The State Fair is the only place I know where the crowds don't bother me. I love it!
That's Dorton Arena in the background. On the first day of the fair the gates open at 3:30. Shelby and I have never been on opening day. It was nice. Everything was fresh and clean and the foods smelled delicious. It was around 9:00 pm when we decided we had eaten about all the Fair food we could hold, so we started on the long walk to the car. We are always sad to leave and hope that we will have another year together at the State Fair...
My favorite ride, the merry-go-round! Shelby said, "we'll ride if you want to". I really did, but just couldn't picture myself climbing up on one of those hobby horses. That's Shelby in the green sweat shirt.
Another favorite of mine, the Bluegrass Bands...
And, of course, the sweet donkeys. I simply must get busy building a fence for my donkeys......
Wish I had enough of these Persimmons to make a pudding... Vicki?
The waterfall in front of Dorton Arena...
Okay, enough about the State Fair. It definitely was good to get away from the house for a few hours and especially good to laugh and talk and spend time with Shelby. Wish we had more time together.
Thank you for visiting.
Love,
Henny
Your photos are great! I also love fairs. Thank you so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda. I must go back and read more of your blog! Thank you for visiting and leaving a comment. Oh, there is nothing like a fair!
DeleteYour photos are wonderful. I would make you a persimmon pudding and give you some persimmons if I could get you to come and spend the day with me. I would love to go to the fair we usually have big chickens and are not able to go. I have not been to the state fair since I was in my early 20s. I am glad you and Shelby had a great time. Has Poppy got a dear yet? Frank got a doe today.
ReplyDeleteLove you
Vicki, thank you! You know I was picking at you about the persimmons. :) Dan is always saying, I wish Vicki would mail me a piece of her persimmon pudding. Listen, could you possibly go with Shelby and me to the fair next year? We would love being with you! Dan has not even seen many deer yet. Regular gun season starts today and he is at work. Tell Frank congratulations! Love you Vicki.
DeleteWhat a fun day out, it looks great making more memories to add to the wonderful memories of previous years. It doesn't get any better...
ReplyDeleteOh, it does make for good memories!
DeleteWhen I lived in Tulsa as a kid I loved the county fair and now we live in Massachusetts, just across the river from where the Eastern States Exposition takes place - kind of a county fair on steroids.
ReplyDeleteSome years we go just for the food but I always have to visit the barns with the animals.
That's about all we go for. I don't know why the food always smells so good at the fair!
DeleteOh I love a good fair! That carousel is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThe carousel! I knew there was a correct name for that. :) As kids, we called it the merry-go-round or riding the hobby horses. Thank you!
DeleteFun! I love a fair also, but my favorite is our little county fair. Our state fair is too huge, crowded, and hot and makes me claustrophobic!
ReplyDeleteAnd I think you should have ridden the carousel!
Oops! My reply to you Cynthia is below. I'm always hitting wrong buttons!
DeleteI wish I had! But, what if I had fallen off trying to get down! Of course that would have given us more to laugh about. There is no county fair here but we used to love the county fair down home in Moore County.
ReplyDeleteThere are country fairs of varying sizes around here, I like to visit them every few years! Funny, we don't buy much food, it always seems soooo expensive, but are sure to visit the barns and the Superdog show! Glad you had a fun day out with Shelby:)
ReplyDeleteThe food is expensive! $5.00 for NC Stat ice cream. $5.00 for fried dough. $7.00 to $8.00 for a fried onion! But since it is just once a year. :)
DeleteGreat photos. I think you are wise not to go on opening day.
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed weekend!
Thank you Linda. Lots of the pictures didn't turn out so good.
DeleteIt was! I want to go back!
ReplyDeleteLooks like great fun! Our state fair is a four hour drive and the traffic is horrid so we have not been there for years:(
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun outing! Have a great Sunday.
ReplyDeleteMom, I love your pictures! Funny we have some the same pictures. I love your carousel pictures! Love you!! Lynn
