A day at the Laundromat

What a day this has been! Poppy was back at work and I had big plans...clean the house, buy groceries, buy a hanging pot of Petunias, make rows in the garden, work in the yard some. But you know how it is...nothing goes as planned.

Eli can get up on our bed now, all by himself. He is just so cute...that was until last night, when all that cuteness turned into a big wet spot...on Poppy's side of the bed. I've spent part of the day at the laundromat. Lovely picture here. Well, I had to find something to do while waiting for that big washer to finish. Twenty quarters is what it costs to get that washer going!

I brought the bedspread home wet and hung it on the clothesline to dry. After finishing at the clothesline, I walked in the chicken house to gather the eggs just in time to see a black snake slithering away under the straw floor. Now Poppy will question why my pistol was not strapped around my waist so I could shoot the snake. Crap! Maybe I won't even mention the snake and hope it slithered on out the same door it came in!

So on with the day. Eli has had an upset tummy and has thrown up his puppy food three times.  If not better by tomorrow, the vet wants to see him. I cleaned up the last pile of vomit and noticed that it was raining. I ran to the clothesline for the bedspread.  Turned out to be a brief passing shower so I carried the bedspread back to the clothesline.

Actually the day has been fine. Just one of those days where you run your legs off but never accomplish anything! Hope every one of you had a good day!

Love,
Henny Penny

  1. I think we can all relate to that kind of day, even if we don't have a puppy to contribute to the situation. Life does that to you sometimes. I spent a good part of my day cleaning one closet and didn't even get that one finished. There was just too much STUFF in there to go through. Some of it was papers my mom had kept for years, including funeral cards, wedding invitations and graduation announcements. Of course, I had to read all of them and then try to decide what to do with them. A cousin who's been married 35 years does want her wedding invitation and high school graduation announcement. But, that's a drop in the bucket. Now I need to go find a big envelope and get them ready to mail. So much for a clean closet and summer clothes and shoes. I hope Eli is better tomorrow.

    1. Hey Peg! I think most days are like that for most women. There is always so much to get done. Nothing drives me as crazy as cleaning out closets! I get everything pulled out, don't know where to put anything, and then hate I ever started! :)

  3. Eli looks quite comfy up on the bed! Chance used to do the same thing...I think they get wet and cold and need a warm spot! I used to put old blankets on the bed that were washable. I hope the tummy troubles go away soon. Yes I have days that go an unplanned way all the time:)

    1. Eli is much better. I think the problem was that Poppy has been giving him a bite of everything from the table. I think Eli is too young for anything but his puppy chow!

  4. What a lovely quilt. My first thought on seeing sweet fuzzy Eli on you bed was the size of those big puppy paws and the dirt they must bring with them. But who cares? He's just too cute.

    1. Thank you. That was the last quilt my Mother ever made. I love using it. It is the funniest thing how Eli stays clean. Nothing sticks to his fur. Our little Weetie brings more dirt in on her feet than Eli does on his big feet. It is amazing!

  7. Isn't it amazing how we can find ourselves cleaning up after people, animals, and who knows what for most of our lives, and it really is an act of love, maybe devotion? Of course there is a limit to our selfless energies. But hopefully Eli will not find it necessary to wet on your bed again, and his tummy will improve with no treats from the table. Your yard and gardens look so pretty. Thank you for the vivid pictures of all those growing things.

  8. Sounds about like every day ;-). You may want that snake around for mouse patrol. At very least, try to re-home rather than shoot him. While creepy (I am horribly afraid!) they are so valuable.

  9. Pam, you are so right! Sometimes I wonder what life would be like without animals to care for and clean up after. And it's just about the same thing with a husband! :) Life would be pretty sad and boring. Eli is much better. No more bites from the table! I have never before been so happy to see flowers and green grass. It was a long winter! It is always good to hear from you.

  12. Hope Eli is feeling better soon. Oops, just read he is, that's good! It's so worrying when our furry pals aren't feeling right. I find it hard to actually accomplish much on days like that. A lot of fretting and going back and forth and seeming to be busy, but not much to show for it at the end of the day. Actually I think I have a lot of days like that even without a sick animal:(
