Dear friends,
Gosh, I've been trying for days now to post something. Last night I did finish a cute apron...cute because of the fabric, not my sewing...
reminds me of kitchens back in the 1950's...
I made a little half apron, or gathering apron, from the same fabric...
and did the craziest thing...Cut it out with the print up-side-down.
My neighbor Ann was singing my praises (I can't imagine) at the beauty shop where she gets her hair cut and came home with requests for three aprons. Think I'll go ahead and send the up-side-down one too. Might be good for a laugh anyhow.
The gold fabric with cherries below is another apron for the ladies at the beauty shop.
Oh, last week I went to Walmart in Henderson to buy fabric. Our Walmart here in Louisburg doesn't carry fabric. Anyhow, I needed solid colors for making bias tape for the aprons...
and look! Did you know Walmart sells two-yard packages of solid color cotton/polyester fabric for $5.oo each? I was tickled to death. Two yards is perfect!
and speaking of fabric! Remember the boxes of fabric Diane from Kentucky sent me? Oh my gosh! What a gift! Thank you again Diane.
A couple of days ago I walked outside to take a picture of all the leaves I need to start raking up...
but good grief! You should see the yard this morning! We were under a high wind warning all day yesterday; 20 to 30 mph winds with gusts up to 60 mph.
Oops! No bright blue skies in these pictures, but these were just passing clouds..."fairing up clouds", as mama used to say.
Everything always looks so pretty at your house! Molly sure did love her bunny! That was so sweet of you. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteYou don't see aprons much anymore. Then again, you don't see women work in skirts or dresses much either.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful yard. I love full aprons. I make them and buy them. I guess you could say I am a collector of aprons. That one is very cute.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun aprons! The upside-down one will probably end up being a favorite :-) I love the autumn leaves.
ReplyDeleteI like the vintage look of that apron. As for the gathering apron, if I picture the person wearing it holding it up to fill it full of apples or whatever, part of the print would be right side up!
ReplyDeleteIt's always fun to come visiting at your house. Your yard looks lovely in fall, leaves and all.

ReplyDeleteI do love your aprons. That's my favorite style - so good at keeping one's clothes clean! I'm a messy kitchen person. I found myself wondering if you ever sew nightgowns, the old-fashioned long flowy kind. I ordered one from Vermont Country, but at their prices, I can probably only afford one every few years, haha!
ReplyDeleteWhen you mentioned raking leaves, I hopped right up and went out and raked pine straw. We put it onto our beds for the winter. Thanks for that reminder!
Oh! I did the same upside down thing! I bought some cute doggy fabric for Adam, to make him a couple of masks. I was so careful not to put the dogs faces going sideways ... but then I got them upside down!
I love that apron! Very vintage-y! We've been gray, cold, and rainy, here too. I've had enough of that but here we are heading into that time of year. Yuck!
ReplyDeleteGrace & Peace,
Pam
Your pictures are so pretty.
ReplyDeleteLove the kitchen retro half apron. Like it upside down, you can just look down and see it right side up. :)
I adore aprons and have worn them for years. I love what you have sewn, even the upside down one!
ReplyDeleteHello Henny, All your photos are so nice! Whenever I sew, seems I always make a mistake no matter how hard I try not to! I was looking at Eli's picture. Is he much of a shredder? I was looking online for a puppy and someone had Great Pyrenees-is that his breed? The pups were adorable. And what is Weeties(did I spell that wrong) breed? Thank you for your lovely thoughts and blog. Helps me cope to get "away" for a bit.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Yes, Eli is a Great Pyrenees. He does shed a lot and he stays inside with us. But like Poppy says, shedding is his only fault. Eli is the most perfect dog we have ever owned. He never does anything wrong. He was the easiest to train. He listens to us. Of course, we started off talking to him when we brought him home at ten weeks old. The Pyrenees puppies are adorable and they stay adorable. Weetie is a sweetie pie too. She is part Jack Russel and part Chihauhau, the vet thinks. We rescued Weetie when someone moved away and left her in the woods. Hope you get a puppy.
DeleteYour aprons are so cute! And the upside down one made me laugh.
ReplyDeleteIt's looking beautiful there!
Thank you so much for your comment today. You complimented my knitting but I sure wish I could sew like you. I absolutely love those aprons...even the upside down one! The person wearing it will be able to see the print perfectly! I only have one apron now because mine were in such bad shape that I finally got rid of them when we moved.
ReplyDeleteI wish we could put our trailer on your property by the lake. You have such a beautiful home and it looks so calm and peaceful.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend.
Blessings,
Betsy
I think the aprons you've made lately are the best yet! The fabric is pretty and you make them look so nice. I try to wear one of my aprons every time I bake. My sister sews well and has made me several. I've also picked some up at thrift stores, often with cross stitch on them. I love the old fashioned look.
ReplyDeleteI always love your pictures, Henny. Those pics outdoors and looking out from your porch, are wonderful. Love your aprons too...even the upside down one. Still looks like alot of leaves hanging in the trees....your raking must be quite the chore. Take good care and come back soon!
ReplyDeleteI so love that fabric....it does take me back in time. As does that shade of green bias binding. Coming here is like getting a breath if fresh air.
ReplyDeleteI always love to see your aprons! That half apron is not upside down to the person wearing it - when they look down at it they see it right side up! You know Henny, your land and home and everything always just looks wonderful in every season. I love your place. And I saw sweet little Weetie on the bridge in that one picture of your house!
ReplyDeleteHi Henny- Wow! Your skills at sowing are magic- love those 1950s Aprons. Bit daunted by all those leaves - Poppy needs a Vacuum Cleaner on his John Deer Mower- that'd make short work of it. Great Scenic Photos there of your Farmlet. Best Wishes. KEV.
ReplyDeleteooooO! End of the queue to~day Henny..! :(.
ReplyDeleteHeHe! I did pop out for a few minutes earlier,
first time since Monday..Rain and wind..and
blowing a gale out there to~day..! :(.
Always love seeing photos of our lake/pond..
l say lake/pond..as you refer it to a pond,
yet over here it's a lake, as most things
over there are much BIGGER than anywhere else! :).
And...l've been out on the patio every morning,
sweeping up leaves, the Virginia Creeper is almost
bear now..soon as it dries a bit, l'll get out there
and start giving it a trim..! If the rain ever lets
up...!
The aprons look lovely as ever, and, l still wear one
in the kitchen, can't be having splashes of cooking
on my pink outfits..! :o).
And..l prefer the fuller type apron, covers a lot more
of course..!
Well..best get on..hope Poppy got down from his tree o.k.
Does'nt sound/look as though he got any deer! Oh! Dear! :o(.
Oh! And..Happy and Goulish Halloween....!
💮 🍁 🎃 👻 🍂 💮 🍁 🎃 👻 🍂 💮 🍁 🎃
Beautiful photos. Love the apron too.
ReplyDeleteYep, wind and rain. Hurricane Zeta made it to northern Ohio, we got 2 1/2 inches of rain and now this morn it is 27.
ReplyDeleteLeaves down like you, don't want to start raking, but like you, Henny, it will have to be done. Fun aprons and here
you will be busy sewing up orders. That's great, especially since you have had little chance of craft show sales.
Love seeing the rose bush holding up thru the storms and all. Beautiful.
love to visit your blog! The aprons are super! And the one you said is upside down....it's great for the person wearing the apron it's right side up for her! The weather here is getting colder, too, so that gets me back into my sewing/art room again, helps get the creativity going!! On the television news I heard we may have another year of covid isolation, if a vaccination takes a while, so it sure is good to have lots of hobbies and lots of books to read. Had a nice morning catching up on everyones blogs, thank you for posting and great pictures! I live in the state of Washington in the country on a river near our western coast, and enjoy all of our seasons, today being a beautiful autumn day! Thank you for your uplifting blog!
ReplyDeleteOh my, yes, getting pretty leafy around here too. I'm just waiting for the beech leaves to come down and then it's rake, rake, rake.
ReplyDeleteFrost predicted for tomorrow night. 27 degrees. Yikes. I have today brought in potted plants that I want to save over the winter and aired all my wool socks and our winter coats so I am prepared for it I think.
Depends on how you look at things that apron is just perfect for a person looking down at it:) You do beautiful work:)
ReplyDeleteYour creativity is endless, I love seeing your new aprons !
ReplyDeleteYou and Poppy all tucked away in your little farm, with beautiful views and peace and serenity. I couldn't think of a better place to be in this chaotic world of ours.
Thank you for sharing Henny.
Hugs,
Jo
Oh Henny.. your upside down apron is totally something I would do!! I was always taught to "measure twice and cut once", but I get 'sew' easily distracted... Ohh, pretty butterfly... that I make a good share of mistakes! lol!
ReplyDeleteHappy Autumn.... and thank you for sharing your view with us...
I do like that fabric, the aprons are cute. Yes, leaves everywhere on our property as well. I love the smell, the freshness in the air right now. I will miss Fall.💖
ReplyDeleteSuch sweet fabric and the apron is so cute! You have such a pretty area, leaves and all!
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteLove the fabric and your creative sewing Henny. :-)
And I always love when you share what your mom would have said... those sayings make me smile.
Carla
I really do love the aprons and the fun fabrics are really perfect! I wore aprons like that for years, as did my Mom - I make such a mess! :-)
ReplyDeleteI love the photos of the place you call home too! We never rake our leaves, so we have tons, they know they are safe here! ....and it helps that they blow away by spring. :-)
I fell in love with the aprons .
