Poppy's Birthday and Andee's Christmas

Looks like I'll be stuck inside for a day or two as the rain has just started to fall again. Can't complain though, we've had several warm beautiful days this week.

Poppy is the news of the day...well actually he was the news of yesterday, his birthday. The 22nd...

Seeing as how we seldom eat out, and it being Poppy's birthday, we decided to ride to Wake Forest and eat lunch at the "Olive Garden". We, especially me, or so I thought, enjoyed getting out of the house. The food was delicious!

The waitresses were going to sing Happy Birthday to Poppy until I said, oh, you don't have to do that. Are you sure, asked the waitress. Oh, sure. When we got back to the truck, Poppy said, I can't believe you didn't want them sing Happy Birthday to me. Gosh, I felt terrible. My thinking was that I had saved us a lot of embarrassment!

In other news, at the end of this month Andee can finally pick up her Christmas present from Todd...

This big sweet baby boy, a "Golden Retriever". He will be eight weeks old and old enough to come home with Andee...

Andee's expression here looks like "awhhhh"! Reminds me of the day we brought Eli home. Can't you just smell that puppy smell?

Little Smokey's surgery has not slowed him down one bit. He got a little sweeter maybe...

I'm afraid there hasn't been a lot of fun exciting stuff to post lately and my blog has become pretty dull. Guess I should be thankful that I haven't burned up any more pots or anything like that. Thank you for stopping by. Please do come back. I appreciate your friendship so very much.

Love,
Henny

  2. Always good to be having another birthday, singing waitresses or not! Tell Poppy"Best Wishes" from us, and hope for many more. Looks like a sunny day too. I love that new pup! We are visiting friends who always had Goldenseal, and now have a Goldendoodle about the same age as Eli. Nothing like a huge growing puppy at 95lbs!

  3. Happy Birthday Poppy!!! I love Olive Garden one of my favorite places to eat!. I am glad you all got out and had a good time. I am glad the Smokey is doing good after his surgery. Andee's puppy is so pretty! Is it a girl or boy and what did she name it?
    Love you!

    1. I will tell Poppy! The puppy is a boy and she hasn't picked a name yet. Every name she decides on, Madison doesn't like it. :) Andee said she is naming the puppy and not telling Todd and Madison what it is yet. :)

  4. Oh eating out is wonderful. Someone else to cook and do the clean up----what's not to love? Although I would not like to eat out exclusively since the variety of vegetables available is minuscule and my husband always complains that they never have pie (except for cheesecake and key lime pie which really don't count as pie). Happy birthday Poppy!

Andee's new puppy is just adorable. What a face! How could you not just fall in love with him.

    1. It is wonderful! Gosh, it had been so long since we had eaten out, except for ordering pizza once in a while, that I hardly knew how to act. I'm sure the waitress thought it was new to us! :)

A lovely place to eat lunch, such a treat.
Andree's puppy is as cute as they come, such a loyal breed.
Smokey looks no worse for the wear, he probably doesn't even know what's been done to him....we'll keep it a secret :)

  11. Happy birthday to Poppy!~ I don't like the attention of having somebody sing happy birthday to me in a restaurant. Some places will bring a fancy ice cream and that I can handle.

    1. Yes, I could handle the ice cream better too. :)

  13. Happy Belated Birthday to Poppy!. Last week was my husband's birthday and we're celebrating tomorrow with friends, the first time we could all be together since the big day. It's always a treat to me to eat out. It's not that I don't want to cook, it's that I hate having to decide WHAT to cook every day. If someone gave me a menu, I'd be happy to follow it. But, after almost 50 years of cooking dinner almost every night, I'm just tired of having to think it about it, plan it and make sure I've got everything and meat is thawed, since I always freeze meat when I buy it. I hope you don't have really bad weather this weekend. Our weather reports show radar maps of the whole country and this evening the meteorologist said that your part of the country was going to have ice. I hope they're wrong.

    1. Peg, thank you. Happy birthday to your husband! Your comment could have totally been written by me! It is so hard to think of something to cook every night. Poppy says, you know me, anything is okay. Yeah right. He does not like casseroles. He doesn't care for ham, except country ham for breakfast. He hates it when I try new recipes. Just plain meat, potatoes, bread, gravy. I could eat cereal three times a day! :)

  17. Puppies, kittens, kids -- they all grow up too fast. Those years are so precious. Glad Smokey is doing well, and Andee's puppy couldn't be cuter!

  18. Hi Henny,

That is great to hear that Smokey is doing well! A couple of nights ago I read your blog all the way back to the day he first showed up and you feed him under the old dog house! It was quite fun and I am so happy and pleased at how he has settled right in! I loved meeting you, Poppy, (Happy Belated Birthday to him) and all the other animals, too. Wonderful!

    1. Lily, thank you so much! I was just talking to Lynn while looking at my blog and I said to Lynn, I have a comment from Lily, a friend of yours. Lynn said, oh Lily is such a sweet person. Lynn has always had such a good blog. Little Smokey has made himself right at home here and he loves Poppy!

    2. Thanks for your reply as my response was late to your blog.

I love hearing that Smokey is right at home and that he gets to have the chance to love Poppy! *winks as she shakes her head*

That was kind of Lynn to say. I would say the same about her! : )

      Thanks,
      Lily

  19. Happy Belated Birthday to Poppy. Glad for you that you went out for dinner and you didn't have to cook:) Isn't that funny about the birthday singing, you are so sure you are doing the right thing....and it turns out you aren't. A bit frustrating.
