On one of those extremely hot days early last week, suddenly a cloud came up and while the sun was still shining brightly, that cloud opened up and poured down rain, right through the sunshine.
I said to Poppy, as we walked out on the porch to watch the rain, "I bet there is a pretty rainbow out there somewhere, but we would never see it, under all these trees".
But...to my surprise, the rainbow found it's way through the trees, right into our yard...
Such a strange sight, I could not believe my eyes!
and speaking of strange sights, look who hitched a ride up to the garden, supposedly to help out...
adding all that extra weight to my work basket.
wasn't long before he moved to a more comfortable spot.
The flowers along the fence inside the teeny tiny garden are blooming and there are bees and butterflies and all sorts of strange bugs...
my favorite spot in the garden...
Poppy asks, "why do you take so many pictures of the same thing".
"well, it's just hard to stop".
did you notice the long skinny wasp type bug on the sunflower leaf?
We cleaned up dead fallen maple tree and when Poppy pushed over the stump...
he upset this little frog's home. Can you find him?
I mean, this little guy was living in a frog cafe, surrounded by all sorts of insects. We carefully placed an old shingle over the hole and left him alone. Hope to be back here soon.
Love,
Henny
HI Henny- always enjoyable to read about your garden and pets...haven't seen a Frog here in ages- sometimes after rain you can here them- but not always. Healthy to have Frogs. Cheers. KEV.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed the pictures of the wildlife, little Kermit was hard to find, adapted to his surroundings as to go unseen. GOD even made the creatures Awesome. Beutiful futterblys, on the healthy tall Sunflowers.Have a good weekend.
ReplyDeleteWell..Yesterday broke ALL records over here, heat wise..
ReplyDeleteHighest ever..39.1 Previous was 36.2..so yes, it was hot,
hot, hot..I enjoyed the left over rabbit from Sunday, but,
had to eat it indoors, to hot outside, even under the umbrella!
Even the trains were running slow, as the railway tracks were
buckling..so, very much a stand still..silly people swimming in
rivers, lakes, and drowning...The river Thames is one of the most
dangerous river to swim in, claimed three lives..! :(.
The flowers look lovely to..and the butterflies..that are...
Swallowtails, if l'm not mistaken, they are large, colorful
butterfly, in the family Papilionidae, and include over 550
species...Though the majority are tropical, members of the
family and inhabit every continent except Antarctica....! :).
And..Smokey looks lovely..what is it with cats and boxes and
baskets..any opportunity, to get in the way..their in..Bless
them...I~LOVE~PUSSY~CATS...! 😼 🐾🐾
Just lunch time over here..just gonna sit out on the patio,
with a few cold meats, crispbreads, and a nice iced jug of
fruit juice..! Perhaps Fudge and Flossie will pop round and
join in...Purrfect..!!! =(^..^)=
AND..Talking of Rainbows...Remember this from...1970..!

Lyrics....
Rainbow, Look me up look me down, rainbow,
You were fun to have around
I was dreamin', Of the love I had to share,
Never thinkin', You were here you were there
Not a word, not a sound,
Could see or even feel the ground
A pot of gold, I was sold,
By the way you let it fly...
(and there's more)..
OH! That rainbow is just for you!
ReplyDeleteLovely sunflowers! And I love how you restored froggie's home. :)
Have you found your pot of gold on your property yet?!? OH, Smokey is a darling! -Jenn
ReplyDeleteYour very own rainbow! I'd say that's a very good sign! Your flowers are all so pretty. Every time I plant sunflowers, something, I'm guessing a bird, bites off the whole bloom and just leaves it laying on the ground. So frustrating. Glad you were able to save the little frog's home.
ReplyDeleteHello! Sorry to bother..but l think you'll find
Deleteit's squirrels biting off the heads..and, l think you'll
find help on line..just Google..'protecting Sunflowers
from squirrels'.
haha Frog cafe. :):) I love your little piece of heaven. That rainbow was so different, what joy. Seems you need a bigger garden basket . LOL. Cat's do entertain us. Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute post! Y'all sure do have a lot of fun on your place! Thanks for sharing and tell Poppy, nature is ever changing and you aren't taking pictures of the same thing since it changes! LoL I do the same thing. I have so many pictures of "the same things"!
ReplyDeleteGrace & Peace,
Pam
Aww I love Smokey laying in the basket! He is so handsome. We have tiny little frogs like that. Love you!
ReplyDeleteI loved this happy post. The rainbow was beautiful and I believe it was sent just of you into your beautiful oasis. The flowers are so pretty and Mr. Frog looks stunned that his home was disturbed. I'm glad that you made it safe for him again.
ReplyDeleteI sure miss our Frannie kitty since she passed last month. She and Smokey look a lot alike. He looks very content.
I hope you have a wonderful Friday.
Blessings,
Betsy
Best. Rainbow. Ever. :-D
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are so pretty and I love the sunflowers. I love seeing rainbows and lucky to live where I can see them all the time and once in a while I can see double ones.
ReplyDeleteOh that's sweet about the frog! We have one living next to our front steps and he is totally camouflaged! I put an old pot over a stone for him so he could have a little home! :) The rainbow is awesome, I've never seen one in my backyard before, one in a million!! And look at Smokey! Adorable, one of our cats, Leo, likes to get into boxes and baskets and anything really. If there was an old pizza box hanging around, he'd be sleeping in it, lol...we call him "Hobo Leo". It's SO nice to see butterflies, my flowers are JUST starting to bloom this weekend and I'm hoping to see more of those lovely pollinators!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful experience, sun shine and rain and the rainbow all in one spot.
ReplyDeleteAlways a joy to visit and see the little creatures in your garden. The butterflies particularly were a real delight to see.
ReplyDeleteYour beautiful home is welcoming to so many creatures from human, to furry, to feathery, to fluttery, and even to the scaly little frog . . . I love how you welcome them all and try to not disrupt their way of life. That's you in a nutshell . . . pure love and kindness. Your home is a paradise to all that visit. It's simply beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWow! That rainbow knew right where to come down just for you.
ReplyDeleteSmokey knows how to deal with these hot, muggy days. Just lay there like a lump and let someone else do the heavy lifting!
Love your pictures, your rainbow, your Smokey! Such an entertaining blog you have Henny. Lucky you....rainbows....rain drops.....sweet kitties! And beautiful flowers everywhere!
ReplyDeleteThat rainbow! What a blessing! Goodness gracious what a special surprise that is.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your stories and the pictures... all the pictures are lovely as usual.
How nice to get a rainbow right in your back yard!! It is beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are gorgeous.
I did see the little frog.
We have three of them living in the water feature that Ken made. They are green. They just showed up one day.
That was a very nice thing you did for the frog. I'm sure she appreciates it. Phil
ReplyDeleteaww - that was kind to the frog :)
ReplyDeleteYour photos are lovely, esp. the gorgeous butterflies on your sunflowers. This dry summer has killed off so much of our growing stuff, and our being gone for a good chunk of July didn't help either.
Your rainbow is stunning! I expected leprechauns to dance out!
Your Zinnias are lovely and the Butterflies are gorgeous. Mostly we have the Cabbage White Butterflies not the more colourful ones.
ReplyDeleteLove your rainbow!!! And your cute little frog.
That is a remarkable rainbow! And the rest of the post? Butterflies, flowers, kitties and frogs, Oh my! :-)
ReplyDeleteI see the frog! Your flowers are beautiful and the rainbow is amazing! We have lots of trees here too and always miss the rainbows.
ReplyDeleteI've seen a rainbow like you saw. it's pretty unnerving to be standing right beside it.
ReplyDeleteThat rainbow through the trees is spectacular. I don't think I have ever seen anything like that AND you captured it!! Love all your pictures--specially the kitties!! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteThank you for the walkabout your garden. The frog was a special treat.
ReplyDeleteWOW, what a gift for you that rainbow was, right there in your own gardens. Great photos, and we can't help but keep shooting when there are butterflies and flowers, you see different things when you edit them and some are wonderful surprises.
ReplyDeleteHave a fantastic weekend ~ FlowerLady
Rainbow blessing! How moving and strange to see it shining through the trees. It really looks like something out of a fairytale. Poppy's question made me laugh, because I think, we all do the same! Those sunflowers deserve the attention, though. And the butterflies--- holy moly, are they huge. I've noticed them around here this summer, and for a second I think it's a little bird who just flew by... Adorable Mr. Smokey, but that frog is a close contender! Great post Henny Penny! P.S. I know I've asked about them before and they weren't doing so great, but I'm wondering if the Rose Of Sharon is surviving this heat? Stay cool : )
ReplyDeleteLoved everything about this post. So much colour, beauty and SMOKEY. xo
ReplyDeleteHe seems to be quite the character and I love him from a distance. Your landscaping is so pretty and love the little paths. I did spot the frog. We have one here daily living in a birdhouse. lol
Henny, your blog posts are like sweet candy for the eyes... in the form of pictures AND words. How I love to visit. Thank you for bringing cheer into my day today. Love, Andrea xoxo
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sunflowers
ReplyDeleteThe sunflowers and monarch are beautiful. How sweet of yall to try and save that little froggie's home..Precious post. Enjoyed. Thank you.. Have a blessed rest of weekend.
ReplyDeleteYou have the most interesting yard! We had a stormy night last week and when i went out in the sunroom in the morning to let the dog out there was a tiny green frog hanging on inside of the glass. Not sure how he got in as we had closed things up, and he was very happy to have a little help back out. Your little toad is so cute. I bet he was blinking his eyes at you when the stump disappeared over his head!
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteThank you, thank you for the bug bite bath remedy. I will do that if I get attacked again by those darn deer fly.
We had a fun little getaway. I am always happy to be home. My garden is doing well, I will be picking green beans today.
I just loved that little toad. Oh my goodness what a sweet thing.
The rainbow is amazing!
Have a blessed new week,
Carla
I'm the same, I take a million photos of the same thing....I think we just see so much beauty in nature, it's hard to stop!! I need to get my camera out there and snap some photos to share with my readers....sadly my blog suffers in the summer months!
ReplyDeleteYou captured a beautiful moment when the rainbow found its way into Henny Penny Lane. I love the touches of red! Just wonderful! Talk about not wanting to leave!
ReplyDeleteLove your little frog! The rainbow is a miracle of course, but it knew where to shine! on Hennie's little farmette. Beautiful photos and summer is plodding right along. I always love my visits to the blog. Love Terry
ReplyDeleteYes, I found the baby! Toads/frogs are just so cute. I always love having them around. You got some lovely, lovely shots of the butterflies on the sunflowers. I LOVE those.
ReplyDeleteright smack dab in the middle of your pot of gold a beautiful rainbow.I am glad you got a picture of it. Lovely. This is a variety I believe of Queen Annes Lace, this one is done blooming for year, and now it looks like the one in the header. The ones which are still in bloom look like QAL, however there isn't the dark little circle in the middle. I captured one last year which had gone to see, brought it home and sprinkled it in the garden, so I didn't know it wasn't a true QAL, but it is still lovely to be sure. Thank you for stopping over..:)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful butterflies on the sunflowers! You did find some great surprises!
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful pictures and while I love them all-I love your sweet kitty pictures the best. Those are the kind of cats my gramma always called 'bluies'. xo Diana
