A little fall cleaning

Would you believe I finally got around to cleaning the front porch and putting out a little fall decor...
Something I've been talking about doing for weeks now but just couldn't get started.

so, beginning with the bottom of the old cupboard...
I pulled out all the canning jars and washed them. An old plastic tablecloth cut in half was perfect for lining the shelves.

It was Poppy with the brilliant idea this time. :) He said, "Why don't you just put the jars in your pink wheelbarrow and clean them with the hose. It's not like you're washing them to can in right away". So I did.

Then moved a couple of chairs around in the living room and bed room and decided to move this one out...
Oh my gosh, having this rocking chair on the front porch is wonderful! I just might sit more!

Okay, Poppy has his own chair and so does Eli. This needs to be labeled "Henny's"!

Had to move all the rusty items from off the table, you know, Poppy's collection of old metal pieces dug from the dirt road. These are now in the old wash pan under the table. That wooden bird cage looks a little off balance...need to change that.

By the way...wandered out on the porch and caught Poppy rocking and dozing, in my chair!

I've had this big poster size wooden frame, made from old barn wood, for years. In fact, had listed it for sale on Craigslist.

Then the idea of framing a sunflower print for the porch popped into my head...and I love it, except for the glare...

Walking Eli and Weetie early this morning, we rescued these wild flowers. I love them growing along side the dirt road, but there were so many, some had spilled over into the dry dusty road. We need rain!

Guess that's about it. Need to get busy. Got a list of things to do before Poppy gets home at 1:00. The fish truck is coming to Spring Hope this afternoon and we have ordered 50 baby catfish for the pond.

Hope to be back soon.

Love,
Henny
Tried once more to get a picture of the sunflower and the bee, without the glare...

  1. Hi Henny- Certainly like what you've done there- love the Flowers on the Porch. Some decades ago we use to go on a farm stay down the South Coast -near 'Milton'...Anne (who owned the mud brick Dairy cottage) would always put out Wild Flowers in vases for us to enjoy throughout the cottage before our arrival for our weekly stay- it was all a very nice homely touch - and just a good 'country' feel about it. Best Wishes. KEV.

    1. Thank you Faith. Wish you really could sit with me for spell. I know the yellow flowers are black-eyed Susans, the purple ones I need to look up.

  4. Yes!! A rocking chair on the porch. We used to have one but switched it out for two smaller rocking bistro chairs. Hard to describe them but I fell in love with them a couple of years ago. In the winter I have brought them in and used them in the living room until the holidays are over. We always need more seating. I love your sunflower picture in the frame.

  5. ooooO! That's all amazing..You've certainly been busy
Henny..And..Rocking chairs..HeHe! What is it with rocking
chairs..everyone wants to sit in them..! I had one some
years ago now..Basically! It wore out..! :). It used to
sit in the dinning room..had to keep moving it about, as
people sitting in it, back and forth..it put creases in the
carpet..best, as you have, is on a wooden floor!
Actually saw one for sale, couple weeks ago up the charity
    shop..£25..($32)..But decided against it..! :).

Just the one thing..you must have some very 'TALL' friends,
those chairs are a bit high off the ground, HeHe! People
    with extra long legs..
"Man sits on mountain, with legs dangling in ocean"~~~Longfellow!

Why does a milking stool only have 3 legs?
Because the cow has the udder one..

I bought my mother in law a chair for her 50th birthday,
but my wife won't let me plug it in..

Why did the old woman put roller skates on her rocking chair?
Because she wanted to rock and roll..

Oh! Love to see a pic of the Catfish..Back in my teens, l used
to keep and show Catfish..But! That's another story..! :o).

    1. Oh Willie, I just knew a rocking chair would bring lots of funny jokes. :) Thank you! I had to look back for the 'high chairs' you mentioned. Forgot about those hanging on the wall. That is so funny. We have a teeny tiny porch. Eli is already complaining about the rocking chair taking up some of his front porch sleeping space. I will take the camera when we go pick up the catfish.

  6. I like that big print of the sunflower. Makes me want to paint it! Your porch looks great, and that was a clever idea of Poppy's with the wheelbarrow. I like the checkered tablecloth liner too. I haven't started doing that kind of porch cleaning yet -- it's still too hot :( But soon! I like "sweater weather."

    1. Hey MK. Oh, I bet you could paint a wonderful big sunflower. When you do, please post it. I though that I would roast, out cleaning off the porch. It is still so hot and humid. Guess you've heard we have a little cooler weather coming in this week. Can's wait!!

  7. Henny, as always I am in all of the things that you accomplish in a short time! I really love how your grape vines are taking off, I wish I had half of your energy to get my going. They are more stick than vine. Also, I think the rocker is a nice addition to the porch. Hope you get to rock in it! Enjoy your posts so much, they make the day so much brighter... Terry

  11. Henny your porch looks perfect for Autumn, and so inviting !
I have a pie safe on my back porch, it holds flower pots and gardening tools, and cans of bug spray galore :)
Good luck with the stocking of your pond, you'll have to keep those racoons at bay :)

  12. Your porch looks so welcoming and happy. Especially with the picture and the fresh flowers. I could just see myself sitting and rocking away in your chair. I have a rocking chair on our back deck and I love to sit out there in the mornings.
Poppy sure had a great idea with washing the jars in the wheelbarrow. Much easier than taking them all inside and washing them one at a time.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  14. I love what you've done with your front porch, the way you've arranged everything!! And you even have your own chair to relax in ( is it possible?).
I hope you get rain soon. We got the entire amount of September rain this past weekend. The eaves couldn't keep up so the rain coursed over the edge of the roof. Made quite a mess but I'm not going out there to tidy up until the sun comes out.

  20. Your porch looks amazing dear Henny. I love what you have done - all of it. I have been cleaning my porch here but we are getting ready for spring so I have lots of flowery things about. Its fun - I love these two "in between seasons" - spring & autumn. I hope you get to sit in that lovely chair Henny xx

  22. Hello, great job with the fall decor. I've started in my bedroom and the front hall of the house, but I need to still switch my summer bedding and curtains to the autumnal ones. I'm being too lazy to do it. It's a lovely time of year for color and, in this part of the globe, the cooler weather is wonderful. However, where does the tradition to dress the house up for fall come from, when it's still hot in your area and your trees aren't changing color and leaves aren't falling, etc? Or did it used to get cold around September/October before global warming? Like everyone else, I like the framed sunflower poster. Many blessings to you and your family!

  24. The picture of the sunflower is very pretty! And I love your rocking chair! That's something I'm missing for my porch for sure, but one of these days I'll get one labeled "Rain ONLY"! ;) The fall decorations are pretty!

  25. I noticed your sunflower print right away as I love them so much. It looks fabulous all framed for your porch. And how sweet and inviting is that porch. I want to come and sit with a cup of tea and Smokey on my knee. :))) How fun would that be. You are certainly keeping busy, Henny. I am waiting on my green beans to be ready for harvest and then I have the job of putting the garden to bed for another year. I'm glad of it as it was such a hot and wet summer. Now we are enjoying fall-ish weather, crisp and cool. I guess I should put a post together. Take care and love to all.

  26. Absolutely everyone should have their very own chair, labeled or not! You probably need to sit down and rock now and then with all the work that you do.

I love that sunflower picture! It looks perfect there.

  36. Henny, love your sunflower picture. Looks perfect on the porch! Next time you sell, try Facebook Marketplace. It is so much faster and easier than Craigslist. We sold a lot of our stuff on Marketplace before we left Texas and have bought all kinds of furniture recently on Marketplace.
