Dear friends,

So, this pretty much shows you how the entire month of May has been out here on Henny Penny Lane. Seriously! Oh, we've had a day of sunshine here and there, but very few. Never in my life!!

Been seriously thinking about building, (an ark, is what I should say), but no, I was thinking of some kind of scaffolding for the chickens to walk on.

Something that that will lift them above the mud and gunk. Can't even do that until the rain lets up.

Eli had an appointment with the vet today.

This wet weather must be good for the ferns that grow around the rain barrel at the end of the porch. Glad something is enjoying all this rain and humidity!

Thank you for your friendship.

Love,
Henny

  2. Don't you love it when you are able to call your vet up at just about any time. Ours lives just 1.5 miles away, and he was very good that way. He may not be quite as available now, he is so busy, and is probably wanting to make his life slightly less hectic, but thank goodness we haven't needed him much for quite a few years, and no emergencies in that time. Your May sounds rather miserable, we have been spoiled with summer weather, but it looks like that is about to change a bit. Chuckled at Dr. Davis's polite way of mentioning Eli's weight. He is a big dog! and always so beautifully white looking. Do you have to run the lint brush over your clothes to get the white hairs off before you go out? ;-)

  3. We are drowning in WNC as well Henny! Hope you are all safe. Eli looks better every time I see him, he is such a happy boy. He knows he is loved. If you can figure out an idea for scaffolding, let me know, I may need it for myself. Love, Terry

    1. I've been hearing about the rain and flooding up your way. Sure hope things settle down soon! I've worried that I spelled "scaffolding" right. :) But, you spelled it that way too. Guess it's right. :) Love, Henny

  5. More rain forecasted for the whole week....ooh dear, that Ark sounds perfect :)
Eli is the whitest, cleanest large dog I have ever seen, and I used to groom dogs !
Gorgeous ferns Henny, so luscious and healthy looking.
Get your wellies back out dear friend.
    Hugs,

  6. Wow, you sure are getting drowned there, Henny! Are the veggies loving it or hating it?

  7. My dog would always shake and whine on her way to the vet. She hated it. She LOVED people but she eventually was like "you vet people leave me alone!"

  8. It's great to have a vet that is so kind and that you feel good about. We are blessed with a niece that is our vet. She's a sweetheart and we feel so comfortable about having her care for our Butchy.
Rain, rain go away, come again another day. Wishing you sunshine :)

  9. Send us your rain and we'll gladly send you our sunshine! At 94 degrees, it's too hot for this early in the year.

  10. That is a great vet! We have had the same weather. Today was supposed to be the same but the sun came out and I was able to pick the first beans. And it was so nice and dry we decided to eat lunch on the waterfront and enjoy it!

  11. Maybe you could fo something with branches that wouldn't need a lot of work?
Not sure which is worse, rain and humidity or heat and humidity.
You all take care and God bless!

  12. Eli is a big bunch of DOG! Does he still get to sit on laps?
We are winding down the driest May on record. This is not good for our Evergreen State.

  13. Too bad about all your rain. We could sure use some but either you get too much or it seems none at all.

  14. Eli is so big and handsome. I am tired of the rain also but I guess I should be thankful I have a feeling we might have a dry summer.

  15. They don't make many vets like that anymore. You are very fortunate.

  16. It's wonderful when you have a vet you love. We did, when we had a dog, and his name was Dr. Love! Eli is beautiful. At first I thought he was sitting up front by Poppy instead of you, but then I realized that he was behind your seat. He's so big that he's probably got a better view from the back seat. He won't have to swivel his head around as much with a wider view out the windows. I was wondering about your rain situation. The TV reports have mentioned LOTS of rain in your area. We've had awful heat here in St. Louis. It was 97 a few days ago, hotter than Houston, TX. Now we're in line tonight for rain - lots of it- from the storm Alberto. We're supposed to get a couple of inches, then a break for a day and more rain with strong storms. Has it been relatively cool there with all the rain? We blew away the record for the hottest May on record and often were 20 degrees above normal. With all your humidity I hope it's been at least a little cooler there so it's not as miserable. You need some serious sunshine!

    1. Oh gosh Peg! I can't imagine it being 97 degrees there. This has been the strangest weather. It has been in the 80's here and even high 70's when it's raining, but the humidity is so high, the air feels heavy and sticky. It feels like the 90's! If we make it to Sunday, there is a front that will cool us off a bit and drop the humidity. Thank goodness! Hope you don't get bad storms from Alberto or too much rain. It's early for tropical storms.

  17. And, here we are, not so far away, wishing we could get rain. We are already watering our gardens. We also count ourselves lucky to have a couple of good vets in town. The ferns are beautiful!

  18. I just love Eli and I'm glad you have such a great vet. You sure have had the rain lately! Those poor chickens look like they have had enough. We could use some more rain here. We've had too many days in the 90s already this summer.

    1. Thank you Bonnie. Hard to believe you've been in the 90's up that way. The temperatures are lower here, but very humid and sticky. I hope to get out early this morning...as soon as I finish my cereal and haul leaves for the chicken lot...try and beat the rain! :)

  21. Lots of rain also down here in s.e. FL, although not as much as some of you further north have had.

Hope you get some sunshine soon. We had a bit yesterday, but it looks like more rain will be happening today. Right now it is gray and windy.

  22. Wonderful fern. And beautiful dog.

    God bless.

  23. Your ferns look lovely and happy. I want to find a few stray hardy ferns on our farm somewhere and move them more front-and-center. I feel just the same about the weather - ugh! So much rain! WE are very soggy here. The ground is squishy.
My poor chickens are as pitiful as yours. Yesterday I went out there in the pour rain to check on them. All 8 of them (incl. 4 chicks) were huddled under the coop standing in the water, trying to survive. They couldn't get back into the coop, poor things. I helped them out - the coop is raised, and they were dry the rest of the day. phew!

  24. The ferns are pretty. We have lots of them up at Happy Trails.
Sure hope you get some sunshine.
Eli weighs more that I do!!
We had a vet that we loved too and my dog Sam used to like going to the vet to see him. : )
