A mushroom post - yuk

A few days back I thought about a post on the unusual mushrooms growing in the yard. But on second thought, eeewww, gross! Then this morning I happened upon this really weird mushroom. Really weird! It looks like a cherry tomato sitting in a porcelain cup...

These mushrooms are probably from all the rain lately plus the sawdust, bark, and other stuff on the ground from having trees cut a few months back. I've just read that mushrooms house thousands of tiny spores and if disturbed will spread to grow even more mushrooms. Great! I've been kicking these things and mowing over them.

A sampling of sickening mushrooms...

There are lots more but that's enough for one post!  Posting about mushrooms is not much fun.

Here's fun. I cleaned the back porch today and washed the cover on the old iron bed...one of Eli's favorite spots. I then replaced the old burlap curtains with these pale green sheer ones.

Poppy is getting good at bringing in pretty pots of vegetables. These he picked while I cooked supper again. The bigger tomatoes have splits caused, I think, by too much rain. By the way, that's a lottery ticket there on the bar. I will let you know first thing tomorrow if Poppy and I have become millionaires. I asked Poppy, if we win could I buy a donkey and run to the drug store and get a few things... :)

We have a storm brewing....a storm with a severe warning. Think I will say goodnight and back away from this computer. Thank you for visiting.

Love,
Henny Penny

  1. I find all of your mushrooms fascinating - what a variety! Here's a project for you with all that free time on your hands (ha,ha) : Find out what kind each one is - especially the cherry tomato one. :)

  2. The cherry tomato one is truly bizarre looking. Looks like something the evil Queen would have offered Snow White.

I saw a couple of cute mushrooms today while working in the yard---we have had a good bit of rain as well. Several were little small ones with very pointy tops and semi-scalloped edges----they looked just like little elf hats. The other one on a fallen log was buff colored and looked like a felted flower that you might fasten onto a knitted hat to fancy it up a bit.

Hope your storm turns out to be exaggeration on the part of the forecasters.

    1. That is a good description of the cherry tomato looking mushroom. It just looks like poison. The storm went just south of us, which is fine with me.

  4. Glad the storm missed you:) Do you eat mushrooms at all? I'm thinking not, since you called them all 'sickening':) What a fascinating variety you have.

  5. That is some variety of mushrooms. Tomatoes usually split from uneven watering..too much or too little..but they still taste okay! That is a great spot for Eli! I would love to have an nap there:)

    1. Oh thank you. I knew the splitting had something to do with water.

  8. Wow, I was finally able to leave a post. I would have written more last time if I knew it was actually going to post it. I've tried so many other times and it's always just disappered when I clicked Publish. Yeah. Love you Mama :)

    2. Guess it's not so strange after all. You have had problems leaving a comment before. Can you tell I am totally confused? Doesn't take much! :) Love you Andee.

  9. I love your unusual mushrooms! I'm sure there are fairies nearby such colorful ones. Be careful -- don't mow the fairies!
I hope you win the lottery and buy a donkey. :-)

    1. Thank you! I will be watching for those fairies. Guess I won't be buying the donkey yet. We rarely buy a lottery ticket so our chances of winning are even less. It is fun to dream though. I joke about going to buy a few things at the drug store. Poppy just looks at me. :)

    1. Thank you so much. I was on line for just a minute looking for the name of that mushroom. All I saw was one on "You Tube", and the person asking if anyone knew what it was.
