Maybe I will do a little blog post...

not that I have anything important to say. I did look out the little kitchen window a few mornings ago and saw the prettiest blue and orange colors in the sky...

Amazing how fast the colors change. Sometimes it's hard to get the camera and catch the beauty of your first look.

Then late one afternoon recently, looking out across the cut-over, there was a rainbow...

that quickly faded away underneath stormy looking clouds...

and you probably know how afraid I am of storms. Nothing cheers me up as much as seeing a storm pass and the sun come out.

Speaking of weather...I've simply got to rake these five acres of brown leaves that cover every inch of ground...

Yep, I changed my mind about joining them. The leaves are now driving me crazy. :) That black dot you see there is Smokey!

I had been busy busy busy in the teeny tiny sewing room...

up until Saturday. Shelby and I were vendors at Santa's Christmas Bazaar in the little town of Franklinton.

I carried a sack of my silly little Santa dolls and a few other little people...

plus a few of my larger dolls, made from maple twigs. Fun stuff.  Also had lots of new calico bonnets made and ready to sell...

Certainly didn't get wealthy but it was a fun day spent with Shelby and I came home with a little pocket money, all my own. To make the day even more enjoyable, my daughter Andee stopped by and also my friends, Karen and Norm.

So I've now unpacked and stored my goods away...

here and there...the old pie safe from Cousin Pat is the perfect spot, and while I'm in the sewing room, I want to show you the sweetest long legged bunny rabbit...

found him in a thrift store, in a box, for free. He was dirty and looked at me, well, I had to bring him home.

Guess I had better get up from this computer. Got line dancing at 2:00 and an eye appointment at 3:30...plus Blogger is moving my pictures and changing the print size and that drives me crazy even more than the leaves!! :) Thank you for visiting.

Love, Henny

A Bit of Fall

We got just a sprinkle of rain, not even enough to settle the dust, before the much anticipated cold front began blowing through around 3:30 today. What a relief! The temperatures were in the mid 90s today and reached 98 degrees at Raleigh Durham Airport!

These next few days should feel a lot like fall so, I've gone crazy with fall colors, especially in the old cupboard...

Isn't it amazing what rag and bottle of Old English furniture polish will do!

a little closer look...I found the large dinner plates at Goodwill this week...

That's hickory nuts in the bowl...

Have you ever tried to crack open and eat a hickory nut? What a job! Poppy did crack one with the hammer and we both got a tiny taste.

Anyhow, fall of the year makes me want to work outside, clean up, and move things around.

Wish you could have seen the junk we hauled out from under this old shed. It hasn't been this neat and clean in years. Poppy used to park his four-wheeler here...

Hay is stored in the old freezer covered with a tarp. Nailed a strip of wood across the back of the shed to stand garden tool and my bamboo poles.

Pulled out the old wooden tool box too and filled it with kindling wood. Good for starting fires this winter.

The kindking is kinda dusty from being stored in a cardboard box for too long.

Can't go without a word about sweetie pie rabbit...

I really believe he loves the wide open space in his big ole dog lot, and the ramp up to his box...

and! I'm building a little garden room just outside his pen. There was a mess of old cinder blocks stacked there so I've just re-arranged them a bit...
not exactly pretty yet but I've only just begun...

There is really nothing pretty about a cinder block so I need to come up with some pretty ideas. Any suggestions??

Well, The TV just cut off. Poppy must be headed this way so I will stop here. This is probably way too much anyhow.

Oh, Smokey wants to say goodnight...

Thanks for looking!

Love, Henny

Christmas Angel, and Happy New Year!

Here it is New Year's Eve! Just doesn't seem possible. Look, I'm not prepared...I still have a little bit of Christmas stuff to talk about...

I was in the Safe Space thrift store a week or so before Christmas and saw the prettiest angel. I took her off a top shelf for a closer look...she was priced at $10.00...I sat her back on the shelf.

Well, the Thursday before Christmas I was back in the little thrift shop and noticed the sign on the door read, "all Christmas items 75% off". To my surprise, the angel was still there...

This time she came home with me and I paid only $2.50. Isn't she pretty?

I moved her from place to place before deciding she looked best on the table in the hallway...

Have you taken down all your Christmas decorations? We haven't! Normally, I take down and put away everything the day after Christmas but not this year. Sunday is supposed to cold and rainy. Hopefully, I will get it all done then. Looks like Eli is still waiting for Santa...

Anyhow, it's New Year's Eve out here in the woods. Poppy is watching, well, it was Gunsmoke, but now it's some old Western...probably with John Wayne or Audie Murphy. I did a little sewing tonight...almost finished two aprons but left it to do this post. We live very exciting lives out here. :)  Good grief! It's 9:34, bedtime!

Really just wanted to wish you all a HAPPY NEW YEAR! Not making any resolutions but I sure do want to post a little more often in 2022. I appreciate you, my blogging friends, so much!

I've been playing in the teeny tiny greehouse these warm December days and have a few pictures. I hope to be back soon.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Love,

Henny

This and That

Hey again dear blogging friends.

I know, I'm back way too soon. Guess I'm just needing someone to talk to.

Usually a walk through the garden, teeny tiny as it is, lifts my spirits. There's always something special inside a garden. Wait til you see what it was this morning!

So when we walked past the garden this morning, I noticed an orange colored sunflower and went back later to get a picture.

Little did I know, there would be a little sunflower face looking back at me...
 Isn't she pretty?

I'm not having much luck with peppers again this year but the sunflowers are sure spreading happiness down Henny Penny Lane.

Actually, it was these bees making the funny faces...

Such a pretty orange color, and here too...
sure glad for all the bees.

Mrs. Duck Duck and Wilder the Wabbit...we passed along the way...

-----------------------------------

Oh, seve
ral months ago, in a thrift store, I picked up this soap dish, thinking it would be perfect to hang over the old sink up at the garden...
trouble is, I never got around to finding an old sink.

So, yesterday Poppy put a screw in the side of the house over the outside faucet and hung my little soap dish.

-----------------------------------

Way back in April I started work on a handful of little clothespin dolls. You may remember...
well, it took me a while...

but here they are...

Certainly not the cutest ones I've made. With no craft shows going on now, it's hard to get interested in sewing.

Sure appreciate your visit.

Love,
Henny

PS... We got rain this afternoon! Can't tell you how thankful I am. It has been so hot and dry. On Monday it was 101 degrees here, and in the high 90's all week...miserable! and dry!

Thankful for Spring

I didn't know you could read the comments on your blog post and not publish them. I've noticed that being done lately on a couple of blogs. Such a dummy I am. I embarrass myself. Dumb, that's the very reason the look of my blog never changes. :(

anyhow...have you ever tried dying a basket? Well, we did yesterday and look how much richer and darker and prettier this basket looks...

I bought this large African Market Basket for $3.99 in a thrift store a few months ago...
I fell in love with the basket, but the pale green and purple colors looked awful in our living room, so...

I pulled out the big No. 2 tub from under the shed and brought it up to the porch...added three big buckets of hot tap water, a cup of vinegar and a full bottle of Rit Dye; dark brown.
baskets drying overnight
It was quite fun, dipping and turning the basket and watching the colors change to this...

You know friends, like most everyone else, we are trying to stay home and be content during these trying times. Sure makes you appreciate the coming of spring even more, doesn't it?

and it looks like once again the snowball bush will be absolutely beautiful...
how can one little limb hold so many big snowballs and especially after all of them are fully opened?
I'll be taking another picture when the snowballs are snow white.

and the chocolate vine (Akebia) too, smells delicious and is covered in tiny little blossoms...
that are so sweetly scented, it is almost breathtaking

and one more spring surprise...
one of the pear trees in the front yard did bloom, in spite of the weird winter weather and ...
is now covered in tiny pears. Simply can't believe it. The splotchy leaves are from a sprinkle of rain drops, just enough to splatter the pollen.

I'm sure hoping to plant a little garden this spring...but, since getting the steroid injection in my spine, for back pain, on March 25th, have suffered with severe sciatic nerve pain from the injection site on my left side, down through my foot.

On my follow up visit, the doctor suggested another MRI and another injection, which probably will not happen now because of COVID-19. Not sure I want another injection! I have stopped taking arthritis medication and put myself on Advil, 2 pills every 8 hours. Got to do something and it is helping.

Thank you for listening, again! I'll leave you with big ole sweet Smokey...
stretched out on the new coffee table, the very place Poppy said kitty cats should not be. Smokey is the most lovable cat. Hugging him almost takes my pain away.

Love,
Henny
