UPS AND DOWNS

Hey dearest blogging friends,

Here we are once again in desperate need of a little sunshine...

Rain, rain, and more rain! Lately around here it's like looking at old black and white pictures. Yesterday, four doves sat waiting for their morning cup of birdseed.

Today, skies are even more gray with wind and blowing rain. Glad I noticed my old Crocs were full of rain water before slipping my feet into them. Nothing worse than cold wet socks.

On a brighter note...last Friday the 22nd. was Poppy's birthday. I was in Walmart and happened upon a big box of unusual masks. Couldn't resist this one...

Why, I've always said, Poppy and Eli kinda favor each other, see what I mean...

It's the profile! :)  Hopefully, Poppy won't mind my posting his picture in the Eli mask. He had just come home from work and was looking a little tired.

and on a sad note...

my precious little Heidi goat is not doing well. Heidi came to live with us in April of 2018. We have an appointment with the vet tomorrow at 2:00. Will let you know what we find out.

Oh, Poppy and I got our Covid vaccine last Thursday. We sure did! Around 8:30 am we turned off Hwy 401 South onto the Franklin County Airport Road and immediately found ourselves behind a good mile of cars; folks in line, waiting their turn...bumper to bumper we inched along...

at 10:30 am we pulled our car up between to two waiting nurses, each wielding a syringe fitted with a needle; one on Poppy's side, one on my side :(  It was over in an instant and we were then instructed to pull the car into the block of cars to wait our 15 minute safety period...to see if there would be any adverse reaction to the shot.

precisely at the 15 minute mark we were directed back onto the airport road; but in the opposite direction from whence we had come and given directions to get back to Hwy 401 going North.  However!!! Hwy 401 was backed up for miles and miles; traffic heading north from Raleigh, mixed with traffic from the airport.  We were stuck in bumper to bumper traffic for 3 hours! A traffic jam that made the local evening news. A total of 5 hours we sat in the car!

Here it is Wednesday morning...another wet, foggy morning. I was deep into my story about the vaccine last night when Poppy announced that he was ready for bed...that, "we have to get up at 4:00 tomorrow morning". So, I shut everything down. :)

Thank you for visiting...if you're still here.

I'll leave you with Weetie in her little hiding place...
where she eats her treats.
Love,
Henny

    1. Hey Willie. Good luck getting your shot on Saturday. I do not like needles and dread going for the second one. Wish one would have been enough. Heidi is having trouble standing. It's like her front legs are weak. Guess we will find out today. Appreciate the comment...as always.

  2. Morning Henny. The mask is just to cute. We've got lots of rain in Georgia right now too. Suppose to be sunny for the next 5 days after this rain passes through. I hope little Heidi will be ok. Well be praying for you both. Just awful when are babies get sick. Stay safe.

    1. Morning Judy. Seems like there has been a lot of rain for everybody lately. Rain and clouds! 5 days of sun sounds wonderful! Thank you. I'm hoping too that Heidi will be okay. She is such a humble sweet little goat.

  3. That mask is so funny! Jonathan has one that looks like Hannibal Lector's mouth when he's wearing his face cover in the movie Silence of the Lambs. It's kinda creepy when he wears it but he thinks its funny. I'm so glad you both got your shots! We can't get ours yet but maybe soon. Please tell Dan we said Happy Birthday! And please let me know how sweet little Heidi is getting along.

  4. Hey Diane. I just Googled Hannibal Lector's mouth. It is creepy and funny! Bet he gets a lot of laughs. I would be too self conscious wearing anything but a plain old mask. I've been meaning to email you and ask about Molly. Hope she is well and playful again. Will pass your 'Happy Birthday' along to Dan. Thank you.

  5. This has been a week for gray days. I sure hope the sun comes out again soon.
Poppy's new mask is hilarious. I'll bet it will bring lots of smiles to all who see it. Although the smiles are hard to detect under these darn masks.
I was just thinking how nice it was that you could get your vaccines in such an efficient manner... until I read about the ride home. Oh my goodness, that sounds awful.

  6. Glad you two got the vaccine, just not so good about the wait in and the traffic out. 5 hours! Better be the right
vaccine, right? Love the mask for Poppy. He and Eli are such buddies that it is fitting. Hope that Heidi will be OK.
Don't know anything about "cattle" type animals, so I will be looking to see what you find out. Dark and dreary in Ohio.
It gets me down constantly. And too cold to hardly get in an outside walk. Hope you get sunshine and a good vet report on Heidi. Lynn

  7. Thrilled that you were able to get the vaccine, must make you feel a little safer. That was quite the traffic jam I must admit. Lovely to see Poppy with the mask and always a joy to see Eli. Hope all goes well with Heidi at the vets.

  8. Hi,
OH MY.. what a traffic jam. I am always worried I will have the need to use the restroom in a situation like that, thankfully I have never been in a traffic jam like that.
Do you have to get a 2nd dose?
I hope you find out some answers regarding Heidi.

  9. Love the mask. Eli looks thrilled to be riding with Poppy. How sweet is that. I just want to wrap my arms around him. (Eli, not poppy. lol)
I sure hope little Heidi is okay and it's nothing serious. That face is just so sweet.
I'm sorry about the awful traffic jam. I sure hope you had some craft to keep you busy in the car. BUT, how wonderful to have your first shot. We can't seem to get any.
It's been snowing off and on all week here. This morning is big, fluffy flakes.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  10. 39 degrees and cloudy here this morning, but at least the cold rain has stopped. That's January,
I love the mask, and the profile shot. And speaking of shots, that was a LOT of time invested in getting yours!
We have appointments to get ours on SAturday, Feb. 6. Just hoping the supply of vaccine holds.

  11. That’s a terrible long time in the car but so worth it to get your shots. There are hardly any available down here in South Carolina. I hope your Heidi goat gets good news at the vet today. She’s such a pretty little girl. I love Poppy’s mask! I sent my littlest grandson a dachshund one so he and his dog can look just alike. My daughter says it’s his favorite.

  12. Oh Henny, I'm so happy to hear that you and Poppy got your vaccinations! It is worth the wait even though I know it was tiring. I am sorry to hear that Heidi is unwell. I remember when she came to live with you and how excited you were about her. I hope the vet can help her.

Happy Birthday to Poppy! I hope he had a wonderful day. His mask is perfect! What did Eli think of Poppy wearing a mask like him? It's funny that you said the world outside looks like an old black and white photo because that is just what I have been thinking. We had another snow last night and everything outside is just black, grey and white. You two take care! xx

  13. What a saga, Henny! My sweetie got his shot the other day in our local pharmacy, he was in and out in 20 minutes (after waiting the required 15 mins) - what a difference!

  14. Oh sorry to hear about Heidi - hope it isn't anything serious.
We could sure use a little sunshine too and a little less ice and snow too.
    Happy Birthday to Poppy.

  15. That's quite a story about getting your covid shot. Quite a traffic jamb.

  16. Belated birthday wishes for Poppy. That's a neat mask!
I can't imagine being cooped up in the car for 5 hours basically not going anywhere. That's my idea of he**.
I hope Heidi will be okay. And the bunny that wasn't looking good too. Mine is almost over the after effects of her stroke. For a while she was off her food but she's making up for it now.

  17. Love the mask! I hope your sweet Heidi will be ok! Here's wishing you some sunshiny days!

  18. Five hours in a car...that's just too much. So glad it's over but...I guess for the "booster" you will be doing it again? Wishes and prayers for your little Heidi.

  19. It's been dreary and lots of snow here!
I love the mask and I think Poppy looks cute in it! Happy Birthday to him!

  20. What an awesome mask! I'm glad you got your shots (I hope you don't have to endure the traffic jam when you have the next one). Poor Heidi. I hope the vet is able to help her.

  21. Happy Birthday to Poppy! I love that mask....it's so fun. I have seen some really ugly ones, but that one is great! Good job picking it out Henny! Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about you two having to be in the car all those hours. That's awful. Hope you haven't had any bad symptoms from your shots. Do you have to go back for a second one sometime? I hope whatever is wrong with your Heidi, can be fixed! I love all those little critters and get so sad when they get sick.

  22. The mask is too funny! But, why not?! So sorry to hear about Heidi. I do hope the vet can help her and she's feeling better soon.

  23. I am so sorry you guys had to spend 5 hours in your car! That is such a long time. Will you have to go back for a second shot? I hope either that you don't, or if you do that it you don't have that long in the car.

I do hope little Heidi just needs a little boost from something. Some vitamin or something simple.

  24. Well that mask is hilarious! Sure a resemblance to Eli. Although masks like that of mouths kind of creep me out when I see them on people. Lucky you to get your vaccinations. But phew, that is a lot of time in the car to get it. It will be about June when we get ours. Hope your little goat is going to be okay.

  25. I hope you had some stitching or a good book while you waited all those hours. The mask is fabulous; it made me smile. Hoping your Heidi will be okay.

  29. Hi Henny- So glad you've been Vaccinated- things are bad there in the USA and the UK. Our Vaccinations won't start until March or so...yet were doing well here with no new cases in the past fortnight. Stay well there. Regards. KEV.

  33. Weetie is so cute! :) Congrats on getting the vaccine, though 5 hours in the car...not so much fun! Happy Birthday to Poppy! I love that mask he has! :)

  34. omg..All of your pics are sooooo..cute!! Poppy and Eli's profile is a classic...Frame it. Love the mask, too..at least some fun and humor to the masks..my hub has a couple of interesting ones, too..Me..I hate them with a passion, as I have allergies and they cause me some issues. Your home is always so pretty and cozy, looking. Thanks for a brighten of the gloomy day..(not to mention disappointment that we have rain rather than snow).
