Dear Friends,
Not feeling so chipper this morning. Could it be that I've overdone it these last few beautiful days...I'm good at that, you know.
Little Smokey and I were on the road at 8:15 this morning. Today is his appointment with Dr. Davis. Poor baby. He'll be fine and back home after 4:00 today...
Sneaking up on Dumperoo...
Wasn't it in the early 1980's when country blue and mauve pink became so popular? And if that wasn't bad enough, every utensil in the house was decorated with a pink heart and a duck wearing a pink or blue ribbon around it's neck.
It was along about that time that Poppy and I, one Sunday, were on our way down home to see Mama. We stopped in Vass to walk around in the "Dunrovin Country Store", an unusual store that sells a little bit of everything. Their motto is, "If we don't have it, you don't need it"...
We bought this kettle for Mama...
She loved this little kettle and used it for years. Now I use it...ducks, hearts, ribbons and all.
One morning a few months back I put water in the kettle for tea and turned on the burner. We use gas...a flame. Anyway, my neighbor stopped by to visit for a minute. We were standing at the front door talking when she said, what have you got cooking that smells so good? Nothing, I said. Huh, she said. A minute later she said again, what is that? It smells a little like a cake baking. Turns out it was the handle on the little tea kettle burning. Glad I had not wandered off too far...
Better get busy. It was cloudy here this morning, but now looks like the sun might shine. :) Hope to be back soon.
Love,
Henny

Hope you are feeling a little better you obviously did too much out in the garden. I have some vintage needlepoint and cross stitch patterns of the delightful duck with a ribbon around its neck.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I do like the ducks.
DeleteHope little Smokey recovers quickly, he'll not be half the man he used to be ;)
ReplyDeleteI can't tell you how many kettles I have burned, leaving them unattended on the stove.
I still have blues in my home decorating, and one Quenn Anne chair, Mauve pink, but covered with a tapestry on the back. If I enjoy something, it stays....forever. lol.
Dumperoo is a pretty cat, and spoilt :)
Hope you feel better soon !

Thank you Jo. Oh, I went crazy with the blue and pink. Everything had to be blue for the kitchen. I still love pink. Smokey seems to be doing fine. :)
DeleteThat little kettle lost several of its lives that day.
ReplyDeleteMy bedroom is still decorated in blue and rose pink. It's a very calming color scheme.
I didn't mean to sound like I didn't like the pink and blue. :) I absolutely loved it. I too still have a lot of the pink, but got tired of blue.
DeleteHope Smokey's home by now. You two just curl up together and you should both feel better by morning. Hugs, Deb
ReplyDeleteOh, thank you. I have tried and tried to get Smokey to curl up in my lap. I want to comfort him. He will stay for a minute or two thenhe jumps down. He is an independent little kitty.
DeleteI want to go in that store. I noticed it at christmas when we went to the new tractor supply they built close by. I will have to check it out next time we go out there. Hope Smokey feels good soon and you to!
ReplyDeleteLove you
It's been a long time since I've been there. There was a special on Channel 5 news about the store being under new management. They have even more stuff now! That place has been there a long time. I love Tractor Supply too!
DeletePoor Smokey I hope he is home and doing okay. Yes everyone decorated with geese and ducks with those ribbons. I had a blue kitchen back them country blue and duck and geese all over even a wall paper border. Knock on wood I have not burned anything lately:)
ReplyDeleteThat's funny. I had the blue wall paper border too...country blue with white ducks. The ducks wore pink ribbons.
DeleteYou don't find too many stores like the one you visited. My wife could spend all day in there and not buy anything.
ReplyDeleteYou shouldn't be 'getting busy' you should be resting ! I think you definitely did too much recently.
ReplyDeleteI remember those pink/blue items very well, they're selling here in UK now as 'retro' items.
I hope Smokey is OK, I'll be looking out for your next post.
I remember those ducks! So retro now, but I loved them. You should probably rest a day or two..although I know that is so hard to do. I don't like sitting still for too long.
ReplyDeleteGet well wishes for Smokey! I do remember those ducks with bows, and I used to have an orange enameled teakettle with a wooden handle that I did that to more than once. I even remember the sweet smell it gave off!
ReplyDeleteOooops! Glad you didn't go too far from the kettle. I had one similar to that that I managed to burn dry many years back. End of kettle! I can't be trusted with anything that doesn't have an automatic shut-off. :)
ReplyDeleteha ha. You cook like I do.
