I apologize...

I really do, for not replying to your nice comments on my last post. Lately, my posts have been few and far between and hardly worth reading. So, I'm giving myself one more chance...either blog with your heart into it or say goodbye.

and I don't want to say goodbye. You've all been so kind to me and my silly blog, mistakes and all...best friends I've ever had, and I mean that, so it would be hard to say goodbye. I would miss you...

like Eli and Ellie miss us when we're away...

all I said was, "it's time for Dan"

Would you believe, I haven't raked up the first leaf! The fallen leave are so so pretty...

but I know the longer I wait, the deeper the leaves.

It was around this same time in October 1989 that I sat on these very steps, dreaming about moving into the cabin. The steps were newly built then.  Mama used to say, "Melba, please don't go out there by yourself".

The cabin was in the woods, no other homes around. I was off work on Saturdays so would come out and help finish staining inside. But that Saturday in October was the most beautiful one ever, with the leaves falling and the sun shining through the trees, warming those back steps. Didn't get much staining done that day.

Speaking of getting things done! How long has it been now since I climbed the ladder and washed that hard to reach bottle collection...three, four years? Look at the dust...

I know, I should be ashamed of myself for showing this, and I am!

It took me three day, climbing up and down that tall wooden ladder, carrying two bottle at the time, washing them in hot soapy water, rinsing, drying, and putting them back. Plus, the shelf and wall had to be washed.

Poppy gets out of all this work by saying, "I like the dust and cobwebs. That makes them look old". Well, Henny likes them sparkling clean and shiny...

What a job! Just got to show off my hard work...

Clean! from one end to the other. But, that shelf continues on, into the kitchen and the antique canning jar collection. I'm bound and determined to finish up before the holidays.

Thank you for stopping by, and for putting up with me. Planning on being back here real soon!

Love, Henny

  2. Oh Henny it's always so fun to hear from you....please stay around! Your place is sure pretty with all the leaves falling on the ground and steps. A sunny day has to be spectacular this Fall! Wow...what a job cleaning all those bottles. I can't imagine climbing up a tall ladder and back down to clean bottles. You are ambitious! They sure do sparkle now though! Hang in there friend....your posts are well worth reading and enjoying and we all do enjoy them. God bless you and Poppy! Love, Diane

  5. I love seeing all of your collections so shiny and bright. In between washings, I use a Swiffer duster it makes the glass tolerable to look at.
Love those beautiful doggies, how on earth are you able to keep them so white and fluffy.
Please don't go Jenny, I love your little blog.

I have a bottle collection (much smaller than yours) on a shelf in my bathroom. I just noticed today how dusty they are and thought I better get to washing them. I don't even have the excuse that they are high up.
Yours looks so nice, all cleaned up!

  8. Taking all those bottles down and then putting them back after you wash them is a lot of work!! I need to take all my little lit-up houses down from three high shelves and wash away at least 6 years of dust and cob webs. Lucky for me I won't have to do the up and down the ladder because youngest son has said he'll do it.
Sometimes it is hard to find time to blog or even what to blog about. I don't get out much so I count on blog friends
( like you, Henny) to keep me from feeling cut off from the world. So don't give up. Please.

  9. What a wonderful collection, and arranged so beautifully. I can’t imagine your lovely home without them. I don’t rake leaves. I chop them up with the lawn mower and let Mother Nature take care of the rest. Hilltop Post

Its hard to believe that you built and lived in your cabin for so long, times flies doesn't it? Your big white dogs are so wonderfully patient, they love you with all their hearts! 18. That's an impressive bottle collection, HP! What a lot of work to get it clean. I think we all have those high spots in our homes that get dusted rarely :) I know I do.
It's wonderful to remember years ago, and the feelings we had when we were starting something new, like your porch steps and your new cabin. Those perfect fall days! I took my grandbabies outside today to walk in the leaves and gather fresh fallen pecans. It was magical.
Keep blogging! Just because you do it less often doesn't mean it is less meaningful to your friends here!

That's a huge bottle collection. I would have waited four years too. They look beautiful sparkling in the light.

  20. Henny, I also love the looks of all the Fall leaves on the ground. And pics of Eli and Ellie... (and Randall Rabbit)! And I have to sort of agree with your hubby that some things don't look bad dusty... like old books. But it does feel good when everything is bright and shiny.

  21. Wow, you have a lot of bottles to keep shiny! They do look nice … for a while anyway … when they are all sparkly. I can just picture the 1989 Henny resting on those steps and dreaming of the day when the cabin is completed and all the wonderful times you and Dan enjoy. Your home on Henny Penny Lane is a very special place!

  22. It's good to see you! That's the problem with collections, they get dusty, and doing something about it is hard work, no fun.
I have a suggestion for the up and down the ladder. You must have a large basket with a good handle, the kind you can hold in one hand. Use that for your bottles and make fewer trips up and down the ladder. That's what I do when I have to move my pottery collection to an upstairs closet to make room for my Santa collection.

  29. Oh, no don't stop! Intermittent is much better than none for sure. Once the fall turns too cold to want to be out doing stuff in the yard you will have heaps of time to just blog and blog and blog.

I'm so glad too see your dusty bottles-----makes me feel not so bad about the dusty teapots sitting on the living room shelves. They have layers of dust on them too. Your shiny ones look beautiful and I know how good that makes you feel to just stand and look up at them. One day I will have all these leaves and pine needles raked and I can be industrious just like you.
