Hello Dear friends...

You know what? As usual lately, I was about ready to end my blog but checked in and saw all the comments from all my best friends and even noticed a new follower. How could I say goodbye! You make me happy! Thank you!

Saturday was an extra special day. Got to see both my daughters...

Andee was home from West Virginia so the three of us met in Wake Forest. Guess you know that's Andee on the left and Lynn on the right.

We don't get to see enough of each other and when we are together the days go by way too fast.

In other news, I've been wanting to make something new and different to sell at craft shows and the farmer's market. What do you think about Boho Bags??

Most fun is picking colors for the lining.

Not sure Bonnets, Aprons, and Boho Bags go together. :) Actually, this is my favorite type bag to carry...lightweight and will stay put on your shoulder. Have made only three so far.

Speaking of bags, I was in the check-out line at Walmart. When I reached in my bag to get my checkbook, the man in line behind me said, "you're the only woman I've seen who carries a lightweight pocketbook. My wife's pocketbook is so big and heavy, she could kill someone with it".  Actually, the bag I carry is a little smaller than these I'm making. Would love to find a pattern like mine.

Anyhow, it's August! Not my favorite month for sure. It was 98 hot and sticky degrees here today. No fun being outside. I've always preached, once the Fourth of July is past, also is passed the fun of spring and summer, and I start looking forward to fall.

Miss Ellie says it feels good to just stay inside on the raggedy old, pieced together, couch...

Ellie seems to feel good again, almost back to her old self. It has taken some time to get her medications just right with this Addison's Disease. We have to go in for bloodwork every few weeks. She is such a sweetie pie.

Eli appreciates being inside too on these hot humid days...

in his very own chair, I might add :( One of these days we may get a new living room suite. He's our big boy...our guard dog.

Are you feeding the hummingbirds this summer?

We have two feeders up, one at the kitchen window and one at a living room window. It is amazing how much sugar water these tiny birds drink. I boil sugar water every single day and fill both feeders every single day! It's almost a full time job but worth the trouble. :)

Started this post last night...so I will end here this morning. Today is line dancing day...Yay!!

Someone had asked if I ever got my cowboy boots from Amazon...well, yes, but they didn't fit just right so I returned them. I did buy myself a pair, locally, and danced in them before the summer got so hot. Will take some dancing pictures soon. :)

Love, Henny

Get well soon, Diane

  1. Why not take your bag apart and make a pattern from it? You can then make yourself many more and ones to sell too:)

    1. Thank you Mary. I've looked at my bag and still wondering if I would be able to put one together from a pattern I made. I might give it a try. :)

  3. I did ask about the boots Henny so am glad to hear how they went. My hummers are fighting over the feeder and the rose of Sharons. I like the bags, but slightly smaller would suit my needs. Good idea for you to sell. Broke my hand so typing is noyt easy. Lynn and Precious

  4. I love seeing pics of your daughters. I always look and try to see which one resembles you more. I can never decide.
I love those bags you're making now. I can imagine the fun choosing pretty fabrics. You have a good eye for that.
So good to know Elli is doing better and Eli is still guarding your home :)

Good to see your big furry friends again. Such beautiful and sweet dogs!
It's hot here now too and it really cramps my style. I like to be outside, but not today.

  6. Those Boho bags should sell like hotcakes with the younger crowd. The kids that are in and out of my house all carry them. They are popular all over again, like when we were young.

    1. Thank you so much for following my blog from France! I'm so excited to have you. We do enjoy the little pond in the back yard. We had storms last night so today is supposed to be 10 degrees cooler than yesterday. Hope you get some relief from the heat soon.

  9. I carried a bag just like these when I was a teenager...I loved them but I had to practically dump everything out just to find one thing. Ah, memories! I am down to two hummers and I am not too sure they are the same ones every day...I didn't ever get more than six this year, and that was disappointing. I hope you are enjoying the cooler day today, it sure is nice.

Andee looks a lot like you. Such a good looking bunch!
I love the boho bags. I bet they'll sell well.

  11. I agree. Just stop in whenever. The bags are very pretty and I'm all for anything that doesn't slide off.
Haven't fed hummers as I have trouble with wasps and wouldn't want to encourage them any more.
Glad you all are well. Be safe and God bless.

  18. Sweet friend, I'm about to scold you! Don't you dare quit blogging! Oh my word, what would we do without our Henny Penny Lane to give us a touch of country grace? I have had those same thoughts about not blogging but I can't imagine not seeing your posts whether I blog or not!

Those two big babies of yours are so fluffy! How in the world do you keep them so clean? And your daughters are beautiful and they do take after their mother just a bit, don't they!

I love boho bags but my shoulders won't let me carry any king of bag that hangs on them. I used to use them all the time.

    Grace & Peace,
    Pam

    1. Hey Willie. I didn't realize your daughter lived so far away from you. That is quite a drive. Well, I guess these bags I'm making are called Boho bags. That's what I Googled when searching for a pattern. I love the Boho style clothing...all of it. If only I were younger! :) We had a big rain last night and it was much needed. Appreciate your comment. I need to make a pink bag before going to the market to sell.

I'm not crazy about August either-but I do love the fall. So nice for you to see your beautiful daughters. Take care!

  23. NO, don't quite blogging! So many people have been leaving that I am afraid they could shut the whole thing down. Plus, look how many followers you have! I love your Bohos! they are beautiful and perfect. Ellie is so pretty. I had no idea that animals can get Addison's Disease. How on earth did you get these up-close shots of the Hummers! Seems like they are never still.

  25. Hello, Henny Penny! I agree about the heat after July 4th. I'm doing better this August than last, as far as coping with the heat. I'm learning how to do paper folding and enjoying myself quite a bit, staying inside. I go out to do chickens early in the AM, and then I try to remain in AC the rest of the day! I make no apologies! I LOVE your new purses so much. I've had a couple like that, and they are super cute.

I love hummingbirds and they sure do tisk with each other..guess they are greedy but so beautiful. lol :0) Keep on dancin'... :0)

  30. Good morning Henny, On the bandwagon with the rest of your crew - don't give up your blog, just do it when you can and no pressure. Ok? Oh look at Andee and Lynn, Andee is your literal spitting image! They look happy to be with their mama! The doggos have such lush fur, they will certainly be staying in until the end of summer, its so dang hot! Glad to know that Ellie has done so much better. Finally, put those dancing shoes on and show us a dance outfit now and again. I am down for a boho bag when you get ready for orders. Love You Terry

  32. It is good to catch up with you. We do feed the hummers here. In fact, they had some friends in today — a couple anoles who claim the front porch and any bugs that land on the hummingbird feeder! They seem to coexist quite well with the birds. Glad to hear that Ellie is feeling good again. Can’t imagine being a hairy dog in the summer we have had this year. Hard enough to stay cool as a human. Be well, Henny, and have fun!

I love your handmade purses and the fabric you chose for them is lovely! I have only had a couple of hummingbirds this year.......one is so very tiny! Your doggies have the right idea to stay inside where it is comfy. Have pleasant days ahead!

  35. Hi, Henny Penny! Please don’t end your blog, I visit often and really enjoy it. I understand though, I neglect mine terribly but always go back to it. I have recently had a Facebook debacle and was very glad my blog was here, it was like a safe place! So, just know that I enjoy reading what you have to say and look forward to my visits.

  36. I have read the above posts a couple times...trying to go back through and see what I have missed. My time just seems to slip away from me. I like those boho bags, and have been thinking of making one. I like a light weight bag...but unlike you, I have way too much in mine when I carry it. Mostly I just go with billfold and keys and pocket knife in my pockets cause carrying a purse messes with my neck. And I so love purses...I always have.
