Garden plants and things

Wonder how long it will take me to wear out this pair...

Boots from Bass Pro Shop. Rubber boots are just the best thing to wear, working around here. So easy to slip on and off and leave on the porch, and besides that, I love boots!

Best too for things like washing the little greenhouse, which I finally got around to doing...
Looks much better now. It was covered in red dust from the road.

I'm about to get all the potted plants moved inside the garden...
for winter keeping. Raking leaves and adding them to the garden and tucking them around the pots help keep them through the cold months.

Small pots and newly rooted cuttings I put inside the greenhouse.

You may remember the "Fairy Rose" I dug up a few weeks ago that was smothering in weeds...
All of them have really come out and this one has a bloom. The blooms are pink but this one shows up as white. You know, I wound up with six of these Fairy Rose bushes.

Knockout roses are blooming again too.

Three small fig trees

The teeny tiny garden looks mighty empty now but I suppose it needs a rest...
A few more wheelbarrow loads of leaf mulch and it will look all warm and cozy for the winter.

Gosh, if you want to see time fly just sit down at the computer! Here it is bedtime again. Hope to be back here real soon.

Oh, speaking of warm and cozy...
When I opened the curtains early yesterday morning, Eli was curled up on the cot on the back porch.

Love,
Henny

  2. Oh gosh, Eli is just a big ball of poofy cuteness! I love that shot! I am a BIG fan of rubber boots. Same as you, they sit by the door and they are so easy to slip on and off, yours are cute! I have a pair with insulating inserts for the winter too! I go through them quite fast though, every few years I need to replace them. Your roses are so pretty...and I envy your greenhouse! :)

  3. I just couldn't do without my rubber boots. The days don't seem long enough to finish all the jobs that need doing before winter sets in. I love the roses!

  5. I love those boots and I bet they will last you a long time too. Your greenhouse sure does look shiny clean and so neat. Those Fairy Roses are beautiful and they really bloomed fast. That does not even look like Eli! It looks like a soft and cuddly, furry blanket - but then I guess he kind of is one sometimes!

  7. Hi Henny- You certainly have been busy- the Greenhouse looks so neat and tidy- guess you'll soon be battening down for the Winter Snow Season...very hot here today on this Spring day- something tells me this coming Summer is going to be particularly hot. My Partner (Chris) is away to China on Monday - for two weeks...I'm hoping Chris will be OK...I'm not going as I do not like long flights and I'd rather go elsewhere than China. All the best. KEV.

  9. Boots! Is that the only colour they come
    in...Bit drab! :(. HeHe! I don't possess
garden boots! Though l've seen loads (pink)
ones, l'd like to buy..but won't wear them!

I was just watching Gardeners World last night,
and Monty Don was getting his plants back into
the greenhouse for winter..it was the last episode
out of 32..he'll be back next spring..! :).

And..It looks like Eli has found a nice spot in a
bit of sunshine..we've a better forecast for the
    weekend to..bright spells..thought Halloween was
in a couple of weeks..! ;).

  10. I have greenhouse envy! Nothing better than a new pair of rubber boots! The short ones I wear every day to do my little chicken chores have split at the sides. It's time for new ones, but they'll soon be replaced with winter boots (ughhh)! -Jenn

  11. Oh, it's sad to say goodbye to summer! This may be our last pleasant weekend before it gets pretty cold so maybe what we get done this weekend will be it except for future leaf pick up.

  12. It's always a treat to visit you. Your new boots look great and I know you'll enjoy them. Too hot for boots down here. Although, having a nice pair for the few times I need them would be nice. I have a pair that were my husbands that I where in emergencies, and they are too big and uncomfortable, but do the trick of stomping down a path in high growth in the back of property. ;-) ~ Love your little greenhouse and seeing all of your growing goodies. Have a wonderful weekend ~ FlowerLady

  13. I need a new pair of boots, too. I have never owned a pair of cowboy boots and we are getting ready to hit the road in an RV for part-time living so I am thinking of cowboy boots. lol I need one without too high of a heel on it though.
Your greenhouse looks great! Have a wonderful weekend. xo Diana

  14. I'm not a fan of rubber boots. I don't recall ever possessing a pair, so I don't know where my dislike for them comes from. I can abide by boots that are calf-length, and even then I find them too long, ankle boots are easiest. But the rubber itself just seems too cold or hard. Your greenhouse chores sound exciting. Will you be placing the raked leaves inside the greenhouse? Don't you fear attracting rodents snuggling down for winter? Wait, how cold is winter in N.C? Perhaps mice don't hibernate in your area. Yesterday morning, a little mouse whizzed past us as we were climbing into the van. I have no idea where it came from, but it dashed across the parking lot and stopped momentarily to hide by the wheels of a neighbouring car, before zipping off again. Poor little thing, but, no! (Although Tasha Tudor's appreciation of them is a personal goal) Well, the roses in bloom are very pretty and your little garden is very tidy and clean-- everything on your property is so well-cared for. Glad to drop by for a visit! Blessings!

  15. Good gardening takes an awful lot of work. Your work has paid off with many great plants to put away in the fall.

  16. I love your rubber boots Henny, and certainly a "must" for all those wet gardening chores, which seem unending this time of the year.
Your greenhouse looks sparkling clean and ready for it's winter inhabitants :)

  17. Your garden is always so neat and clean . . . weeds haven't got a chance. I wish that I could say that about mine, LOL

  18. Love the boots and the fig trees! Are they Celeste figs, Turkey figs, ?? We have 2 very large fig trees here. And they produced an enormous amount of figs this year. We love fresh figs but can only eat so much... thus, friends and neighbors get the extras.

  19. I love your greenhouse. I always wanted one but do not have space for it. I am also trying to get my garden put to bed for the winter. Rain, wind and cold have made it difficult, but there is hope still. I love gardening in spite of it all! I can see that you do, too!

  20. Eli is so adorable. I saw one of his breed at work the other week. I was thinking of him.

  21. Those are some heavy duty boots! If you were here you would have been able to use them today. It started raining mid morning and is still raining tonight! Our roses have made a comeback in the last week or so, too. They seemed to perk up and bloom prolifically as soon as the weather cooled off this week.

  22. I need a pair of those boots! It's time to winterize the plants for sure. I have a feeling that winter is not that far away and people are talking it's going to be bad this year. I don't know about that, but I do know fall is not lasting long enough for me- summer hung around way too long!

  23. I have a pair of Muck Boots that are much like yours. Great for wet weather and snow.
You are doing well with your plant propagation.

  24. Your greenhouse is a wonderful thing. I think your plants will be happy there!

  25. Oh, Eli - what a sweet snuggle bunny!!
All your gardening for winter looks so nice! We're not quite there yet, when we put things inside. Oh, HP, could you please do a blog post about HOW you root new plants off of existing plants? We have zero success doing that, and I'd love to root some of my fig, and some of my roses. Please? Thank you so much! You have such a nice green thumb!

  26. Oh I do like your boots!! It would be great to have a green house!
    Eli found the perfect spot!!

  27. Henny I think I need to borrow your boots...that is if you do not wear them out by spring :)! Your flowers are still looking beautiful. Love your fairy roses. We are too cold here for moving plants into greenhouse...mine will come into our garage and then we hope for the best! Enjoy your fall days. Have a wonderful week. Hugs!

  28. Love that little greenhouse, a perfect place to cozy up your plants. Eli, just chilling, so sweet. We should all just chill like that once in a while don't you think. I have winter boots, with tractor tread soles. I would love to have a need for greenhouse/chicken coup boots though...ah....maybe someday....Until then I enjoy visiting with you in your lovely greenhouse.

  29. I love roses, and yours are a cheery site, but so is Eli all snuggled up enjoying a snooze
