Our little herd of animals

An update on our little herd of animals here at Henny Penny Lane.  The baby Guineas are healthy and growing.  That is, except for the tiny one that refuses to grow.  Oh, it is still around.  It eats and acts like the others.  It just has not grown any...

The small Guinea's head, beak, and coloring is like that of an adult.

The chickens remember that I come out around 4:30 every day to put "Big Boy" back in the goat's lot.  I have to hurry down the steps before they all get up on the porch to greet me, with their wet dirty feet...

The ducks too know that it's time for me and the bucket of feed...

I do have a bit of bad news.  Some of you were around and helped name "Fiona Ling Ling", the little ugly duckling that appeared on our pond one morning...

He had grown into such a big pretty boy.  He was killed one night by a wild animal.  It broke my heart.

The old Muscovy couple (11 years old) are still around.

The two goats are spoiled and too fat...

The blue sky and sunshine are calling to me.  It has warmed up from the 28 degrees earlier, so I am out to work on this yard again!

Thank you for stopping by.

Love,
Henny Penny

  1. I love your animals!! I would love to have yard chickens but it is not allowed when you raise contract chickens. Take some pictures of your dogs and cats for me. We are looking for a lab puppy for a very reasonable price. Everyone we have found want way to much money for it.

    Love you, Vicki

  4. So sorry about the loss of Fiona Ling Ling - it really hurts doesn't it ?
Sadly that happened to me on more than one occasion, when I went down to put the ducks/chucks away for the night, the fox had got there before me and all that was left was a pile of feathers - I always blame myself, but if Mr Fox starts coming in broad daylight, there's not a lot you can do is there ?

    (((hugs)))

    1. Animals make me happy too. I posted a picture of the tiny guinea on the guinea message board. Some think it may be dwarf. I've been meaning to read about dwarfism (sp) in poultry.

  6. Dearest Henny: I am so sorry about FIona Ling Ling! My neighbors lost their beautiful white hen the same way - we are in the city! That little guinea is hanging there, a joy to be had as long as possible! I miss my chickens and guineas, so I can enjoy them through your blog. I don't think that I will ever have more. My neighbor's white hen was so social, it came to my house and I warned the neighbor to keep her confined in her backyard but I think a coyote got her. They are a lot of coyotes here, so everything little being is susceptible. Have a happy day - Terry

    1. Oh Terry, it just killed me when I found him. I know anytime you have chickens and ducks, etc,. things like this happen. He was just special because someone dropped him out near our pond. He was special.
