It was bound to happen!

Okay fellows, somebody needs to move over...

As Piglet, from Winnie the Pooh would say,

                  Oh dear. Oh d-d-d-d-dear, dear.

It was bound to happen. You know all the ticks and tick bites I've been talking about. Well, it started Tuesday, my aching hips and weak legs. I must have said to Poppy a dozen times while outside working, why do I feel so weak.

On Wednesday, after my usual straightening up the house and running to the grocery store, I went to work staining the new well house. By early afternoon my aches and pains had returned. The bones in my hands hurt, my lower back hurt, my ankles hurt. I had a fever, my head hurt. I was sick!

Thursday morning I was at my doctor's office at 9:00. After answering some questions and a check up, the doctor put it this way...this may be over treating, but I recommend a week on Doxycycline. That would take care of any tickborne disease.  Hummm, Eli is on three weeks of Doxycycline and he has Ehrlichiosis. The doctor said you could very well have Ehrlichiosis also.

Thank goodness for antibiotics!

Old sweetie pie is feeling better, in fact he is getting a bath and his hair trimmed as we speak. The groomer moved to a new location about five miles away. I'm sure Eli will want you to see his new look so we may have a picture to post tomorrow.

Thanks for not crossing me off yet. Take care and watch out for ticks!

Love,
Henny

  2. We have deer wandering through our yard all the time, and those deer ticks are so tiny and I'm so freckled, I have little faith that I'd ever find one if it were on me. I hope the Doxycycline kicks in soon!

    1. It's scary! My daughter has the same problem with freckles. Her arms look like they are covered in tiny ticks all the time. :)

  4. Those puppies are the best !
So very sorry to read you have been diagnosed with a possible tick-borne disease, I know first-hand that the ticks are having a bumper year already this year. I'm glad they have caught it early and treatment is underway.
I wish the ticks would stay out of our yard, pretty to look at, but a scary price to pay, if your bitten by one of those infected ticks.
Sending healing wishes your way Henny !

    1. Thank you Jo. I mean there is a bumper crop this year! I can't go outside without getting a tick on me.

  5. As far as I know, here in the Puget Sound area we are not bothered by ticks. At least I have never heard anyone complaining about them. I hope to keep it that way!

  7. Oh, No! It's bad enough to have the tick bites without disease, they're miserable. Thank God there are antibiotics that work for the diseases they spread. At least you had enough sense to go to the doctor to get help. I know a man who did not get treatment and paid a high price for 'toughing it out'. His fever went so high that he lost his hearing. If you know of anyone else with tick-borne illness, or symptoms, please keep after them until they get treatment (especially Poppy). I hope the medicine works fast and you feel better real soon. I bet Eli will feel better after his haircut.

    1. You are right about that! The bites are awful! I thought Poppy and I had become immune to tick bites, but obviously not. I didn't realize how dangerous a tick bite could be. Thank you Peg.

  8. I'm sorry you are not feeling well. I didn't know ticks could transmit illness. I didn't know we had ticks in this area until Karen posted something about them!! Feel better soon.

  9. Henny Penny, I feel for you with all the aches and pains! Your little (?) buddies are so cute taking up all the space -- I miss my departed dog every time I see your pals.

  10. Oh my, I do hope you begin feeling better soon, soon, soon. Those ticks are nothing to sneeze at. Whenever I am out where ticks might be I always spray down with something containing Deet. I don't like it and feel that it probably isn't good to spray it on your skin (and I try to keep it on just my clothes) but the possible alternative is certainly something to avoid..

    1. Thank you Vic. I use spray too and most time tuck my pant legs inside rubber boots and then spray my boots. I think ticks drop out of the trees. I often find one in my hair.

  11. Hope you are feeling better soon. Scary with the ticks. I feel like something is crawling on me all the time, yuk. I've had a rude introduction to ticks this year:(

  12. So glad you got meds quickly as that is the way to recover from tick-borne diseases. So many horror stories in Minnesota of people crippled by Lyme disease before it was known how to recognize and treat it. I hope you recover quickly and completely. Take it easy!

    1. That is scary. I was reading Far Side's comment about Lymes disease. Thank you Cynthia.

  13. Good thing you went in. I hope they caught it in time. I did two 30 days doses of antibiotics but still have residual lymes and it sucks:(

    1. Oh gosh! So you actually had Lymes disease. It must be hard to cure. Does it always show up in your blood once you've had it?

  18. I hope the meds will make you feel better. Ticks are not something to mess with- they really are dangerous disease spreaders. Be careful. Looks like you may need a trip to the furniture store soon so you and Poppy will have a place to sit!
