A little talk and a few pictures

Andee drove down from Virginia yesterday and we spent the day together. So, I should have some pictures and a good post, but I don't.  I enjoyed being with her and forgot all about taking pictures.

My Mother used to call and ask me to come spend the weekend with her. She would say, can't you just leave work Friday evening and drive down. I did occasionally, but after working in Raleigh all week, I felt like there was so much I needed to do here. There was the housework, the cooking, and yard work that needed to be done.

The years go by so fast. I would give anything to spend one of those weekends with mama again. All that work I thought was so important was not important at all.

Looks like I have about thirty minutes here. Poppy got home from work a little before three, threw on his hunting clothes and headed for the woods.

Then Eli needed his afternoon walk. He did pretty good posing here for a picture. It gets dark early now, so there is not much time left after our walk for anything but fixing supper.

Good gosh! Would you look at the leaves? Looks like these leaves will be around at Christmas. Somehow I've pulled a muscle in my lower back or thigh...I can't tell which, but at times I can hardly walk. It hurts to rake leaves!

The camera caught the white guinea just as it landed on the fence.

Hard to believe this part of the yard was raked clean just last week! :(

Eli licks his ice cream bowl clean.  Poppy says, you won't have to wash Eli's bowl, just put it back in the cabinet. He is kidding.

Not much of a post so thank you if you are still here.

Hope tomorrow will be bright and sunny. Hope to be back soon.

Love,
Henny

  1. Oh that's funny... that Eli licks his bowl so clean, because it's the same here. Bracken can clean a stuck-on casserole so well that I do have to remember that it still needs a good wash. My Mom would be so absolutely horrified at me that I let a DOG lick out of my dishes.
I hope that pulled muscle gets better.... maybe cut down on raking for a day or so? It's hard to do that when the sun is shining. Here we are expecting more wind and rain.
I'm so glad you had a lovely day with your daughter ( as I did today as well).

    1. Oh, mama would have never eaten out of that bowl again. :) It was neat that we both had a day with our daughters. I look forward to those days.

  2. The Good Lord is telling you not to worry about the leaves. They have fallen before, your land is still beautiful and the worms will love you for leaving the leaves. No pun intended.
Sorry to hear about your back. Will pray for your quick recovery.
    Have a blessed week, Henny.

  3. Enjoy your time with Andee, it's what's important. We'll all be here when she's returned home, and you can tell us what a wonderful time you both shared. Wouldn't we all love to just have one last day with our dear mothers *sigh*.
Eli is such a beautiful boy, I'm always amazed at his brilliant white coat, such good care you take of him.
    Enjoy your visit Henny !

  6. That's a beautiful photo of Eli.
I have a hard time learning that lesson about work not coming before people. I agree that it's time to stop worrying about the leaves, and your soil will thank you for it.

  8. What a gorgeous dog Eli is! The bit of sunshine looks so nice in your photos, I feel like we have hardly seen it here lately. A lot of rain and wind, and more for tonight.

  10. One sign of a good day is when you're too busy too take pictures of it.
Did you notice that those bright red leaves gave Eli two red ears?
And I'm afraid it's your back that's the problem. For years I always thought I could either stretch the pain away (no.) or ignore it and keep on going (another bad idea). Now I have a herniated disc, and have learned to be careful - not an easy lesson.

    1. I had not noticed the red leaves on Eli's ears. It almost looks like little red hair bows. Marty, that sounds just like me...ignore the pain and keep on going. Thank you for telling me. I do need to be more careful.

Take care of your sore hip and back, Henny. Do you have a rice bag you can warm by the stove?

  12. Oh goodness Henny you do too much! Take it easy for a few days. As LindaG said don't worry about the leaves! Wonderful shots of Eli. Growing up my Dad had a dog. Being one of 10 kids everyone took a turn doing dishes. My Dad remembers one time he let the dog like all the dishes clean and put them back in the cupboard. His Mum commented the dishes were done so quickly. He explained to her what he did. Someone was up very late redoing all the dishes!
    Have a good day.

    1. Thank you Robin. That story about your Dad is so funny. Can you imagine doing that! The dishes probably looked clean! :)

  13. Sorry that should have been "lick" all the dishes!

  14. Such a beautiful dog! His fur is so lovely. It is funny how they lick the dishes clean. They don't waste any food.

Maybe just leave those leaves for nature to take care of. There are just too many leaves for you with that sore back.

  16. Don't worry about the leaves. Maybe the wind will just blow them all away. : )
    Hope you heal soon.

  17. See that is why you did not take pictures because it is better to be in the present than behind the lens of a camera. I am sure Andee enjoyed every minute of the day just being with her mom. I love you !

  18. That happens to me, having such a good time I forget to take a picture. Don't worry about the leaves. They will wait for you. And maybe a few will even blow away and you have that many fewer to rake!

  20. I soooooooooo agree on wishing I could spend time with my Grandma who raised me. Oh my what I would give to go home and see her and my Grandpa,,, whew I could almost cry thinking about. Spend time talking and laughing... Eli looks so pretty in the photos! Keeper loves ice cream too!

  21. Try putting ice packs on for 20 mins, then switching to a heating pad for 20 mins. Do this off and on. You can use a bag of frozen peas or similar vegetables if you don't have an ice pack. I've had surgery and fusions in my back, but this is what my doctor had me do before the fusions. Hope you get well.

  22. My father used to say, "seize this day, for it will never come again". True enough. Glad you had opportunity to spend the day with one of your sweet daughters.
