Keep your fingers crossed for me...There is a lady in Henderson who has two female Aylesbury ducks for sale on Craigs List. If she doesn't sell them today then I am going to buy them tomorrow.
Here is a picture she posted of one of her ducks...
Our lonely Muscovy duck needs a friend. Another breed of duck will be a good change and the Aylesbury duck actually "quacks"! Won't that be fun! There will be NO nesting under the shed!
Most of the time ducks are safe when they have access to a pond...which we have. They can swim away from danger. Our old Muscovy duck pair lived near the pond for ten years.
You know we have a teeny tiny garden...one Eggplant grows there. Well I am totally proud of that Eggplant. Here's why...
Poppy and I have eaten two and yesterday I picked these two big ones. Did I mention how many years I have tried to grow Eggplant? Well it has been a bunch! Mama used to say, I can't stand an old Eggplant" and that's probably why I don't remember ever eating one until I married Poppy. His Mother cooked Eggplant by slicing them into thin round slices, soaking the slices in salt water, then dipping the slices in a batter and frying in oil.
I've never talked about Poppy's Mother. She passed away a few years ago. She was a very sweet person. I love these two old pictures...she was beautiful too...
And speaking of Poppy...
Folks I am still scrubbing, cleaning, and wielding a paint brush...now it's the front porch floor...
And next, that scratched up door and frame.
Well what a mix of stuff I've posted here. Sure hope you will decide to come back. Thank you for visiting.
Love,
Henny

Your eggplants are magnificent. I like eggplant but rarely cook with it. I do like it best fried, but my frying days are pretty much over.
ReplyDeleteWhat I need are some good eggplant recipes other than ratatouille.
That's what I need too. The fried eggplant has too much fat and I want to lose 10 pounds. Of course I will still have to fry one for Poppy.
DeleteFingers crossed, that's a beautiful duck !
ReplyDeleteI've never eaten eggplant, you;ve inspired me to try it.
"More painting, and cleaning" sounds like my 'to-do' list, seems to never end. We are having the siding trim on our home replaced, there's always something to take care of isn't there :)
Lovely pictures of Poppy's mum and Poppy .

I still have not heard from the lady. She may have sold the ducks today. :( There is always something that needs to be done around the house. My list doesn't seem to get any smaller.
DeleteMy goodness you do stay busy. I wish I had you here to help me with all the work that needs to be done around here. We have had several nice short cool spells here. Next week highs in the low 70's and lows in the 50's----nice! I love having the AC off and the windows open. Wonderful for getting out in the yard and getting things done in July that usually languish until September when it begins to cool off a bit. I was asked to be on a Garden Walk next June and so am beginning now to get things out of the way that I would normally do in the spring. Getting everything looking good all at once will be enough of a job without extra little jobs hanging over my head. Thank goodness my husband is pitching in to help with some of the stuff that I just couldn't manage to do on my own.
ReplyDeleteWe have almost picked out a color for the house and today bought a little sample can of the color we think will work. We will paint a little patch up by the limestone to see how the siding will look with this bluish grey. Grey is a little bit boring and II wanted a grey with a bit of lavender in it but just couldn't find one that would pass muster with my husband ----"Too purple!". I suppose you can get away with a little bit of cute with a very small house but not with a larger one. A little bitty frame house down the street was at one time painted lavender and lilac and was just adorable. I smiled every time I passed it. Several years later it was sold and the new owners painted it brown and tan. What were they thinking?! Some people just have no imagination.
And next week we are supposed to have highs in the 80's and lows in the 60's. I too love to open the bedroom window and turn off the AC. We don't have weather like this often in July. You must have a beautiful yard or gardens. You do mean to walk through your garden? What a compliment. Your house sounds pretty too. Aren't men funny about colors. Never would I have dreamed that my husband would want a red house. Never! I like our red house okay, but if I had it to do over, I don't think I would go with red. The stain is beginning to tone down some.
ReplyDeleteI do hope you get the ducks...they would be happy at your place. Eggplant is one of the few vegetables I dislike.
ReplyDeleteJane x
It's not a vegetable I am wild about but I like it. I've just found a couple of recipes that sound good.
DeleteEnjoyed the "mix of stuff".....the porch color looks really good!
ReplyDeleteHey Meggie! Thank you. I've finished that finally!
DeleteHope you get the ducks!
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed week! ♥
Thank you. I have not heard from the lady so she may have sold the ducks. :( You have a blessed week too.
DeleteI see Eli got your door...he sure is growing! I have never eaten eggplant. Good luck with the new ducks:)
ReplyDeleteOh, you should see the deep scratches. He visits the groomer for the first time tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteEli is always so white looking! What are you getting the groomer to do that you don't? Have to ask, I have never taken a dog to the groomer in my life:)
ReplyDeleteHoping you get the ducks. Craigslist has it's own set of rules, what is the polite thing to do,not, ahhh, sometimes I find it so iinfuriating. Just take the ad down if the thing is sold, or reply to the people enquiring and let them know it is sold. Seeing the ad up and not hearing back can be so frustrating.
Your eggplants are so shiny and perfect! I have had lots of blossoms but they are not setting fruit. What's up with that?
ReplyDeleteHope you get the ducks that quack.
Sorry to hear about your duck troubles. I don't think I could live where there are killer snakes. Shudder!
ReplyDeleteI have never grown or cooked eggplant, just had it a few times in restaurants. yours are beautiful.
