We are back! and gifts from Cousin Pat

Can you believe it! Poppy and I are back in business!!! We have our Internet back. Turns out, on top of everything else, our modem was bad so we had to wait until late Monday for UPS to deliver a new one.

Anyhow, that 5 1/2 inches of rain last Thursday was unbelievable. Wish I had pictures to show you. No damage done but the little pond filled so quickly, the water flooded the spillway and flowed over the dam. The chairs on the teeny tiny pier were standing in water up to the top of the seats, and a mountain of leaves, being pushed by the gushing rain water, slammed into the little footbridge so hard, it turned the bridge up on it's side.

Oh well, all is back to normal so...A big Thank You!

Lynn said to me yesterday, mom, when you post again, please thank all your friends for me, and tell them how much I appreciated their comments on that blog post. Lynn said she read and enjoyed each comment. I thank you too. You truly are the best friends ever!

So much to tell you and so little time so I'm going to finish the post started before the Internet went out...

Have been moving things around a bit in the teeny tiny sewing room...

My cousin Patty, you may remember Patty...
Eli was looking a little wild. He was excited that Pat was visiting.

So, it was Pat who gave us that beautiful antique cupboard that sits on our porch...
My heart still skips a beat when I see it and realize it is mine, for keeps!

Well Patty has gifted me with another piece. Oh my goodness, as Lynn would say, "be still my heart"!

Take a look down the hall into the teeny tiny sewing room. It's there on the left...
 an old pie safe

Simply love that old timey wooden latch at the top.  This gives me more space for fabric too...

and came with yards and yards of beautiful "Holly Hobbie" fabric. "Thank you Patty".

and speaking of Holly Hobbie, my daughter Andee recently gave me this picture...
It's adorable, isn't it? Thank you Andee.

Guess I had better close this and get supper started. Thank you for visiting and I will be around to catch up.

Love,
Henny

  2. Yay !!
Happy to see you have returned Henny, and all is well with your internet once again.
What a gorgeous old pie safe, I can see it will be treasured, and the perfect place to hold your stash of fabrics...
I always feel we are just caretakers of old pieces, for just a little while, and then it's time to pass along and share the joy with the next caretaker.
    Hugs,

  5. I'm happy to see you're back and all is well. The pie safe looks perfect in its new home and you've already started filling it up! Aprons made with Holly Hobbie fabric should sell very well at craft markets too.
The bed in your sewing room is like a bed for a princess, all in white!!

Water is a lovely thing, in it's place, the sea,
waterfalls, parks etc..but you don't want to much
of it in yer back yard, or flowing down a high street! :(.
So pleased everything is up and running....
What's a Modem...??? Type of car...??? HeHe! When it comes
to the internet..l have the IQ of a rocking horse...! ;).

And..l must say..l do like the picture your daughter Andee
gave you..that is really, really nice..! Love the face..!

And the antique cupboard is lovely to..I have my dinning room
done out in Scandinavian Pine..it's lovely, unlike Scottish Pine,
it's a soft wood, and very plain, and very expensive, difficult to
get hold of these days..! Love it!

Well..best get on..just gone seven over here..just finished my first
lemon tea of the day..off to the bathroom..beautify myself, for my
trip to town..market day to~day..and the weather is still hot and
sunny..T~shirt and Cargos, pink of course, what else..pink trainers,
    what else...Ah! Life is grand..if you don't weaken..HeHe! :o).

"Alas, poor Yorick! I knew him, Horatio, a fellow of infinite jest,
of most excellent fancy. He hath borne me on his back a thousand times,
and now, how abhorred in my imagination it is! My gorge rises at it"...
(HeHe! Still remember my Shakespeare)..."Friends..Romans..(Oh! Well never mind)..

  13. I just love your pretty porch and big fluffy gorgeous Eli! Just want to hug him! Your new pie safe is so nice! I remember those wood latches, my grandmas had them on doors and things.

  14. Hi Henny- Your furniture is delightful...our home is a little to modern-contemporary for lovely antique looking pieces...they certainly have far more character and appeal than modern styles. All the best. Regards. KEV.

  15. Henny, the rains you had sound so scary-- if the waters are strong enough to tip over the footbridge with a pile of leaves, that's pretty serious! What a relief there was no further damage to your home. I have lots to catch up on-- I got my email hacked into and thought I was being extra secure by staying out of all sites that required my email address which is why I haven't commented, or even visited the last few times! It was sad not to be able to comment. But I think I was being overly-paranoid and I'm glad to hear you resolved your internet issues, also. The pieces, and especially the pie safe, are gorgeous. They really make a heart beat! Perhaps the yards of fabric found in the pie safe would delight me even more, though! I love Holly Hobby, and the picture Andee gave you is a very beautiful and calming one. P.S I woke from a dream with hens! I meant to search an interpretation of hens in a dream... Maybe it just means I'd choose this morning to return to your wonderful blog? Blessings!

    1. oooooO! oooooO! Sorry to bother you...
But! Yes! I know a bit about..dreaming of animals...
So...The hen represents the spiritual and creative side
of our personality! To dream of a hen means that you need
to pay close attention to your family, home, and prosperity...
      Amen! :).

  22. I love your pie safe! How sweet of your cousin to give it to you. I've always wanted one but haven't run across one yet. Glad to hear the rain didn't cause too many problems. Hope it didn't harm your vegetable garden!

    1. Hey Diane, That was some rain storm. It didn't hurt the garden, but I'm sure tired of messing with that garden. The Japanese beetle are driving me crazy and now the beans are bug eaten. The stink bugs won't leave the tomatoes alone. Gardening can be a lot of work. Oh and the squash bugs! :)

  23. Welcome back! I, and many others, missed you and worried about you. It's frustrating when things you rely on don't work, but I know that you weren't bored waiting for it to be fixed. You're one busy lady. Pat was so generous to give you the fabric and the pie safe; it's beautiful. Was it in your family in years gone by? That would make it even more special. I hope that the storm brewing in the gulf doesn't head your way. Maybe it'll be spent by the time it gets that far east.

    1. Peg, it is so good to hear from you. Thank you! No, I don't think the pie safe was in the family. Pat loves antiques and had bought many pieces for their home on the lake. Now they have sold that home and moved to a smaller place. Pat is very generous. She has given me lots of pictures and sewing things, well so many things. Looks like that storm for the most part will miss us. Sure hope so. We don't need any rain right now. :)

  24. Oh you lucky girl! I adore both of those lovely pieces, Henny! What a sweet cousin you have to bless you with them. I so enjoy looking at your lovely place with so many vintage items...it's like stepping back into time. So glad you are "up and running" again...I was in TN on Thursday and sure didn't know about all of that rain.

  25. Love the old pie safe! An old house we purchased in December had a pie safe in a shed out back. It had been painted white (why!) and I'm wondering if it could be restored, although I hate doing things like that!
Giving the fabric to Connie was such a wonderful thing; I'm sure it brought her much love and peace.

  26. Wow! I wish I had a Cousin Pat! That was some gift. I love, love, love that pie safe. It's odd that we never really saw one at all the auctions that we went to over the years when furnishing our first apartment and house. I would have snarfed one off right handily. The picture that Andee gave you is truly adorable (no other word would suffice) and it looks perfect above the safe. Lucky you!

  28. Your new pie safe is just perfect! And what a nice place to store fabric. I'm glad you're all safe, Eli didn't get too soggy, and you're on the "interwebs" again :) What a storm! Now I'm over here on the Mississippi with my new grandbaby, and we will get lots of rain from the hurricane coming to the Gulf.

  31. I'm glad all is well now. Five and a half inches of rain is a crazy amount. That's a beautiful pie safe. It makes darling storage for your fabric. Looks right at home in your cozy home too. I think we would all love to have a cousin Pat.
