Another little visit

Say, have the storms passed?

Anybody who has read my blog for any length of time knows that I am terribly afraid of storms.

The weather people started early last week warning us about the upcoming awful weather headed our way for Sunday...tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, high winds, downed trees, hail, and dangerous lightening"...yesterday was spent waiting . Waiting for that storm. For me, it's a feeling like being on death row.

Somewhere around eight o'clock arrived a thunderstorm with lightening, thunder, and rain, causing our Direct TV to go out, that's all. The storm cloud rolled on north and that was it. I'm thankful.

I am still moving stuff around at the playhouse under the long legged tower, even dragged that old heavy cast iron Singer sewing machine base up, thinking it might look cute for the potting bench. Things look a little out of whack right now.

Smokey said, it's fine just the way it is, as he jumped, turning over a few pots! Kitty cats are such a big help! The building of a playhouse is the fun part. It needs more, maybe an old wash pot for holding water and some nails around for hanging small gardening tools and an old towel.

Our rebuilt little rustic sign that hangs out front in the moss. Moss covers our front yard. A dark green grassy yard would be nice. Poppy asks, why would you want grass when you can have moss, it's like walking on carpet. It's shade of green that bothers me.

Have I mentioned that Poppy has retired? He still works part time...four short days a week, and then off every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. He has more time now to get things done here on the teeny tiny farm...like nailing the legs on my little tower.

Better get busy. It's Monday!

Love,
Henny

  1. Tornadoes, severe lightening, no wonder you were scared! It sounds much more severe than what we have here. I quite like sitting in the conservatory when the rain is thundering down, makes me feel cosy, I wouldn't be so complacent if there were tornadoes though... xx

  2. If I lived in the South I would also be afraid of storms. Here in Oregon, not so much. The potting table is perfect! Brilliant idea. Don't paint, leave natural. Things are gradually filling in around the long legged tower. One of the things I love most about the Pacific Northwest is the moss. There's moss everywhere and I just love it.

  3. I too would be scared with a weather warning you described particularly tornadoes. How wonderful that Poppy has retired you will be able to get son much more done and spend quality time together. Take care.

  4. Glad your storm passed. In the middle of one right now and it's dark and rainy. Your potting area is looking so pretty!

  5. Lovely photos. Our so-called lawn is also mossy in places and other kinds of vegetation growing instead of grass, I like it that way. I also do a lot of worrying about approaching storms, but mostly its just the inconvenience of losing power that bothers me. I am glad you got through this one OK. :)

  6. I love your potting table with the sewing machine base. Smokey is a typical cat -- must try out anything new! It has been raining here all day and big thunderstorms last night. I kind of like thunder. While the thunder was booming I went in the kitchen to make tea and there was a tiny frog plastered to the window looking in at me. I don't think he liked the thunder!

  7. I'm not afraid of storms, but I hate wind that just won't quit. We live on a ridge and used to live on an even higher spot. Of course that's where the wind is strongest. Our back yard is woods and one of these days a tree will go down. I just hope it falls away from the house when it goes. I'm sorry that you're so afraid. It's no fun to be on edge and scared - and storms and storm threats can last for hours. Here's hoping you have some good weather for a while so you can get out and get things done and enjoy it. If tropical storm Colin comes your way I hope it's lost its punch. I love your moss.

    1. Hey Peg! Oh it is terrible being so afraid of storms. We worry too about a tree falling on the house every time the wind blows. We had had two beautiful days now.

  8. We had a horrible week of rain, wind, lightening, power outages...I hate storms, and I am becoming more and more frightened of them as they increase around here. Today the sun is shining and I am hoping it lasts for a few days.

  9. Your entry area is looking really nice and homey. The potting table is wonderful. The base is perfect since it won't need to be replaced any time soon. I think Smokey has the right idea-----"It's just the right spot to stretch out for a nice little cat nap".

I was thinking about you yesterday and hoping that the storms out that way skipped over your little place. Glad you came through without any damage.

    1. Hey Vic. Thank you. I'll get the little potting area looking right, I hope! Glad those storms didn't get too bad here.

  10. When we had grass in our front yard it was always a battle with moss. Now I have it all covered with shrubs and perennials so no more moss.
I'm sure glad that storm wasn't as bad as was forecast!

  11. Congrats to Poppy! I love the way it is the green house entry is looking! I am going to have to watch the sales papers and see if I can get me one from Big Lots like that. I would love to build a big one.

    Love you!

  14. Hi Henny, I'm happy that the storm blew over you without any damage. Lightening, thunder, and rain are a blessing around here and we love sitting out on the porch when we have a storm, but then we don't, or haven't had a tornado . . . that would scare me! I kind of agree with Poppy, I like the moss, even the color :) Hope you're feeling better.

  15. We had a 10 minute thunderstorm yesterday afternoon, there was rain but not enough by a long shot. This morning there is heavy mist hanging over "my" mountain but the air is warm. I have a bit of driving to do so I almost hope that the sun does not beat down.

  16. We have been having a heat wave - 93 here yesterday. Way too hot. But cooling is on the way, back to the easy days of 65 to 70 with a chance of sprinkles. No severe storms in the offing. Not like where you live. The national news is carrying regular reports of severe weather warnings daily now for the southeast. I hope the storms skip you.

  17. I'm glad I have cable for my TV though it's all really internet-based. I just have Netflix and Amazon Prime. We had direct tv for about 2 years not long ago and I rarely watched it. Never gave it much time to see it disappear during bad storms.

  18. I'm thankful the worst of the storms passed you by. I am afraid of storms, also. (I live in north GA)
You have a lovely blog and your cat Smokey looks just like my Kaboodle!
Wishing you a wonderful day and I'll be back to visit soon!

  19. So glad you weathered the storms safely! I am not too awfully afraid of them but I do cringe a bit when there are high winds and lightning since our whole yard is nothing but tall, tall trees...all very close to the house! And speaking of the yard, we too have a lovely green carpet of moss covering most of it. I think it's beautiful! Happy Tuesday :)

  20. Glad you are safe and had not tornadoes. Scarey things! Smokey looks like he owns the place!! Just think, you don't have to mow moss! Nancy

  21. Glad you only had mild storming. We didnt get much of colin here so thankful for that! Love the picture of Smokey----he looks like our Smokey! Love blue kitties!--have raised many of them over the years. Hot and sunny here--- on my way to a big glass of sweet tea!

  22. I love your sweet little play house...potting shed...including the long legged tower that your hubby made for you. What a clever idea to use the base of the old singer sewing machine as the base for your potting table! But, tell me, how did you drag that thing from the house without hurting your back?

I'm so glad that the bad weather turned out to not be so bad. What a blessing!

I need to e-mail you to fill you in on what is going on here with us...kind of a catch up since I no longer blog.

    Hugs to you!

    1. So glad to hear from you Dianna. Thank you. I did work too hard the last couple of days but still being careful with my back. I pulled that sewing machine base on an old metal cart Poppy brought home from the grocery store. They were going to trash it. It rolls easy for pulling heavy loads. Please do email me. I would love to hear from you.

  24. Moss has it's advantages, it doesn't need mowing. Looking forward to seeing the finished potting area! Smokey looks like he is laid there giving orders. He says to don't forget a nice soft bed for him to lay in while he supervises;-)
