect from the cold winter winds...

and using two big old flower tubs, cut a piece to make a bench. Randall likes me enough now to jump on the bench beside me...

Look, I think he has grown, don't you? This picture was taken a few minutes ago when I carried him an apple peel and kale leaf...

I would have deleted the earlier picture of Randall but have you noticed how deleting a picture will throw everything in the post out of whack? Well, it sure does.

We also added anther large roof piece to the top. I caught Randall trying to jump up on top of the cage! What a fall that could have been.
The overhang keeps him from jumping up. Well, I didn't want to over do and keep you here too long, that is if you are still here.

But I do want to show you these sky pictures. These were taken from the front porch the night before Hurricane Ian blew through here...

Thank you dear friends for looking in. I've missed you all!

Love, Henny

A Bit of Fall

We got just a sprinkle of rain, not even enough to settle the dust, before the much anticipated cold front began blowing through around 3:30 today. What a relief! The temperatures were in the mid 90s today and reached 98 degrees at Raleigh Durham Airport!

These next few days should feel a lot like fall so, I've gone crazy with fall colors, especially in the old cupboard...

Isn't it amazing what rag and bottle of Old English furniture polish will do!

a little closer look...I found the large dinner plates at Goodwill this week...

That's hickory nuts in the bowl...

Have you ever tried to crack open and eat a hickory nut? What a job! Poppy did crack one with the hammer and we both got a tiny taste.

Anyhow, fall of the year makes me want to work outside, clean up, and move things around.

Wish you could have seen the junk we hauled out from under this old shed. It hasn't been this neat and clean in years. Poppy used to park his four-wheeler here...

Hay is stored in the old freezer covered with a tarp. Nailed a strip of wood across the back of the shed to stand garden tool and my bamboo poles.

Pulled out the old wooden tool box too and filled it with kindling wood. Good for starting fires this winter.

The kindking is kinda dusty from being stored in a cardboard box for too long.

Can't go without a word about sweetie pie rabbit...

I really believe he loves the wide open space in his big ole dog lot, and the ramp up to his box...

and! I'm building a little garden room just outside his pen. There was a mess of old cinder blocks stacked there so I've just re-arranged them a bit...
not exactly pretty yet but I've only just begun...

There is really nothing pretty about a cinder block so I need to come up with some pretty ideas. Any suggestions??

Well, The TV just cut off. Poppy must be headed this way so I will stop here. This is probably way too much anyhow.

Oh, Smokey wants to say goodnight...

Thanks for looking!

A birthday gift

Gosh, here it is about one hour before bedtime and I'm starting a post.

Thought I would hurry though before my birthday ends and show you something...

Oh wait! He went behind that old pot...Can you guess what it is?

Meet Randall Rabbit...

He is a four month old, eight pound Flemish Giant rabbit.

Poppy was dead set against getting me another rabbit and my heart ached. I have missed my rabbits so much.

So, all this started one day at line dancing class when my friend Carla asked, "if I get you a birthday present, can you keep it"? "Is it alive", I asked her. We laughed. I knew she meant a rabbit. "We will go bunny shopping", she said.

Anyhow, I started looking on Craiglist at bunnies for sale, and also began fixing up the dirty old rabbit lot...and all the while dropping hints to Poppy.

Oh friends, look at this ad from Craigslist...this is now my bunny's papa. Have you ever seen anything so cute?

I had the found the perfect bunny! But, these rabbits were in Havelock NC near the coast, a three hour drive away.

So here's how it all turned out...Poppy threw me a $100.00 bill and said Happy Birthday. I thanked Carla for getting the ball rolling. I left here at 8:00 Monday morning and drove through the country to my daughter Andee's house. From there, Andee drove. She got on Hwy. 70 near her house and drove us straight to Havelock.  Got back to Louisburg around 3:30. Had been in the car for 7 hours.

Carla, stopped by yesterday to see the new rabbit...and loved him! We may be going back to to get Carla a bunny.

He is a big sweet boy. I've Googled and read all about them. They are docile, very gentle and are often referred to as gentle giants.

I'm very happy. Had a great birthday. Andee and Todd gave me a big beautiful Mum and a couple of gift cards. The four of us went out to eat together as last Wednesday was Andee's birthday.

Well, I am bound and determined to publish this before bedtime, even though it is certainly not the best written post I've ever done.

Thank you, if you're still here.

Love, Henny

Why it's hard...

getting from room to room in our house. Here's going from the living room down the hall to the bedrooms...

so you get what you need and turn around to go back...

I'm just hoping, as I step between feet and legs and over heads, that one of them don't jump up, throwing me head long into living room.

and try getting up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom...

and feel your way across this length of dog train.

Anyhow, going from the dining room into the living room, the only way through unless you go out the front door, around the house, and come in the back door...

and just try sitting in one of the living room chairs...

oh wait! I left out the teeny tiny sewing room...

and a few more feet to step over...

Smokey says he feels a little safer in a corner...

or way up high on the bed...

Poppy is always asking, why can't you dogs find some place to lay besides in a doorway?

How bout here? Is this better?

Oh, but it is all so worth it...like living with two big teddy bears and we wouldn't have it any other way.

I first posted about my ball of string way back in 2013...

and here it is today...

Dumb me for not measuring the ball so I could tell you just how much it has grown...but that's me! This is every string of every, well almost,  off every bag of animal feed we've open since 1989. Anyhow, it's so big I can hardly hold it in one hand and wrap another string with the other hand. Very interesting stuff, I'm sure. :)

Okay, I must move on. Have Line Dancing class at 2:00 today at the Senior Center. I haven't mentioned it to anyone...but friends, it's the most fun thing I've done in 30 year!

Sure appreciate your visiting!

Mrs. Orb Weaver

Hey dear friends,

What a different gardening season this has been. A few flowers, well three to be exact, finally came up...

Wasn't sure what they were, but turns out this striking orange bloom is the mexican sunflower.

The butterflies just love them and so do I. Finally! Fowers in my garden!

Grass had almost taken over the garden so I've been clearing out. Flowers and butterflies have a way of lifting my spirits...

Yep, wheelbarrow after wheelbarrow load hauled out. Even pulled up the green bean vines and the wattle fence, but still getting plenty of peppers. These are the Pablano...

Oh, and a special little visitor showed up in my garden...

Mrs. Orb Weaver, or the black and yellow garden spider. She didn't visit at all last summer.

Oh well, soon all the gardening will be done and we will be going into fall, then winter, just around the corner. Winter's good.

I came across this playhouse picture and thought, oh wow! How different it looks now.

and this is now...

What a difference! There is lots about winter I love. We need the winter months. Just thought it would be fun to post both pictures. But for the record...Put me down for summer. :)

Well, now that I've talked your ears off, I will say goodbye...oh, but do want to close with pictures of the succulents.

Remember the little $9.00 bag of cutting I ordered from Ebay a few months ago?

Thanks for looking!
