freeze tonight and animal pairs

Oh my gosh, were we ever glad to see the sun come up this morning. The weather lately has been dark and dreary. Out with Eli and Weetie at 4:30 this morning...I looked up and there were stars, and the moon! The clouds were gone!

Tonight we are supposed to have our first freeze. I've been up to the garden and picked
the last of the pretty zinnias...and now feel bad for the ones that didn't get picked, the faded ones.

I've plugged in the little milk house heater to keep the teeny tiny greenhouse warm...for a night or two anyway...

there were many buds and new growth on the potted rose bushes. I hated to see them freeze. Two nights of freezing cold and then we should warm up a bit.

and finally, after a week of rain, we have a little fall color...and some roses.

I've been out picking up pretty leaves, and taking pictures, moving more pots into the little greenhouse, and looking at all the leaves waiting to be raked...

...why, I hardly knew what to post!

The camellia has been simply covered in blooms.

These two were guarding the door. With cold weather coming, the gas company had their big red trucks out filling gas tanks today...

The truck driver keeps an eye on Weetie as she runs out barking with her bristles up. Eli, on the other hand, tucks his tail under and comes inside where it's safe. I had to pick up Weetie and bring her inside.

and here's another pair...

this was at 4:30 this morning! Never a dull moment!

Okay, I am off to sew a bit. I've started on three more of those silly dolls. There is another craft bazaar Nov. 17th. Neighbor Ann has asked me to go and share a table with her. I've bought myself a new hand saw and pack of sandpaper...just need to chop down another maple sapling! :)

Love,
Henny

Oh! for those of you interested in Shelby's jams and jellies...she gave me her recipe for Christmas jam, and a list of all the jams and jellies. I will post that tomorrow. Thank you!!

  2. Yes, freeze tonight predicted for us too. I thought about covering up my Geraniums which are still in full bloom, but have to say goodbye to them at some point :(
You've got your little greenhouse full !
Sweet fur babies, they give us so much love and entertainment.
    Hugs,

  3. You have quite a pack to take care of that early in the morning! Wondering if you ever moved that deer head to the fireplace?

  4. 4:30 is not a time of awareness around here, unless I am awake too early and can't go back to sleep, and then I still stay in bed. Your day starts early!
No freeze for us yet, even though we had snow.

  6. We had our first killing frost last week, so no flowers here really, but the rest of your pictures make me think of here today. Such a lovely day, sunny and mild. What I call bonus days, that come when I'm not expecting them. Boy oh boy you get up early. I like it to be light when I get up in the morning ;-) I did see your comment, they get emailed to me, so even if it is on a post months and months ago, I will see it.

  7. Hello dear lady...it's going to be a cold one here in the mountains tonight. I brought every plant I could inside. Sadly my zinnias were zapped by the frost 😔

  8. My old dog would always bark for the UPS man. Everyone else was a maybe. Soon as she heard that horn, it'd set her off.

  13. It's hard to see those flowers go by when the first frost gets them. So nice of you to give the zinnias another few days of life and color.

It's cold here too. A high of 36 yesterday and down in the 20's last night. Leaves are coming down and the great leaf raking has begun!

  15. Thank you for visiting my place, Henny, as that means I found my way to your lovely place; so happy I did. The opening photo of your Zinnias put a smile on my face. I love the bright and happy colours of these flowers. Your place is surrounded by Fall beauty. Your fur babies are so very sweet. How on earth do you keep Weetie so clean. =) I too, think, I will have to linger at your place a little longer. I'm off to make a cuppa, pull up a comfy sofa and have a little look around. Love your dolls, they are lovely. Hope you enjoy a most wonderful week.

  16. Your day sure starts early. In Summer I just might be able to get up at that hour but not now that it's so dark and dreary.
Your Camellia is so pretty; I didn't know they bloomed n in November!!
I'm looking forward to Shelby's recipe for that Christmas jam!

  18. Thank goodness I don't see 4:30 am as much as I used to. Now I sleep too much! Our weather is the same as yours right now I think. Two very dreary rainy days and then sunshine! I was so happy to see it!
