Gifts of cotton and straw

Is there anything any more fun the getting a surprise package in the mail? That's just what happened to me this week. This pretty white cotton lacy blouse sent from my cousin Pat. In the package too was a big delicious 'get well' candy bar for Poppy. Patty is always doing things like this. She is very thoughtful...unlike me...who forgets birthdays and special occasions. Thank you Patty.

Lately it seems like I've had to put my blog on the back burner. There is always something needing to be done around here and nine times out of ten I'm the one doing it..

We were warned by the weather people this morning to get any outside work done before noon. That this afternoon the wind would be brutal and the temperatures drop drastically.

After getting the usual morning housework done I drove in to town for a few groceries and to pick up a bale of hay. The goats will eat this coastal hay but I actually got it to make warm beds for all the animals. Smokey is a big help!

Friends, I have spread some pine straw!! Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined having this much pine straw...all mine! To use all around the yard! Here's the latest pile...I may have to store what's left of this huge pile under the shed to use later. Our neighbor Fred has raked all these loads of straw from his yard. Talk about work!

Gosh, here it is 10:00. Where does time go?

I seriously hope things will brighten up around here and my posting will improve. Thank you for coming back. :)

Love,
Henny

  2. How sweet of Pat to send these gifts to the two of you. I hope Poppy shared his candy bar with you. We had those brutal winds overnight last night (Wed into Thurs). The noise was awful. It woke me up and kept me awake for close to an hour. The winds were 40 mph and not for just a minute or two. I didn't get up to look outside, but I know things got blown around because this morning was trash day. Everyone had their trash cans and recycling cans out at the curb overnight. I heard some of them as well as things in the yards nearby get blown around. I hope you didn't have any damage or big branches come down.

  3. It doesn't take long for the animals to find all the cozy spots..Eli looks ready for a long winter's nap! Have a good weekend. We are expecting a deep freeze, and I don't want to even think about it,but must get to the store before it gets here.

  4. What a thoughtful cousin, the blouse is a real delight, beautiful. Looks like a lot of hard work with all that pine straw. Smokey seems to be enjoying the ride and Eli looks gorgeous as always.

  6. Dear Henny, I too hope that the winds were not so fierce as to blow down anything on your property. I have read how you hate the strong winds! I do love the pictures of that adorable dog, he just has the most gentle personality. I love the blouse your cousin sent and I hope you find a way to model it for us! Your photo by the window is very artistic!
All the best, and take care,
    Pam

  13. Eli doesn't look to rushed. Smokey knows how to 'help". Maybe you should slow down and take a clue from your furry friends. :-)
