My Happy Room

So far so good with the frozen pond. Look who is sleeping comfortably on the bed next to the computer...

Late yesterday I looked out the bedroom window and saw two hungry ducks waddling across the frozen pond toward home. However, early this morning both were back in the same cold, shady, frozen spot across the pond. I have a sneaking suspicion that it's a young gray tom cat scaring them away.

I've been busy in the little sewing room, my happy room, working on bonnets, but I've also finished an apron and bonnet set...

It's hard to get motivated lately. February has always been a depressing month for me. Lots of times just going in the sewing room changes my mood. Old fashioned things make me happy...

These VCR movies were in a thrift shop in Henderson for five dollars...for the set! I'm watching Craigslist for a small TV/VCR for the sewing room. These are my favorite type movies. Why I've watched Jane Eyre ten times or more. Jane Eyre is a VCR movie too so I haven't been able to watch it for quite some time now. How perfect would that be...watching Jane Eyre while stitching up a bonnet.

The sewing machine sits in front of this window with a bit of a view of the front yard. There used to be a big rose bush that bloomed just outside the window...I've set out another one that hopefully will bloom this summer

and the bed in the sewing room sits by this window where Bickett enjoys the late afternoon sun...

Better finish up here. Poppy is waiting for the computer. I promised not to be here too long. Thank you for visiting. Hope to be back soon.

Love,
Henny

  1. Your aprons and bonnets are lovely :O)... I have some Murder She Wrote :O) DVD/s...I am not much a TV watcher actually but I loved that show.... loved it years ago when it was on and I love it now. I have a odd little DVD player we got free years ago. It stayed in its box for many years. LOL.. But now its in my sewing room and I have my collection of Murder She Wrote DVDs. I hope you find a VCR player for your sewing room. Simple good TV show, hard to come by these days is it not. :O)

    1. Thank you! I do have a small DVD player and only one good DVD movie, Pride and Prejudice. Most nights I listen to Bluegrass music on Direct TV while I'm sewing. You're right, the shows on TV now are not worth watching! I used to watch Murder She Wrote! :)

  2. What is in your cute little box? I like it! I am glad that you enjoy your happy room. I think you need yourself a laptop to use when poppy wants to use the computer. Oh well I love you!

    1. Sometimes I feel like I need to just move into the sewing room! Those are little bottles of different colored ink in the box. I love a fountain pen, but can't write very good with one. I love you too Vicki!

  4. I have a small TV with a VCR upstairs just incase the grands want to watch an old VCR tape! Maybe you should look for books on tape and listen to them as you sew. Your apron and bonnet are lovely! Good to see Smokey is safe for another day:)

    1. Oh, I used to love books on tape back when I drove to work in Raleigh. That would be a good change. Smokey is a rascal. He worries me to death!

  5. I loved that series. I love all the 'Olde English' type programmes here. I'm enjoying Sherlock Holmes again at the moment.

  6. You may have inspired me to fiddle around with my sewing machine tomorrow. I was sorting fabric the other day and found several lengths that I'd forgotten I bought. Today I woke up to 0 degrees and a stiff wind. A good day to stay in and sew!

    1. Oh, and you sew beautifully! What's with this weather. We woke up to 7 degrees and wind! I'm looking forward to rain and 54 degrees on Sunday.

  7. you might try posting a "want to buy a VCR" post on Craigslist. Someone out there may be wondering what to do with one, but may not think anyone would want one. I have seen this done on our local Craigslist. Just be real clear that you're looking to buy one, not selling one. Good luck.

    1. Hey Jane! I think I've watched Upstairs Downstairs on PBS or at least parts of it. Can't wait to see both of these.

  9. I LOVE "Upstairs Downstairs". Have no interest in Downton Abbey -- I feel like I've seen the original.
I must ask you about the pink/lavender apron in the background of the photo. Might it be for sale??

  10. I like how your room mirrors the 18th century with a splash of colors. Your love for Jane Eyre definitely helped reflect all that old centurion love. Hahaha! Anyway, your room is such a charmer, Henny. Poppy seems to think so too. Thanks for giving us a tour! All the best to you! :)
