Snow on the peach tree

Explaining and apologizing keeps me busy lately, well, not just lately.

Been thinking about that big red barn I wished for, and actually, any kind of old barn would do. As long as it is standing, and sturdy enough to hold hay.

Here it is...that cold and snow we've been hearing about for over a week now...

buds on the snowball bush...
There's not enough sheets and blankets in the house to cover everything, so we'll just see what happens...

Sunday afternoon nap time for Poppy and Eli means a minute of peace and quiet.

Why, here they are yesterday when I  tried to sit down at the computer, which is on the desk right next to the bed...

Smokey too!

After supper last night I did spend an hour in the sewing room...
Ugh, this chair really needs new fabric on the seat. I will get that done soon!

It took exactly one hour to make these three pieces of bias tape...well, to stitch together, fold, press, and wind on cards. I had cut the strips earlier.
Got four aprons cut out, so now I can sew again.

Oh, I am so tickled to have three new followers. Thank you, Felicity, Jessi, and Stephanie. I'm sure some of you who read my blog never got a 'thank you'...please, just consider the source. I appreciate you all so very much. Never in a million years would I have dreamed of having 104 special friends!

Okay, I've had a nice long time here on my blog with no movement, or any noise in the house. How much longer could this peace and quiet last? Eli will be around nudging my elbow any minute now...he can tell time, you know.

Be back soon!

Love,
Henny

One more thing...Thank you for the comments on my bunny post. Guess I won't get around to replying to each, so, thank you!

  2. Henny you never need to explain or apologize for anything - you are such a wonderful blog friend and I just love your cozy house and happy little farm! It is always a delight to read your blog! Sometimes I think I would like to start a blog but I just don't know where to start with one or what I would write about. I even went so far as to sign up on blog-spot but then I thought why would anyone want to hear anything I had to say? How did you get started?

    1. Thank you Bonnie. Goodness, you sound like me. I still wonder why anybody would even look at my blog. My daughter Lynn (a mothers journal.com) has blogged for years, and about four years ago she said, Mom, I think you would enjoy a blog. She helped me set this one up...well actually she did all the work, then told me how to post and do different things. I remember telling her that I did not know how to begin. She said start with "herein I begin my blog", and that is exactly how I started my first post. I LOVE having this blog. Best of all are the blogging friends, like you, the sweetest best friends ever! Start you blog, Bonnie! I think you will love it.

  4. That's lot of bias tape. It is kind of fun to make, though, isn't it.
Poppy looks pretty popular as a sleeping pal.

  6. I sure hope you get your barn. I think they are the coolest of buildings. I know you would keep it immaculate and have fun, too. I'm hoping for a real potting shed this summer, not the portable one I had last year. I'm starting to look around. It would be my little get-away.:)That Eli sure loves his dad.And look at the Smokey buttin' in to their play-time. He's so cute.

  8. Good Evening, What cute photos of Poppy and Eli. I sure hope your plants and trees will be ok. Glad you could spend time in the cozy sewing room. We've had rain this weekend and I've enjoyed reading a mystery. God bless your night. xoxo

  10. I hope the latest blast of wintery weather didn't do too much damage to your flowers and trees.
I really like the fabrics that you used to make the bias tape, esp. the one on the right. Kind of an old fashioned print that I am fond of. Also, I like the fabric that surrounds your sewing table. Cute.

    1. I am afraid after the freezing weather this week, all the plants will be damaged. I like old fashioned calico fabrics too. Thank you.

  11. Eli tickles me....I'm sure he thinks he's the size of a Chihuahua :)
Our snow went away as soon as the sun return, keeping my fingers crossed none of your bushes in bloom were hurt !

  12. Judging by the bias tape you made I'd say that you are going to have some beautiful aprons made up before we know it. You do such beautiful work, Henny. You are a blessing!

  14. That's tough on you guys to get snow and cold at this time. Nothing for us to get a snow storm in June but the plants can with stand it as we grow plants zoned for the area.

    1. It really is, Red, and probably sounds pretty silly to you considering all the snow you have in the winter.

  15. I didn't know anyone made their own bias tape! What a hard job that sounds like. Cutting it must be hard and I can't imagine folding it. Eli sure is a huge dog and that white fur is so beautiful. I love seeing your flowering fruit trees because here in MN we don't have them till about a month or more from now. We got several inches of snow yesterday and some trees do have buds opening, but no flowers.

    1. Making bias tape is really fun and not as hard as it sounds. You can buy the little bias tape makers that you pull the cut strips of fabric through. It helps make the folds as you press with a hot iron. I think this crazy is going to do a lot of damage. Thank you Shirley.

  16. Beautiful shots of your trees and shrubs in bloom. I hope they all survived our snow event. The snow here is already gone and everything seems to have weathered the storm. Looks like a cold week ahead. Stay warm.

  17. Henny, we don't have snow but the temps dip way down at night. There were so many blooms on the peach and plum trees but I am afraid they will all be damaged and there won't be any fruit...again! My goodness, just look at all that wonderful binding. I need to get myself busy sewing but for the life of me, I just don't have the "want to"! LoL...not much room for Poppy with that sweet fur ball! I tell you, I just love your Eli. Smokey, too!

    Grace & Peace,
    Pam

  18. It is true love between Poppy and Eli! WOW, you make your own bias tape, and it is so beautiful.

  19. I love how Eli seems to think he's still a little puppy, up playing on the bed. He is so beautiful. Are you getting tired of hearing that? I am impressed with your handmade bias tape, that is very time consuming, but then everything that you do, you do with a perfect hand. I love visiting your blog . . . wish we lived closer and could be backdoor neighbors :)

  20. Sorry about the snow.

We have a Nor'easter coming! -sigh-

Your sewing room is so pretty!

Please, why do you have to comment a reply, on every comment left, on your blog entries??? Please, why? Do you go back the next day, to every blog you follow, to read possible comments, on your comment?

I don't do that. And I don't think most bloggers have to time, to do it, either. So I don't reply comment, in my own blog comments.

Oh once in a while, I do. But I have probably told the person, in an email that I did, and copied it, in that email.... So they don't have to go back to read through the comments on my entry.

Most of the time, if I have anything to say, I say it, in their blog. I put "Re: what you commented on my post..." And put a click-able link there, so anyone can click back and see, to which of my posts, I am referring.

Just wondering.... I wouldn't usually say anything, but you mentioned that you would not be able to go back and thank everyone, for their comment..... Sooooo.... I thought I'd ask. :-)

  21. Re: Your comment on my blog post.....

"Does the Full Moon have anything to do with Nor'easters" I don't know.

But I am "blaming" the Full Moon, for its *dreaded* "Full Moon Effect," which just might be bringing this huge snow storm!!!! ,-)

  24. A cozy time sewing and blogging with loved ones ( Poppy & Eli & Smokey) nearby is a very blessed time indeed. I have never made bias tape and never even considered it , so now you've opened up a whole new thing to consider that will help me with some of my sewing projects. ( as if I need even more projects to consider ! )

  25. Love seeing your sewing machine, reminds me of my Grandma's. Love it when a machine sets in front of a window like that.....just seems so inspirational! Hows your weather there?---we are getting alot of rain and it's awful chilly for here!

  28. Its such a shame to lose all those beautiful blossoms on your trees. Everything is in full bloom here, too, and the temps will be below freezing and even as low as 25f the next few days. I ran around taking pictures and picking blossoms for vases to rescue a few.
