Fall Dreaming

Dear friends,

Thank you for the nice comments on my last post. I appreciate your visits so much!

Gosh, I felt like Tasha Tudor bringing in this big bundle of twigs...

except I wasn't wearing an old frock and an apron. Remember the picture of Tasha carrying the bundle of twigs? One of my favorite photos of her...

If only my old frocks and aprons looked as pretty as Tasha Tudors did.

These are just a few of the sticks and twigs that fell during that windy day, last Friday. In fact, these were in the driveway and front yard...I've only just begun cleaning up the rest of the yard.

Got my coffee fixed this morning, and noticed there were still coals in the fireplace from last night's fire. A handfull of the newly gathered twigs and a piece or two of split firewood...

and we soon had another warm fire...Our coffee by the fire didn't last long. Eli can tell time you know, and when Poppy is home, that means we can walk all the way to the highway.

As we started out, the smell of the fire caused me to look back at the smoke coming from the chimney. Aw, I thought, that's it, my little old log cabin in the woods...or as close as I'll ever get.

Actually a little log cabin in the foodhills of the mountains, a rugged old fence or two, an old barn, and few animals has always been my dream...funny I've always dreamed of having a tiny home tucked away somewhere deep in the woods.

So we walked...

and I, deep in my thoughts, lagged behind. Fall of the year affects me this way. I want a barn with a hay loft and a donkey. I really do. Maybe tomorrow I'll put on an old frock and wear an apron.

and appreciate my teeny tiny goat barn and the little red chicken house...

and try out the brand new rake I bought today at Tractor Supply...

now I wonder what these two are planning...

Didn't mean to go on and on. Hope you'll come back real soon.

Love,

Henny

  1. Such a cute post. Henny! I always love your comments and your pictures. Your fire looks so homey and beautiful and warm! Bet your walk was nice down that road. You do have a sweet log cabin in the woods and it looks so nice to me. I love that you share it with all of us. Hope that's the last of your big storms for awhile...what alot of work cleaning up after that. Thanks for coming back so soon!

  2. You've wanted a donkey (or 2) for such a long time. I hope you'll get them yet. Don't give up.

  3. Now that I'm a hobbler, I no longer pick up anything the riding lawnmower will run over! - lol

  4. I love your ever-so-special cabin in the woods. My sister keeps trying to give me a donkey or two. It surely is hard to resist those ever-so-long ears and big bright eyes, but so far so good. I know I don't need another animal around here to take care of. I will be back to see that old frock and apron!

  7. Do you know how many of us would love to have your sweet home in the woods, or at least to visit you in it! Dennis and I have always wanted a small log home on five acres or so in the mountains. I do believe it's time I let go of that dream. Five acres is a lot of land to take care of when you have the health things I do and it's not fair to put it all on Dennis as we reach retirement age.
I adore the photos where you looked back on your cozy cabin with the smoke coming out of the chimney and the chickens. Just everything. It's a happy home and that's obvious.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

I must confess..l had to Google Tasha Tudor..
Never heard of her, will pop back later for
    a longer read..! :).

Blowing a gale over here, no rain, just wind..
In for the day it seems..must try and get into
    town to~day..!
And..The country is on 'FULL' Lockdown as from
Thursday..so back to square one it seems! :(.
Never mind, plenty to keep busy with..! HeHe! :o).

  10. A storybook world! Yes, a little cabin in the woods with a little barn sounds lovely. I would have chickens (of course), maybe a couple of sheep, a pony or miniature horse (donkeys can be quite loud), maybe an alpaca with the sheep... After reading your post, it makes me want to start a fire in the woodstove - we have snow, here! -Jenn

  11. What a wonderful blog post! Such appealing photos. And I really like the one of Tasha Tudor. I should follow her style; it's how I see myself in my mind anyway!

  12. Hi Henny...I so enjoyed this post. Will go back and read it again. Your cabin in the woods is beautiful, so well cared for and charming. I love to see all around your property. I've always wondered how much land you have. I love Tasha Tudor, too. My favorite photo is her with her tabby in the garden. (of course lol) It is so windy here today that I will be out tomorrow picking up branches all over. And here comes some snow. Take care and give all those little ones a hug for me. Maybe two for Smokey. xo

  13. I too like Tasha. And your fire looks so inviting. A picturesque scene both inside and out.

  14. Such pleasant Fall thoughts, Henny. Nice to see the fire started right up with that bundle of
twigs, which are work to gather. We had our first snow yesterday, and high winds stripped the trees
bare except for the oaks. Had to rake early this morn before today's wind picks up. I think
Smokey and Wheetie must be exchanging ideas for a Fall frolic.

  17. I think all of your hard work and vision are what makes your dreams come true, your home and farm are a testament to that.
Tasha Tudor is one of my most favorite ladies. She lived life on her terms, simply and gracefully, you remind me of her so much.
Well, I know it's easier said than done, but please watch that cranky back of yours whilst doing all these chores, I wish you were closer, I could help :)
    Hugs,
    ~Jo

  18. You remind me of Tasha too, and I think your home is just as interesting as hers. Wasn't she amazing? So wonderful to have her books we can be inspired and cheered by. I love your bags of sticks and the fireplace photo is to dream about!!! I would love one. To cook over and drink tea by and to have that wonderful light in the room and warmth. Thank you for such a cheery post-it helps so much at this hard time.

  23. Henny you live in such a beautiful setting. Your log house in the woods is just perfect. Tasha Tudor was the neatest person. The way she lived and her art was so inspirational. I am sure she would have been delighted to wear one of your lovely aprons. Well hope you are staying cozy and warm. Hugs!

  25. You already know that I think your place is absolutely perfect, just the way it is. A bit of paradise I would say. Hey, are those guinea hens in your yard? So sweet!
Enjoy your cozy fireplace. If I lived closer I would bring over sausages to roast and invite myself to dinner, LOL.
