Our big snow...flurries

The days go by so fast! Sometimes I feel like all I do is open and close curtains! Seriously!

Gosh, that big snow storm moving up the east coast! Seems like North Carolina is always just outside the snow line. Oh, we've got snow this morning. Let me show you...

This is how our snow usually looks...

Getting this amount of snow is fine with me now. A few years ago however, if the weatherman called for snow and this is all that fell, we would be furious! We used to wish and hope and pray for snow. We dreamed about playing outside, building a snowman, making snow cream...praying that the snow would at least be enough to close the schools and give us a good excuse for not going in to work. But most of the time around here all that excitement turns to sadness as the snow melts as fast as it hits the ground.

Old sweety pie did get to run through the falling snow flakes early this morning...

The towel I left on the porch for drying his feet...he snatched up and brought inside and into his chair, wet feet and all...

and, we're going to whip Poppy for throwing the towel over Eli's head...

We have had a few beautiful snow storms in the past. In the year 2000 we got a shocking twenty inches. Poppy and I thoroughly enjoyed that big snow.

That was back when Nikki and Susie were still with us. Big Nicki was part wolf and just the sweetest dog ever! Eli reminds us a lot of Nikki...

Both Nikki and Susie were special dogs. We still miss them.

I appreciate your stopping by. Better get busy. I don't quite know how to act...Eli is at the groomer's and Poppy is at work...all this free time!

Love,
Henny

  1. it's the same way here....we are more likely to get ice. It is rolling hills here...snow would be better to drive on than ice. Stay warm....and, thanks for your comment on my post.

    1. Oh yes. I am afraid of ice. We get more ice too, I think.

  2. thank you for the chuckle regarding poor Eli getting his head toweled by Poppy. It must be a circus over there.

  4. I used to enjoy those huge snowfalls, at least huge for our Southern state, but always hated driving in them.
My first HUGE snowfall experience was when we lived in Colorado.....now THEY have snowfalls !!
At least you got to see snowflakes falling, which is always magical to me.
Love Eli, he's such a love.
    Stay warm.

    1. I've never been to Colorado, but my son-in-law is from Grand Junction. My favorite part of snow is watching it fall. It is magical. Thank you Jo.

  5. I feel the same way about snow. I just want a little, not a lot. Just a dusting would do. There is still time for us to get one snow here in Central Virginia. But I only love it when it first falls. Clean, pure. Before the duck and the chickens poop in it and lay muddy foot prints across it. ;O)

  6. We don't have much more than you this year! Of course if we get any it takes months to melt not days. Some days seem to fly right on by here too:)

    1. Seems like you haven't had as much this year as last year. It's sure been cold though, hasn't it?

  8. That is not fair, I have not even saw a snowflake. Well winter is not over yet. I am hopeful. Eli is so cute with his towel. The two dogs are so pretty and I loved the 27 inches of snow we got way back then. I only hated being with power.
    Love you

    1. Gosh, you all did get 27" of snow. Raleigh got 24". That's hard to believe. Wonder if it will ever happen again! Love you!

  9. Hi Henny - If I could just box up some snow for you I'd be outside right this minute. You can have it all. I only want it on Christmas day. :)
I think our winter this year has been quite easy on us. Very few storms and lots of sunshine. It is cold, though. We Canadians are supposed to be tough and enjoy the frigid weather but I much prefer to be outside in sandals. Won't be long before Spring is here because the weeks do fly by. That Eli is the cutest dog ever. I love his personality. I'm sure you do miss Nikki and Susie. They stay forever in our hearts.Deb

  10. That's actually the kind of snow I could handle here..just a dusting, then bye-bye! I have this feeling that we are still going to see some and probably more than we want before winter is over.

  11. It's usually the same here in Seattle with snow. We seldom get much more that a thin wet layer that melts away. If we do get more, it's crazy here, with all of our hills. Schools close, traffic jams up, and accidents abound.

  12. Well, be careful what you wish for. You might get the 20 in of snow again.

  14. Nice you got a taste of winter and some real snow to enjoy. It does look pretty when it's fresh and clean. We have way less this year than other years, but February and even March can bring some big ones so we are not off the hook yet. Looks like Eli enjoyed it!

  17. Eli looks so cute with that towel in his mouth! But we never forget those who came before though, like Nikki and Susie, and we wouldn't really want to either, huh.

We long for "snow days" here, too, in Eastern WA. This is the third year in a row we have had hardly any. Maybe next year is what we keep saying!

    Love,
    Lily

  18. Hey Lily. You're right, we don't forget those pet who were with us all those years. Maybe you will get that big snow this year! I do still get excited when I see those first snowflakes falling, hoping it will bring three or four inches. :) Thank you.
