Henny Penny Gone AWOL

This is Lynn, Henny Penny's most troublesome child.  Maybe I am not really as troublesome as I think, but have you seen my mother's fabric room???  Have you seen that closet full of color coordination?  Have you seen her folding skills?? Mama is a Virgo.  She is neat as a pin.  Everything is folded, ironed, sorted, color-coded, and done so efficiently and with such love!  I, on the other hand, am an Aries.  I have trouble understanding why anyone would instinctively close a drawer.  You might need something out of it again!!

Zodiac signs aside, she is the way she is, and I am the way I am, but we love and adore each other more than words can say!  We are two parts of a trio.  My sister Andee is the third part, and dang it, she's a Virgo!!!  I can't win.  My sister has had her share of frustrations from me as well.  Just ask how many straight pins she stepped on after I decided back in the day that using straight pins was a good way to put skirts on hangers.

From the time of my first memory of sitting in my beautiful mother's lap, watching her lovely face,  looking at her neat, beautiful handwriting, I wanted to be just like her.  Alas, even in spite of my chaotic ways and, according to her, needing to clean up "giblets" of paper I'd left all over the couch, I did pick up a lot of Henny Penny by way of osmosis.  She taught me well!

Why am I here on her blog?  Henny Penny and Poppy had a bunch of rain last week!  They had 5-1/2 inches all at one time.  It somehow affected the internet all around where she lives and the internet is not expected to be up again until about Tuesday!  Henny Penny is worried that all her readers have "given up" on her.  Doesn't that sound just like her?  Can you hear her saying that?

I thought I'd drop in and ease the mind of each person who has given up on her.  :)  She will be back.  My dear mama -- she is exactly all she seems.  Making play houses in the woods.  Doctoring animals.  Somehow keeping the house clean, cooking, being kind, sewing, all at the same time without missing a beat.  I write this from a room that looks like it could be the scene of a thrift store bag sale.

I am partly kidding there.  It is a mess, but I am rearranging my STUFF.  I like for things to look the way mama makes them look.  For me it is a conscious decision.  It takes work to choose it.  My mom, however, is just that way.  Bless her.

In the photo above are my four children and me.  Left to right:  Daniel, Michaela, Lynn (mess maker), John, and Joseph.  These are four of Henny Penny's five grandchildren.  She is the best mama and grandma in the world!!!

Your Friend,
Lynn

PS -- Feel free to comment here to Mrs. Henny Penny.  When she returns, I know Mama would enjoy reading whether or not you'd given up on her.

  1. No giving up so easily here :)
Yes, she's missed, but I'll be here when she returns, no worries there !
Your momma is a special lady, a treasure, kind and true, salt of the earth type, and happy she shares her world with us here in Blogland.
Thank you for the update Lynn, it's obvious that in spite of your differences your momma is very, very special to you :)
    Hugs,
    ~Jo

  2. What a lovely post, Lynn. Your mom is such a sweetheart and we all love her. She's so humble about her many talents and so gracious in her comments on my blog( and I'm sure the other followers too).
Thanks for letting us know why Henny Penny will be gone for a few days.

  3. Oh, I would never give up on our dear Henny Penny! I surely did enjoy Lynn's special post. What fun it would be to have her write as a guest more often.

  4. Thank you Lynn. I had just discovered your Mama's blog a couple of days before her last post, read backward quite a bit, and loved it all. You are so lucky to have such a wonderful mother. I'm a Virgo, too.

I was taught to hang skirts on wire hangers with straight pins. Can't remember ever dropping any! Mom taught me to pin the waistbands onto the top slanted part of the hanger, that way it wouldn't slide together and cause wrinkles. Everything had to be ironed back then, and my Mom was a fanatic about that. I could write a book! I never thought about zodiac signs - if Virgos are so particularly organized and neat, then that can't apply all the time, because my Mom was a Cancer! And she wasn't at all like the description of that sign. Anyway, I'm happy to meet you and I'll be checking your blog, too, while I wait for your Mama to get back on line. I'm really old, so I could probably be your Mama's Mama!!!

  5. Give up on Henny Penny??? Never!!! We know she will be here when she can and if she is not here it's because she is busy with all the many activities she has on their little farm or some other good reason. But, I sure do appreciate you letting us know she is okay Lynn because we sure don't want her to be sick or anything like that. You are so sweet to write such a loving post about your Mama! Something tells me you are just like her in many ways. You have a beautiful family Lynn and one I am sure both you and your Mom are proud of. Thank you for letting us know she is okay and please tell her that friends understand these things and she should not fret over it!

  6. Hasn't been long enough to give up. I still have people in my blog roll, that haven't posted in 2 years or more. Every once in a while they pop in.
I take it everyone is okay, praise God for that.

  7. Thanks for the update! Hope the pond water didn't creep up the steps of the house and create natatorium. 5 1/2 inches all at once is a world of water!

I figured that Henny had just gotten an idea about a new addition to the teeny tiny farm and was hard at work bringing it into fruition. Tell her not to work too hard-----things will still be there tomorrow, or even the next day, to be dealt with.

  8. Not that easily. She's like an old friend to me that I have yet to meet. I hope all is ok after so much rain. I am picturing Smokey dashing about in rubber boots now. Give her my love and tell her I've been almost a month without posting and I have no excuse. ;-)Thanks Lynn.

  14. Thanks for letting us know about your Mom's internet woes. We will be here when she returns.

I'm afraid I'll never be a 'have-it-all-together' kind of girl. I've seen pics of your Mom's creative space and it is awesome.

You my dear, look like a sibling of your children, not their mother.

Have a wonderful summer ~ FlowerLady

She really has a way with words doesn't she? And of course, so do YOU! Anyway, we're all hanging in here until your return...so don't worry about that in the least. 17. Thank you, Lynn, for the update on your Mama! I daresay, you are not a trouble maker at all, dear one!

Melba, you have the sweetest daughter! I bet she takes after her Mama more than she thinks! Now, to the business at hand! Don't ever think you will lose readers because of some silly ole internet troubles! Reading some of the comments, here, I get the feeling we all sit and wait patiently, for one of your down home posts! I hope your internet gets fixed soon!

    Grace & Peace,
    Pam

  20. Thanks for the update on your mom, Lynn. I'll never give up on her; she amazes me and entertains me at the same time. I hope all is well on Henny Penny Lane by now and that your mom and Poppy didn't have problems with flooding and her animals are all safe. You and your mom both have a way with words. Thanks for sharing your family with us and letting us know what's going on.

  21. Well..Here l am..ALL behind again..ALL behind..
Must be these tight pants/trousers..Willie! You
    don't wear trousers..! Well..not any more..! :).

    Ah! Virgos..I'm a Virgo..And, yes, a typical Virgo..
My character, personality, just falls in line with
    the triads of a Virgo...
Strong..Virgos are very good at masking their emotions...
Cheerful..Once a Virgo enters your life, everything around
    you gets a little better...
    Loyal and Passionate...
    Observant...
    Perfectionists...
    Dominating...
    Sensitive...
So..there you have it..best of the best..! :).
    I have a personal saying...
"I'm the best there is, the best there was, and
the best there ever will be"..!

And, as for giving Mum up..I don't think so, at
least there's some previous lovely posts to fall
back on..I've got to keep in touch, 'STILL' waiting
for Poppy to shoot a turkey..HaHa! Bless him...! :).

Must get back and read some previous comments, usually
read them first..end of the queue to~day, as l've always
    been a leader, not a follower..! Bless!x

    1. HeHe! Me again...A few Internet stories come to mind....

"Have you got the address of the butter website?"
"Yes, but don't spread it around."

Why do beavers spend a fortune on the Internet?
They never want to log off...

I am often asked, "Is Google a man or a women?"
My simple answer is:-It's a woman because it won't
let you finish your sentence without making a suggestion..

I use the internet to tell me what the weather's like.
      How do l do that?
I carry my laptop outside and if it gets wet, I know it's
      raining! :o).

      That's it..Ciao! Ciao! :o).

  22. Lynn, thank you! It's funny how bloggers grow into a community of friends. We get used to catching up with one another and are always concerned when someone stops posting. You should write a blog too!

  24. Sorry to hear...too much rain can be "too much" in alot of ways. Enjoyed your writing and will check out your blog. Your Mom sounds perfect..as do you, too. I am more on your scope..a wannabee tidy chic...lol

  25. Can't wait for your mama to be back, Lynn... Have missed hearing from you, but you look wonderful! Love Terry

  26. Wow...that's a LOT of rain! I also live in NC...not far from her...but we had nothing like that here. I just want to mention that I am also a Virgo (although I don't put much stock in birth signs) and my organization skills are NOTHING like your mama's! You have a wonderful way with words like her though, and how nice it was for you to post on her blog. I am in awe of her lovely homestead and always find it interesting what she is up to. I do hope her internet returns soon...what did we do without it??

  27. I love this, and i love that you would do it for your mama, Lynn. I look forward to her return — and the photos i imagine she has taken to bring us up to date on ALL. THAT. WATER. Now i am going to contemplate what my daughters might write about me if they took over my blog for a day!

  28. I've been AWOL too so I completely understand....there's so much to do and only so many hours in teh day....sigh!

  32. I'm so glad to be blogging again and catching up on your blog. Please ask Lynn to start blogging again at A Mother's Journal. I know she's busy creating and filling her Etsy store. It's just that hers is my most favorite blog ever, and life's a little less bright without her sharing there.

  33. :0 Of course we didn't give up on her! :)
