Yay! Happy 4th of July everybody!! It sure is quiet down here in the woods...no fireworks, nothing, and here it after 9:00...almost bedtime. Guess I should be thankful...
On our morning walk with Eli and Ellie I carried the camera. Here's how the teeny tiny garden looked as we passed by...
We are getting tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplant, and peppers so far. Tomorrow, there should be enough green beans to pick and cook. Looking forward to that.
And we did have our first bacon, lettuce, tomato sandwich...made with a juicy red tomato from the garden. I know, most folks call them BLTs. I just can't bring myself to abbreviate anything. It's strange. :)
Should have fancied up the table a little before taking the picture and I can't believe the big jar of Duke's Mayonnaise is still in the refrigerator...and no napkins along side the plates...and no bread! Eli was in a hurry.
Caught Poppy fishing...
slipped up behind him and sat down on the picnic table...just in time to see hime catch a small one...
Seems like everything has been so green and lush lately...maybe because we finally got a little rain last Friday...
Kind of a ragged looking picture. Sometimes it feels like living in the rain forest. Why I don't have houseplants! Here's looking out the bedroom window...
Anyhow, Eli and Ellie, after a long walk...
and Smokey too...
Guess I could have looked under the sewing table and got a picture of Dumperoo. He sleeps on a big red pillow there most of the time.
Well friends, it is now bedtime and still no fireworks to be heard.
Sorry I've been away so long. The days are busy...if there's any good thing about winter coming, it's the shorter days and more time at night. By the time I wash the supper dishes and close the chicken house door and dip the ice cream...why, it's 9:00! Hope we are still friends.
Love,
Henny
These two are getting closer. Ellie is a sweetie pie for sure.
So good to see you Henny! Happy 4th of July to you and Poppy and all your critters! Your pictures are wonderful...everything is so green and lush....the views out the windows are marvelous too! And the pic of Poppy sitting on the dock fishing! Your place looks like a paradise! And your garden is coming along great. That picture of your ripe tomato and lettuce and bacon looks delish! If I lived next door I'd walk on over and visit and sit on your neat porch with you! Glad Eli and Ellie are getting closer...it just takes time. Thanks for your post....always fun to read! Take good care!
ReplyDeleteThank you Diane. Sure wish you could come over and sit with me on the porch. I would love that!
DeleteWhat a sweet photo of all of your babies napping. I just want to give Eli and Ellie big hugs. I miss my Chloe-girl something terrible.
ReplyDeleteWe have all of your fireworks for you. They have been setting them off for about a week now. Last night they never stopped...all. night. long. Tonight sounds to be the same. It's like living in a war zone. Constant bangs and the house shaking. There is so much smoke you can't see down the street! I hope it's all done after tonight but I doubt it.
Your garden looks so green and productive. We had BLT's for lunch today too. Nothing was homegrown or made though. There's just something about home grown tomatoes.
We were in a parade today at our daughter, Mandy's, in-law's campground. They have a place they are members of and have camped with many of the same people for years. We have always enjoyed visiting on the 4th of July when we were in town. Now that we live here, I guess it may become an annual event. We had two 1953 Ford tractors pulling flatbeds and about 12 golf carts all decorated up and going round the campground and adjoining neighborhood. It was great fun. I wore my red, white and blue tiara of course. Piper chose it for me! Ha!
Happy 4th of July my friend.
Blessings and hugs,
Betsy
Your garden is looking fabulous and eating from it already - wow! Happy Independence Day.
ReplyDeleteHappy 4th a bit late to you and Poppy! Everything looks wonderful around your place. Your garden is beautiful and all the green everywhere is so inviting. It's pretty special that Poppy can just walk out and down to the pond to fish right there at your house! Those tomatoes must have made great bacon sandwiches. You've made me hungry for one! I love seeing Eli and Ellie and of course Smokey too. I just wish I could love on them all. You and Poppy take care! xx
ReplyDeleteYes! Happy 4th of July..Even l had the
ReplyDeleteStars and Stripes flying over here in
the UK..It's a very old flag to..only
33 stars and 33 stripes..One from the
civil war l expect!
And! No! I don't do fireworks either..
Horrid things..should be banned! :(.
Goes without saying Henny..great photos,
love the one of Ellie, peering above the
table, wishing she was taller l expect! :).
And the two of them asleep..certainly saves
on carpets! Bless!xx
Looks as though Smokey got the best place,
all those paws..!x
Looking good over here, looks as though
things will get back to normal on the 19th,
most of the virus restrictions will be lifted,
even giving people the choice on whether or
not to wear a mask..so it's positive at least..!
Well..suns out, after a night of rain, must get
out into the garden, quite a bit needs cutting
and tiding up..though l keep on top of it..! :).

Thank you Willie. Bet that old flag is a beauty. Hope you are enjoying being in the garden today, after the rain. We need more rain!
DeleteHenny,
ReplyDeleteI really like the look of your Vegetable Garden- wow- things grow fast there in Northern Carolina. Best Wishes. KEV.
beautiful pictures, looks peaceful. It was very noisy here, way to much noise..
ReplyDeleteSo nice to hear you had a lovely and quiet 4th. I'm too old anymore to appreciate the booms and hisses of fireworks.
ReplyDeleteIt looked like a great table of food and Eli waiting for a strip of bacon, I bet. Made me hungry seeing it. And your
veggie garden sounds like it is really coming right along. Good for you all with great eating. Glad to see the pups
resting quietly close together. and of course, I'm partical to gray cats, so Smokey took a lovely photo.
I love the life you are living. Your garden looks so wonderful, this year the rabbits are having a field day with ours. Hubby would love to sit out there by the water and fish. You are very bless.
ReplyDeleteTomato and cheese whiz sandwiches are my favorites. It's at least another month before I will have ripe tomatoes.
ReplyDeleteLove the picture of Eli looking at the BLT stuff on the table! So cute! you can almost here him asking if any of it is for him!
ReplyDeleteMy mouth was watering when I saw the fixins’ for BLTs. Perfect picture, too, with those puppy eyes taking it all in. Your garden looks so tidy and lush. Nice to be enjoying the fruits of your labors there now. We have a quiet Fourth, too. Just one night of fireworks and they ended at 10 pm. People must have worn themselves out at the beach as they usually go on til midnight.
ReplyDeleteYour garden is doing great! Mine not so good!!
ReplyDeleteLove the picture of Poppy fishing and the Eli and Ellie sleeping after their walk.
You have fresh garden tomatoes and even green beans!! I am so envious. I can hardly wait for ours to be ready but it will be a month at least. I sure wonder how you get bacon so perfectly straight. BLTs are great!!
ReplyDeleteOh it sounds like and looks like your garden is really doing well. Our dry weather has hurt ours but hoping that we will be picking beans soon and tomatoes. There is nothing like a bacon, tomato and lettuce sandwich. As for Eli and Ellie they are looking so good together. Enjoy your week and hope your fourth was good. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful, soothing post! And wonderful pictures you shared, too. Your bac-let-tom sandwich set-up (see, I only partially abbreviated so as to meet you half-way) looks delicious! And the photobomber has the sweetest face! The teeny-tiny garden is punching above its weight already! Wow, good foods from the land. Nothing better. And fresh fish!
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful & green it all looks here Henny. And how wonderful to be able to sit in a chair & fish off the little jetty like that. Just perfect. I would take my cuppa & a magazine down there I think. Your furry ones look happy & contented. xx
ReplyDeleteMy goodness what a lush looking garden. And all the good to eat things that you are pulling out of it! How did you learn to be such a good farmer, did you do gardening when you were a kid?
ReplyDeleteI love Ellie's pink collar. Is that her favorite color?
Your place is looking so lush and green and very very peaceful. Looks like you wore out Eli and Ellie with the walk :)
ReplyDeleteYour place is so lovely and green! We are in such a drought here, it was so refreshing to see the beauty all around your home! How wonderful to catch a fish right off your own dock! I'm sure the dogs were glad there were no fireworks to be heard! They sure are beautiful dogs :)
ReplyDeleteIt ids so green there!! The dogs are looking good! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Henny...I'm catching up and read your last few posts. We had lots of fireworks close by on Canada Day but I don't appreciate them at all. I'm like most cats and dogs when it comes to them...hate the big bang.
ReplyDeleteYour garden is looking so lush. You are way ahead of me with harvesting. I don't even have a red tomato yet. I did pick two peppers though today. Our garden is smaller than yours as the kids now have their own gardens and it's basically for Gary and I and to share some with our friends. Much easier and enjoyable. I have a row and a half of dahlias in my garden and I've had such fun learning all about them. I'm hooked now for sure and will add more next year. Your pond is so lovely.
Sending you, Poppy, Eli, Ellie, Smokey and Dumperoo a big hug from me and do enjoy these dog days of summer. Before you know it it's fall. hugs, Deb
A belated Happy 4th to you! You're very fortunate to have avoided all the noisy fireworks. We had plenty here, and it was too much for me. I normally like them, but it's hard when you see them stressing your pets. Thanks for the life catch-up! Life should go at the pace you choose here in Blogland, so no worries here. Your sandwich makings look yummy. Can't beat homegrown tomatoes! I used to grow them. Haven't in awhile, but should! Take care and hope you have a good Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteHi Dear Friend,
ReplyDeleteI am just like you, I am on the go till dark. That is why I enjoy the winter months, it is my time to rest a wee bit.
I love all your lovely photos.
We went fishing with our son Atticus the other day, he caught a big Northern!! His smile was so big.
Love, Carla
Hello Henny! Missing this summer as I work too much! Loving that pond and all the beauty you are surrounded with. Time flies, and Ellie is really growing! Enjoy the summer, Henny, you have a beautiful garden and yard, soon enough fall will be here. It really is a beautiful life! XO Terry
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy visiting your blog and your place looks amazing. So, lush and green . . . I love it!
ReplyDeleteThe dogs are so cute Henny! I love the photo of Poppy fishing. I haven't fished in ages and I miss it a lot! Your garden and grounds look so relaxing and please I hope you saved me some of those BLT fixins!!! :)
ReplyDeleteYour garden is looking so good. Do you use any feeding for your plants? Sometimes I think it really doesnt work that well. My brother hardly uses any and his garden is like your garden producing very well. I didn't pay any attention to napkins or bread. Who has time for staging like for a photo shoot? By the way, I love those yellow plates. That bacon looks mighty good along with those tomatoes, yummm!! Your sweet doggy does too! Enjoy the rest of your day, Betsy
ReplyDeleteIt does look like Eli is warming up to his new girl! I'm so glad. We are all languid here too. Like you, I don't really have house plants because all I have to do is look out the windows to see that I live in an overgrown jungle that's about to take over the house! haha :) Glad all is well with you. I'm hibernating until the heat passes.
