More Holly and a Jewel update

Not much to post on this foggy, gloomy, wet day.

The Holly tree down by the pond stood out in the early morning fog.

Tomorrow the sun is supposed to shine again!

Bad new for little Jewel, I'm afraid. She is still missing and the scariest part is, the very next day another one of her chicks went missing. That leaves only six. There is a vicious predator lurking close by, stealing this little family one by one.

The six chicks we have left are staying locked inside their pen until this predator gives up and goes elsewhere to look for his meals. Little Jewel was a fighter, that's for sure. Why I've seen big Eli tuck his tail and move aside to let Jewel and her little family pass through.

On a cheerier note...another sprig of Holly.

A sunny day tomorrow will be nice. If only I could wave a magic wand and make these big brown wet packed leaves disappear...that would be wonderful. Christmas decorations and brown leaves somehow don't mix.

Guess I'll get busy and finish a Christmas apron I've been working on. Bedtime will be here before we know it! Hope to be back soon.

Love,
Henny

  1. Oh no, I was so sure she would show up again somewhere hidden away. It must be so hard to lose one of your own.

  2. Oh no, that's bad news if one of her chicks has disappeared also. Verrrry frustrating and sad.
    The holly is very cheery.

  3. So sorry to hear about your hen and chick. Is it only happening when they are out ranging or does it happen in the coop area, too?
Hawks can be persistent. Hope you can figure out what is going on.
    Have a blessed week. ♥

  4. I'm so glad you're keeping the remaining 6 chicks safely in their coop. Poor Jewel and poor little chicklet. On a more upbeat note... your Holly is so pretty!! Hope the sun shines for you tomorrow.

  5. Hi! I was hoping that jewel would return. So sorry for not better news. I love holly but I don't have any growing here. What is your Christmas apron pattern like? I am keeping my eye out for sales to make a reversible one. One for Christmas and the other side for something else! Nancy

  7. Such sad news, hope you manage to keep the rest of the little family safe. The holly looks beautiful on the dresser, would love to see the apron. I want to make some for my daughters. Take care.

  8. There are always predators around, here it is Buzzards and Red Kites along with the ever present fox population. Your holly looks wonderful, there is none with berries around here, I may have to treat myself to a small tree for the garden. I do make a wreath with Holly and Ivy and stick some little red beads in here and there.

  10. What perfect holly. And the sight of those neatly folded Christmas towels may inspire me to dig out the decorations.

  15. Still praying for you and yours, Henny; would like to think a person took her for their own, but there are varmints everywhere! Hope not a coyote, we have those here and they are the worst! Hugs and prayers to you! Terry

The sprig of holly is beautiful.
Hope you had your sunshine today. I'm hoping we see some tomorrow here. It's been 5 days now with no sun.

  17. Nothing says Christmas like a sprig of holly - they make such wonderful centerpiece accessories. I'm responsible for my club's Christmas luncheon decorations and holly will be a big part. So sorry to hear about the chicks' vulnerability. We have coyotes on our backyard mountain and I'm always worried when Archie and Boswell are outdoors.
