This snow storm blew through yesterday...
and blew through it did! The snow fell for two, maybe three hours then ended and melted right away. That pretty much describes snow storms here in North Carolina. These back country roads were white with snow...it was beginning to look serious here for a short while!
Why, there was hardly time to get the corn popped and the fudge made before the snow was out of here.
Snow always makes me think about mama. Anytime it snowed, she was the first to pick up the phone and call everybody. I can hear her now saying, "Melba, is it snowing there?" Mama loved to stand at a window, watching the snow fall and worrying. Among other things, she worried about the little birds getting enough to eat when the ground was covered with snow. Many a time, mama baked pans of cornbread to crumble up for the birds.
Now, this morning, not even a trace of snow. The sun is shining, and it's very cold and windy. The tops of these tall trees are swaying back and forth!
A good day to keep busy inside...
or curl up somewhere and sleep.
I'm getting busy now. I've simply got to! Hopefully I will be back soon with something interesting. :)
Love,
Henny

No snow, but going to be very cold here tonight. Stay warm.
ReplyDeleteStill no snow here but the temperatures are dropping, it is seriously cold.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a chilly day here, or maybe my blood is "thinning" like everyone tells me it will. I hope it happens before next summer starts! Your is the best kind of snow to have, real pretty and it goes away on its own very quickly. I'm wondering if Eli enjoyed playing in it. Some dogs go nuts with excitement!
ReplyDeleteIt snowed pretty here but it did not stick! I must have gotten my love for snow from grandma. I used to call everyone and talk about the snow.. I would love a hunk of your fudge. I love you stay warm!
ReplyDeleteOh the snow is so pretty! Many of our snow 'events' are similar to yours. I'd like one decent snowfall this winter, we've only had a couple of teasers.
ReplyDeleteWe haven't had any snow - yet! A lovely story about your Mama! x
ReplyDeleteThe snow looks so beautiful. None here, sadly.
ReplyDeleteNo sign of snow here, but it surely is cold enough...*shiver*
ReplyDeleteLooks so pretty through your window :)
Eli knows what's best...lol

Such beautiful photos!! I know snow can make life difficult for some people but I do love how cosy it makes you feel and how beautiful the trees look. Stay warm and cosy, best wishes Jackie :)
ReplyDeleteYour Mum sounds like my kind of lady! Your yard looked lovely with the snow. Eli had the right idea.
ReplyDeleteHave a good week!
Aww....Better go curl up with Eli! Beautiful pictures. Really cold here! Nancy
ReplyDeleteLike your mother I sit at the window and watch snow falling. We don't get snow that often so it's intriguing. You sure had a nice quick storm then back to sunshine.
ReplyDeleteI'm amazed at how little snow has fallen this year in places that usually see a lot of snow. Here in our part of Oregon we usually don't get a lot of snow. I think we've probably had our snow event for this year. It was a bit heavier than yours & lasted about two days. I love snow days only if I can be inside looking out.
ReplyDeleteStay warm.
ReplyDeleteIf we had snow I missed it. We have the cold.
We have lots of snow here and tonight it will be -30C with the wind. Not fit for man or beast. I would have liked your mom. She sounds like she was very kind. :)
ReplyDeleteSuch gorgeous snow! Lovely to see snow photos when it is so hot here!
ReplyDeleteA little snow brings some variety.
ReplyDeleteit's always exciting when the snow falls in an area where that is not common. It's like that here in Seattle too.
ReplyDeleteThe snow is so pretty... I, too, love to watch it. We've got a forecast of 2-4 inches for tomorrow afternoon. I had to grocery shop today and I believe that everyone who had the day off because of MLK day was out stocking up. The last time it showed here it didn't stick because the ground was warm. That certainly has changed. The highest temperature I saw today was 12. Our snow will probably be the dry, tiny flake kind so it won't stick to trees like that pretty wetter snow. At least it will be easier to shovel since it's so cold. Stay warm
ReplyDeleteWe have cold, cold, cold weather right now. - 20 degrees with wind. YUCK!
ReplyDeleteI like the memory you shared of your mama. Very sweet.
Happy Snow Snow day,
Carla
I love your cabin in the woods, Henny! Aw! Eli knows how to relax! Good boy!
ReplyDeleteStay cozy!
You are so right, my friend. It was coming down in big flakes during my drive to church and when I looked out when church was over, it looked as if it was just my imagination. Maybe we will get some for real on this second go 'round later this week. One can only hope :)
ReplyDeleteMom used to like to make sure there was some cornbread left over to feed the birds...the snow looks beautiful. I am loving that dog! Eli...I did go back to see a bit about him..our neighbor across the street has a dog named Bianca that looks so much like him.
ReplyDeleteSo, got to know, what kind of dog is he. We always think Bianca looks to be at least part Great Pyrenees.
Hey Rose! Thank you for visiting my blog, and thank you for following my blog! Eli is a great white Pyrenees. He is a big spoiled baby and we sure love him.
DeleteYou got snow! Too bad it didn't stay! Did Eli like it? :)
ReplyDeleteIt was such a crazy morning we didn't get to spend much time out in the snow, and then it melted so fast. We are supposed to get more snow this week. But, Eli is loving this cold windy, snow flurry weather. :)
DeleteA beautiful snowy picture. Looks like a coating of powdered sugar over everything.
ReplyDeleteMama, the snow pictures are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLove you,
Lynn
Your snow photos are beautiful. Hope you will take a lot more if it comes back. Loved hearing about your mother and her personality. Maybe you will do a post about her and show some pictures?
