Hillbilly chick and other things

Sure hope this video plays. It doesn't show a lot, but is the best I could come up with in these last three days..

I've been trying awfully hard to catch that little hillbilly bantam chick climbing up that tall ladder and going into the box. All I can say is this chick has had to learn mighty fast. When he was only two days old I heard him chirping like something was wrong. I ran out to check and found the mama, Lucille, way up in the box clucking and coaxing the baby to find his way up that ladder. By four days old, he was going up the ladder and sleeping in the box. She even pecks him on the head in the video...did you see that?

Eli has a vet appointment at 2:30 today. His left ear is bothering him again. He is a sweetie pie! I love this dog! Can't wait to find out what his weight is now.  Weetie is going along too for her three year Rabies vaccine.

There is no shortage of help around here. I can always count on Weetie and Smokey to come along with me, even in the hot garden.

Better get busy. It's a thirty minute drive to the vet's office and our appointment is in one hour. Need to get all the animals rounded up and situated...and find Weetie's collar and leash.

Hope to be back soon. Thank you for visiting.

Love,
Henny

  1. I hope Lucille was giving soft pecks to Baby Chick. Mean Mama!, Mean Mama! Looks like Baby Chick has the down part figured out but it's the up part that would be so difficult.

    Hope Eli's ear gets better.

How are you feeling after the vertigo?

  3. That video is fun. It's still hard to imagine that tiny ball of fluff getting up that ladder.
Like vic, I'm hoping your vertigo has improved.

  6. We are going to expect more videos after this! That little chick sure learned fast, but those banties are smart little so n' sos:) Hope the vet visit goes well. I'm thankful our vet is only a mile and a half away, just around the corner so to speak.

  7. I guess Lucille was like "Get yourself up here RIGHT NOW or I'm comin' down there and peck you one good!" So then they all went down? Or were they headed down in the first place? Poor little Hillybilly chick. The video is so cute.

    1. That is exactly how she acts! When I get the camera out Lucille gets all flustered and flies around like she doesn't know if she is coming or going!

  8. What a sweet video. Too bad mama cannot wear one of your aprons and just pop that baby right in her pocket. Hi there, Smokey. Always love to see you. Hope Eli feels better. Sending a hug, Deb

    1. I was tickled that I actually loaded a video and it worked! Our vet used to be about four miles away, but he retired and sold his business. Now we drive to Bunn, NC.

  14. Love having you show us different features of your "little" farm, and the inhabitants. Makes me think I know my way around it, but I am sure I haven't seen it all! Hope all the animals had a successful vet visit. Must have looked like a circus clown car just getting everybody in and out of the car!

  15. Did you take the video down this morning? It is just a space on your blog. And I hate to miss it!
It doesn't look like the curious Smoky is worrying the bunny any by sitting over its head. And it looks like the bunny's fur is growing back quite nicely after his haircut this spring. Are you doing okay with grooming him now?

    1. No, the video is still showing up when I look at my blog. That's funny. I'll call my daughter and ask if she can see it. I was taking BunBun to play in the dog lot and stopped for a minute to take a picture. Smokey never tries to bother him. BunBun's fur has grown back really pretty. I still can't hold him, but I carry the brush with me and reach inside the cage. So far his fur doesn't seem to be matting.

  16. To cute on the baby chick! We put Keeper on some dog food, yes I was cooking all his meals but our Vet who also has GP's herself suggested we try Purina Pro Plan Large/Giant breed dog food. I was very hesitant to put him back on dog food because he had not had a ear infection since I had cooked all his food for him. But I will admit it was a lot of work. We got some of the food and have been giving him it with a can of tuna fish on it every night... He liked it the first night with no human food but Keeper has always been a super picky eater... So the next night he said nope I want human food.. so we put Tuna Fish in Water on it and mixed it in .. one can.. well he gobbled that up... We have been doing this now for a whole bags worth of food.. 37 lb bag of the dog food... KNOCKING on wood he has not got a ear infection. Our vet told us that Purina grows or raises all of their own ingredients for this food and its made here in the USA... She said the research behind this dog food was top notch... She doesn't sell this food either and since she has GP's herself and this is her choice of food for her them .. we gave it a try.... every other food other than me cooking for Keeper he got ear infections...so for what its worth thought I would pass this on
