A little Sunshine

Yesterday was sunny, Imagine that!! I didn't know what to do first outside, so I found myself in the driveway, standing and staring!  I am, after all, a member of the "standing and staring" club, right Lynn??  Does outside count too, Lynn?

I did get a few things done.  I  covered the hay rack in dog wire, so the goats will (hopefully) stop wasting the hay by pulling it all out at once.  I also cleaned the little goat barn.  Then I put fresh hay on the chicken house floor and in their nests.  Our chicken house has a dirt floor so I keep it covered with several inches of hay and add new hay as needed through the winter to keep it clean and warm.  In spring, after planting the garden, I rake all that used hay from the chicken house and put it between the rows.  That means no weeds and lots of earthworms!!

The garden is 24'x48'.  This was last spring and most of the plants were still small.

This is how the tomatoes grew.  I planted them too close .  I learn every year!!

I am so looking forward to gardening this year.  Guess what!  It has rained all day today and supposed to rain again tomorrow!  I'm not complaining.  I am very thankful for so many things.

Love,  Henny Penny

  1. Oh, Henny Penny, if only everyone could see your garden in person! It is so neat. Nary a weed. And I do mean nary!!! I want something like that. Maybe some day! And yes, you are really the mother of the standing and staring club. Andee and I remember well those days of your standing and staring off into space, rearranging stuff in your mind. We knew when to move out of the way. ;D I love you!!!

    1. Lynn, thank you. You always have the most beautiful gardens! You should see mine right now! It needs a lot of work, and it's time to plant potatoes and onions and cabbage...I think!! I love you! Mom

  2. Dear Henny Penny,
My box of bountiful, beautiful bonnets came yesterday! What a lovely pair of bonnets, I am astounded that you made an extra in the lighter yellow for Daphne! They are both quite "fetching", and I will take a picture in each this Sunday when they come to visit. You are a special, and generous new friend, and I have something in mind to send to you as well. Maybe it will feature a chicken. I am an artist, I don't recall painting a chicken before, but my cardinal that I did for my sister-in-law turned out well. You brightened my day yesterday, and I am smiling just to look at the darling bonnets.
Enjoy the first whispers of springtime in your garden!
    Love,
    Pam

    1. Dear Pam,
I'm so happy your package arrived, so soon!! Can't wait to see a picture of Daphne in her bonnet. Don't you just love the name "Daphne"! Pam, I love the way you write, I'm not surprised that you're an artist. I would be honored to have anything done by you! That is so exciting! YOU are the special one!! Thanks for letting me know you got the bonnets.
