Leaves, windstorms, clouds!

Willow oak leaves are all over the front yard again...third time this season!

So, I decided to start in a different part of the yard and rake the leaves between the house and the teeny tiny goat barn, Rosie's home...

I raked and raked and raked all the way down to the chicken lot, pulling away a bunch of leaves, and feeling mighty pleased with myself for making such a good start. I love seeing the green grass appear from underneath.

Well, 2 days later that big cold front dropped down bringing most of you snow and bringing us only high winds and cold temperatures. The wind woke us up in the middle of the night, Wednesday night with sticks and limbs hitting the house.

Needless to say, the nicely raked side yard is a mess! I will start over! Have to keep telling myself, "no, matter how bad it looks, all those loads of leaves I pulled away are still gone," so all is not lost.

Filling in here with a picture of the little sewing room where there were supposed to be pictures from the big Christmas craft event last Saturday...

I was supposed to come back and post about it, but it all happened so fast, and we were so busy, taking pictures never entered my mind. Anyhow, I'm sure you've seen enough of my bonnets and aprons and bags. Speaking of bags! Since the boho bags were such a hit at the last craft show, I had 14 made for this event...and would you believe, not even one bag sold! You just never know.

A few months back I did a lot of cleaning out the teeny tiny sewing room. Got rid of a lot of clutter and dust, but told Smokey he could stay...

along with miss Ellie, stretched out where I need to get to the ironing board...

a jumbled-up post I know but Poppy has taken a few neat sky pictures while deer hunting down near Randall Rabbit's lot. Poppy's chair sits backed up to the lot so he and Randall visit, watch for deer, and look at the sky as the sun sets just before dark...oh, and where am I? Inside getting supper on the table and keeping Eli and Ellie from barking.

I think the pictures have a lonely look. Back when I was very young there was a painting that hung in the living room at home. It had the same colors as in these pictures but even more red in the sky, there was no blue at all. It had woods in the background, a lake, and there were two men in a small boat. That painting always looked lonely to me. Oh well...

Here's one more Poppy picture. The little squirrels are fussing over who gets to sit at the wheel of the tractor...

Not much of a post but if I delete it, no telling when I will get around to doing another one. Going to warm up supper now. Thank you for stopping by.

Love, Henny

  1. Cute picture of the squirrel sitting on the tractor.
Raking those leaves seems like a never ending job for you. :)
Funny how some things sell so good one time and the next not at all. You just never know.
Always when a post from you pops up. :)

  2. Beautiful pictures. I love the lonely look..makes me feel nicely moody. Same here in Delaware....rake, rake, rake and the leaves are just not cooperating and not blowing in the best direction for our yard. And same storm...leaves and twigs hitting our windows. I had to move to a different bedroom just in case anything came through the windows. andrea

  3. Bob does the leaves here and it's been a never ending job. First acorns, more than ever. He hauled away over 20 wheelbarrows full this year. Then the oak leaves started falling. He took care of them again today and is hoping that's the end!
We used to do craft shows. It's crazy how sales differ from one to another.
I love Poppy's pics! I agree, those sunsets do look lonely.

  4. It's good to hear from you.
I have been doing some raking too as we clean up from the bomb cyclone that came in off the Pacific on Tuesday night. Power was restored after only 13 hours. We got cable back yesterday. All is well.

  5. I thought you were going to say it scattered your leaves all back out! You know in all the years we had leaves to rake, there were lots that blew in from beside us and behind us. and only one year they blew away from us. That was just 3 or 4 yrs ago. I had hardly any to rake.

I like that sky, too. And I feel the loneliness, too.

  6. Melba, I gave up raking many years ago! Too hard on this old body but the main reasons are it doesn't do one lick of good and it provides a ground cover during the winter rains. My dogs don't get quite so muddy! I love the sky pics and the little squirrel on the tractor made me giggle. Oh, before I forget - Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

    Grace & Peace,
    Pam

  7. Beautiful pictures Melba, the sunset pictures are stunning.
You should invest in a leaf mulcher to put on your riding mower, so much easier than raking, and saves your back.
Sorry your purses didn't sell, I can't imagine why you do such beautiful work.
    Wishing you a blessed Thanksgiving.
    Hugs,
    Jo

  9. I loved your post and I'm so glad you didn't delete it. Our weather is getting colder too. Next week is supposed to be frigid. Yikes! I know it will be December, but I'm not ready for it. I did finish the very last of our Christmas preparations today in preparing Piper's advent stockings from. I knitted two sets of 25 tiny baby size stockings and clothes pinned them to twine with 1 through 25 on them. Mandy and Piper fill a set for me and I fill one for Piper. I never had a stocking as a child so I love getting the tiny advent surprises. It's usually just a chocolate treat but once in a while it's chapstick or something else small. It's the surprise that's fun! I started out just doing it for Piper but she soon wanted to fill one for me so it's become our tradition.
I use the boho bag I got from you every week. I carry our Bibles and my knitting to church in it every week. I get compliments on it almost every time I use it. And it's still as good as new. You make lovely items. Piper still has her little dolls on her bookcase in her room.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  10. Wow you're back so soon. That's so nice. I hope the Christmas Sale went well for you, even though you didn't sell those bags. Sorry you have to keep raking all those leaves. Will Poppy get a deer? His pictures are very pretty. I always love all the pictures you post and love seeing all your sweet animals. Hope the weather calms down for you there and that you can enjoy the days leading up to Christmas. Are you still dancing? Take good care Melba, God Loves you.....me too!

  11. Today was a bonus to see you posting again. You are so busy and it is fun for me to hear about all of your doings. I have been pretty lazy, but did several paintings this year. Makes me happy to know that you have a couple of mine from a few years ago!
Stay cozy and have a lovely Thanksgiving!

  12. You rake leaves! With a rake! Good for you! I use one too, but everyone else around here uses a leaf blower. With yards of 3 to 20 acres, we can hear leaf blowers blasting All. Day. Long. Gets wearisome on the ears.

Your sewing area looks so welcoming and cozy. A lovely place to spend chilly days.

  13. Hi Henny- I use to rake though we had the offending tree cut down- good thing about palms- they don't drop leaves. Like the pic of Smokey. Regards. KEV.

  14. Henny, love the mix of the post. A bit like the wind running through your thoughts and photos, lol. We have most of our mountains of leaves moved off to the back area. There are now oak leaves down and with the bit of snow and tiny rains, they are too wet to move. Hoping the north wind will put them away for me. Too bad about the bags not selling. I know you spend a lot of time and money on them. You better not throw out the cat and dogs with the bath water! Lynn and Precious PS Happiest Thanksgiving and hope you spend it with your girls.

  15. I think that this post is very interesting...It speaks about life and how moment to moment, things around us change. Awe...the joy of raking leaves and then the wind spreading them out again. Sure love that beautiful quilt in the picture...The pictures of the sky are so very pretty and the little squirrel have his dinner is so cute....Have a happy Sunday Henny...

  16. Henny, always glad to see a little into your life... And yes, DH uses a leaf blower instead of a rake - although I love the look of things covered in leaves. The sky pics are great... and the ones of Smokey and Ellie (but was looking for Randall's pic).
    Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving!

  17. Fallen leaves are the huge challenge for us, too, at our home. I love the photos of the sunset your husband took. God never fails to paint His masterpieces on His eternal canvas. Have a blessed Thanksgiving!

  18. The squirrel is all ready to go to work. :) Raking is like shoveling, you never know if more is coming after you just finished doing it. Have a great week!

  19. I guess leaves are the price you pay for all the lovely trees. Does make a lot of work for you though. We had a big storm pass through one night last week and would you believe I slept right through it. Sure saw a lot of twigs and branches down in the park. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. 20. Henny, you are SO right that you never know what will sell at a market. We say that all the time at our Saturday market. Some weeks I sell tons of printed cards. Other weeks, everybody needs Bee Balm!
Folks in Oriental have posted an unusual amount of bright orange sunset photos this autumn -- it's been a good season for evening sky color. Thanks for posting!

  22. I always try to look at raking leaves as exercise, so it doesn't seem too bad! I'm sorry your bags didn't sell but maybe at a Spring market they will be more popular! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family Henny!

  23. You can always leave the leaves for all the critters who have hunkered down in there and laid eggs... ;-)

  24. It sounds like you are getting a lot of exercise with all of that leaf raking. It must have been hard to see more come down after your hard work.
That squirrel picture is so cute.
    Happy Thanksgiving.

  25. Your photos are just beautiful dear Henny - I especially love the ones that Poppy took & think they would look stunning made into cards. Such a pretty area where you live. I also love your teeny tiny sewing room - how special. xx

  26. It's always a good sale if you are too busy to think about stopping and taking a photo! Sorry about the leaves, but isn't that just how it goes with the weather sometimes? It seems to here anyways..just when I think it's fall it's summer, same with summer and spring. I'm not wishing for winter, but I know it is just about ready to stop by for a visit. I love the sky shots that Poppy took- very pretty and sounds like he has a nice spot to see it. Hope you all have a happy Thanksgiving!
