Still doing a little decorating

Maybe by Christmas I'll get it right. What needs to be changed here is the ribbon on the greenery. Next time I run to town I'll buy a spool of red ribbon and tie a bow. That would look better?

All this time I've been thinking it was the cedar that makes the best scent for the house, but after cutting these pine limbs, wow! it smelled like opening a bottle of Pinesol. A truck load needs to be hauled in here!

Same here. A red ribbon is what this pot of greenery needs. The idea of pine limbs came from Joyce at quiltednestantiques.blogspot.com. I love her decorating ideas.

I am trying my best to take it easy for a few days, hoping my back and leg pain will go away. Shuffling through these ankle deep leaves in the back yard, while the rake stands leaning against a tree is not easy.

This was yesterday while Eli was out in the back yard getting a little exercise, and while I sat on the bench wringing my hands and thinking about how I needed to be raking.

and looking up, waaay up into the tree tops I remembered when Poppy's Mother came to spend a weekend with us. When she arrived, her first comment about our place was, "I've never seen such tall old trees around a place". It's true. The trees are not the biggest but they surely are tall.

Really, look how these trees tower above the shed. Why, one of these tall trees could fall in the edge of the woods and still hit the house.

You may remember my post about the Hickory tree. Poppy says this tree would be a hundred feet tall.

This was around 7:00 am this morning. Fog along with a pink sky. Wonder what that means? Well, what a bunch of mixed stuff I've posted here...sort of tells you how my mind works lately. :)

Thank you for looking in. Hope to be back soon.

Love,
Henny

  1. I have to baby my back, it hates sweeping and raking. I leave the raking to Mac, I do the sweeping, very gently. Fresh pine boughs, I know they must smell like heaven.

    1. Raking is good exercise but maybe it is hard on our back. Poppy doesn't do leaves. He helped me once, gave up and said, I don't know you do this.

  2. We have some tall trees around our house also. I love the trees and the Farmer has been working hard to get the leaves out of our yard. He got on top of the house yesterday and blowed the leaves off. I love the pine decorations. I might have to go out and find me something to put in front of my hearth
    Love you

  4. I think Eli has the right idea about all those leaves-----just sit down in the middle of them, take it easy, and enjoy the sunshine.

I bet you are having the same weather we are----warm, warm, warm. Got up in the mid 60's yesterday and should get up near 70 today. Very cloudy though with predictions of rain tonight. It feels like spring-----Wait! maybe it IS spring and Jan, Feb, and March have slipped by me and it's time to start digging out flower beds and getting plants settled in early. Could be, you never know these days.

  5. Our day started with fog but the sky , where visible, was grey. Eli looks so comfy on his soft bed but I expect that his coat was full of little bits when he moved. I will be cutting pine, holly and ivy for the house at some point this week. First I will be putting the sewing room to bed for a little while, I am all sewed out and will be putting bew shelves up this week. I don't know what I will do when the walls are full.

    1. Oh Pam, Eli's underside was covered in leaves tangled in all that hair. It will be nice to have new shelves in your sewing room. Sewing rooms fill up quick, don't they?

  6. That should have been new shelves, more haste less speed.

  7. Continue to baby that back. The leaves will wait for you. Instead, try enjoying how fun they sound when you shuffle through them!
I think your swag and doorway is stunning.

  10. Your decorations are wonderful and for me the smell of fresh pine is a big part of Christmas. We don't have a tree this year but I have bouts and holly everywhere. And baskets of pine cones, all with red bows. Have a relaxing Sunday so all your aches can heal.

    1. Your decorations sound pretty. There are lots of pine cones here this year. I should pick up a basket full, Last year I went out looking for pine cones and could not find any fit to bring in. Thank you Cynthia.

I love your tall trees. We had similar trees on our land when we lived in Nova Scotia.
    Take care.

  14. Your house is looking very lovely, all decorated for Christmas. Those are very tall trees! We don't have any trees on our city lot but are surrounded by them. Very very tall pines that I'm always worried will fall on our house when we get a wind storm. ( I manage to find things to worry about, don't I!!)

    1. Oh listen, worry runs in my family. Any time it rains hard, or the wind blows, I lay awake worrying about a tree falling on the house. I should be called Worry Wart instead of Henny Penny. :)

    1. Thank you. I need to look up the spruce pine. Down home, southern North Carolina, we had the long leaf pines and the pine cones are huge. Visitors from up north would pay a dollar for one pine cone.

  17. Your greenery decorations are so pretty and will pop with a red bow! It is so hard when one is laid up and can't get the things done they would like to. Hope you get better soon. Looks like Eli has a relaxed attitude! Those are some tall trees you have there! Nancy

  18. Your greenery decorations look lovely! What would happen if you left the leaves for a while? Do you get much in the way of wind that might blow some of the leaves off the grass?

    1. Thank you Karen. It seems our leaves never blow away but more blow from the woods into the yard. I've made up my mind to forget the leaves for now. Actually I have no other choice. My back has been terrible today. I can hardly walk.

  23. Oh, girl, you take it easy! I really have to watch what I do or I will be flat on my back for weeks. I love the decorations and being raised in the Piney Woods of East Texas, I can attest to the wonderful smell of fresh cut pine. Nothing like it! I am allergic to cedar so pine is what my Mama always decorated with.

    Grace & Peace.
