A little catching up

Yay! Happy 4th of July everybody!! It sure is quiet down here in the woods...no fireworks, nothing, and here it after 9:00...almost bedtime.  Guess I should be thankful...

On our morning walk with Eli and Ellie I carried the camera. Here's how the teeny tiny garden looked as we passed by...

We are getting tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplant, and peppers so far. Tomorrow, there should be enough green beans to pick and cook.  Looking forward to that.

And we did have our first bacon, lettuce, tomato sandwich...made with a juicy red tomato from the garden. I know, most folks call them BLTs. I just can't bring myself to abbreviate anything. It's strange. :)

Should have fancied up the table a little before taking the picture and I can't believe the big jar of Duke's Mayonnaise is still in the refrigerator...and no napkins along side the plates...and no bread! Eli was in a hurry.

Caught Poppy fishing...

slipped up behind him and sat down on the picnic table...just in time to see hime catch a small one...

Seems like everything has been so green and lush lately...maybe because we finally got a little rain last Friday...

Kind of a ragged looking picture. Sometimes it feels like living in the rain forest. Why I don't have houseplants! Here's looking out the bedroom window...

Anyhow, Eli and Ellie, after a long walk...

and Smokey too...

Guess I could have looked under the sewing table and got a picture of Dumperoo. He sleeps on a big red pillow there most of the time.

Well friends, it is now bedtime and still no fireworks to be heard.

Sorry I've been away so long. The days are busy...if there's any good thing about winter coming, it's the shorter days and more time at night. By the time I wash the supper dishes and close the chicken house door and dip the ice cream...why, it's 9:00!  Hope we are still friends.

Love,

Henny

These two are getting closer. Ellie is a sweetie pie for sure.

Special company for the weekend

Eli, Poppy, and Josh
Dear friends,

Has it really been five days! I don't know where time goes!

My last post was about the big water problem...hot water and steam spraying for two months under the house without us knowing! As of yesterday, we have two dehumidifiers running.  After two weeks, we'll figure out where to go from there.  Treat for mold, new insulation?? Anyhow, it's been busy around here.

We also had company for the weekend.  You may remember when Poppy's brother Joe passed away a little over a year ago.  Well, Joe had two sons, Joey and Josh. We were so happy that Josh brought his two sweet teenage daughters, Kaylie and Brooke and spent the weekend with us.

Josh, Brooke, Poppy, and Kaylie
Kaylie is 15 and Brooke is 12. Not only did these sweet girls lose their Grandpa Joe who adored them, but just a few months ago their mother passed away.

Brooke
These girls love the outdoors. Both of them hunt and fish.

Kaylie
These girls can bait their own hooks and then don't mind taking the fish off!!

Brooke and Josh

Kaylie
I hope they enjoyed being here as much as we enjoyed having them. The pond is still muddy from all the rain but it didn't keep the fish from biting. Josh carried 42 Brim and a couple of Bass home in the cooler.

Josh, Eli, Brooke, and Kaylie
Let me tell you, Eli had a blast!!! Two young girls to run and play with after months of a dull boring life with two old folks, Poppy and me. He was  simply worn out.

Brooke and Eli
Brooke looks pretty tired too

Eli and Kaylie
and so does Kaylie. A long day of fishing in the hot sun made all of us tired.

Gosh, will I ever catch up again. I need a day to just read all my favorite blogs. Thank you for visiting. Looks like we might get a thunderstorm this afternoon. Hope to be back real soon.

Love,
Henny

Catching up!

Eli continues to make us happy and keep us busy. He is crazy about his teddy bear...

This morning Poppy took a break and tried to catch that ten pound Bass he thinks may be hiding in the pond. No luck this time! He did catch six small Bass before running out of minnows. That's him across the pond...

And sitting for a spell...

Poppy continues to bait the traps every night trying to catch the predator responsible for murdering Popeye and his little family. No luck here either. Although the guilty weasel needs to be hung, we do use one of those 'hav-a-heart' animal traps. Never do I want to see any animal suffer, not even a snake.

I've had a total of three lovely flowers bloom in the yard this summer. Three! And all three were a surprise. I vaguely remember buying a pink lily bulb several years ago. Darned if it didn't take a long time coming up...

And not too far from the lily, one Gladiola. Surely I didn't buy one Gladiola bulb. Don't these come in packs of several?

Both have brightened my days lately. So next year I plan to buy lots of these bulbs and have a flower garden full of these wonderful blooms.

Oh and the third flower...remember this volunteer...

And finally, an Eggplant grew! After all these years of trying, an Eggplant grew! We ate one for supper last night and actually have more growing...

A boring post maybe but at least no more sad news, for today anyway. Thank you for visiting.

Love,
Henny
