Thank You Kindly

My dearest blogging friends,

I feel awful for not getting back and replying to each of you for your nice comments and well wishes concerning my broken wrist. You left lots of good advice and encouraging words and I appreciate that.  Thank you very very much.

Close your eyes! You're not going to believe this...well, except maybe for Connie, over at Far Side...

Yep, this massive morning glory vine that has grown since early spring, covering most of the garden fence on one side, has produced a bloom. Just made my day, even though it's not quite the shade of blue I was expecting. You were right Connie. You said it would probably bloom before cold weather.

Walked around the yard a bit this morning. Remember the row of Beauty Berry bushes I planted year before last...

They have grown really fast and are loaded with berries...

Oh and one of my favorite flowers that blooms in October when other flowers are fading...

Obedient plant (False Dragonhead), a very invasive plant. Why just look down in the woods where I throw the "dead stems"...

Anyhow...

Yesterday was my appointment with the orthopedic doctor...I decided to go with a lovely black cast that would compliment any outfit. :) yeah right...

Not my thinking at all. I chose a black cast that would not show the dirt and filth I pick up out here in the woods, feeding animals and toting buckets of water.

Oh friends, you know the worst part? This is fall of the year. Time to clean up the garden and rake leaves. I had, just a few days ago, finished my "fall to do list". Big plans, I'm talking about! Plans involving a chain saw, clippers, a shovel, a wheelbarrow for hauling dirt and rocks, muscle!! :(

I have, however, decided on some things I CAN do...Thank goodness, I'm left handed. I can pull weeds with one hand. Vinca vine has invaded one end of the vegetable garden.  Also might try spreading out a tarp and raking the little willow oak leaves from the front yard onto the tarp then dragging them up to the garden. Raking with one hand may be kinda' hard to do. Daddy always said, "you can do anything you set your mind to".

Guess that's about it for now.  Only 8:30 and I'm sleepy. Didn't rest good last night. Just couldn't find a comfortable spot for this cast. Maybe I will join the crowd in the living room...

Love,

Henny

  1. Oh, I am so glad you are left handed! I don't know if if you saw I hurt my hand a week or so ago. I was so thankful it was my left. It is getting better but sure was easy to hurt for a while. I can now squeeze the toothpaste! Maybe if you had a leaf blower, you could blow the leaves into a pile and make it easier. My daughter got me a battery leaf blower and it is sure nice.

  3. It's amazing how handicapped a broken wrist is. Isn't dressing fun? How's sleeping with a cat? And it's painful.

  4. Love your cast Henny....it looks sparkly in that picture! Very Elegant! Wow...you finally got a morning glory and very pretty too. Wow...talk about a lot of berries...and I read you can make jelly and tea from them. and the false dragonhead plant is gorgeous this time of year...and just look at all the beauty in the woods!!! Better take a good rest after typing out this post. You're lucky you're left handed! Thank goodness. Now....don't overdo it! Take good care.

    1. Thank you Diane. I had never heard that beauty berries could be used for jelly or anything else. We sure have lots of them. Think I will Google that. :)

  5. Now, Henny, don't you go overdoing it and trying to do too much! Your body needs time to heal up properly and if you are not careful it is so easy to use the healing arm to 'help out' when doing something. You gotta look after yourself :) xx

  6. So many beautiful flowers around your place Henny. Leave it to Connie to be completely right about the morning glory. :-) She's brilliant! And I agree with Diane. That sparkly cast is the bees knees! Now you just need an elegant black sparkly apron to wear with it.
Please don't overdo in the garden. Unfortunately, anything that doesn't get done this fall will just be waiting for you in the spring, so it's better to take care of yourself my friend. Heal and rest.
Love your babies sleeping so happily on the furniture. Is there anywhere left for you and Poppy to sit?
    Blessings and love,
    Betsy

  7. Oh Henny Penny, I assumed you were right-handed but you're not so you are not totally handicapped by your cast. When I broke my wrist it was my right one and that was tough.
Your Morning Glory really did produce a flower and such a pretty one too!!
Your Beauty bushes are loaded with berries. I wonder if you use them for anything. I've heard they are edible but not so good raw.

  8. That morning glory bloom is just beautiful! I have no doubt it bloomed just for you, to lift your spirits after getting hurt. Everything around your place is beautiful and you have so much blooming for this time of the year. Your cast looks very nice and I think it was smart for you to choose black. I have no doubt that you can rake with one hand because I know you can do anything you set your mind to do. This might be a good time for you to get a leaf blower like Rose said. They do really help! But please, please be careful! It must be frustrating to not be able to do everything you want to do but your health really is more important! Please take care of yourself!

  10. HaHa! Is there enough space in the
    living room! :).

As usual, it's all looking lovely out in the
garden..the flowers look nice and bright, even
though it's coming to the end of the season!
You take care with that wrist..DON'T DON'T do
    anything silly...AND..Forget about the chain
saw..stick to a few weeds perhaps! Even so, l'd
rest up if l were you..!
And, yes, Daddy was right, but it's not yer mind
    that's the problem..it's yer wrist!
    HeHe! Trust me..I'm a doctor..! :O).

A 'pink' cast might look better...! :O).

    1. Oh Willie, I could have picked a hot pink. I was thinking of how easily dirt would show on pink. Thank you. It is pretty hard to find a seat in the living room. :)

  12. I can see having a broken wrist will not hold you back from your yard work. Just don't overdo it so that you have more sleepless nights. I love the beauty bush I used to have one in the birds loved the berries. Now I enjoy seeing my neighbor Bush instead. I'm not sure you can take a nap in the living room because no one saved you a spot.

  13. Hi Henny- Try not to overdo things- Wrists are hard at times to mend- all the best. KEV.

  14. I don't think you will find much space in the living room! Such pretty dogs, such sleepy dogs!! So sorry that you broke your wrist. That has to be very difficult but at least it's not your dominant hand. Take care.

    1. Thank you, and thank you for visiting and following my blog. First time I've broken a bone, in all my years. :)

  15. Yeah for one beautiful bloom! There may be more! Those beauty berry bushes are so pretty! Try a pillow to get that arm comfy! Black cast is certainly basic and goes with everything. Be careful so it heals!!

  16. Someone is going to have to squish over and give you a bit of room so you can rest, too! I slept all crazy last night and have a crick in my neck because both dogs decided to be at the head of the bed, meaning I was down at the foot, and they also didn't share the blankets. I am glad to see a cast on that arm. Now it can heal up. It is going to be hard to do that yardwork with one arm. I know your Daddy's words are correct and wise that we can do just about anything if we want to -- but that generation was TOUGH! The toughest! Glad to hear you are a Southpaw, at least there's that! I know, what a time to be laid up with a broke wrist!

  17. What a special that one morning glory bloom is.
Good to hear you are coping with your broken wrist.
I like your black cast - I would have chosen that color too. )

  18. Oh dear friend just read your previous post. Hoping you are not in too much pain. Several years ago I fell on ice and broke my wrist...I so understand that terrible feeling of not being able to do the things you generally do. Hold on you will barely remember the incident in a few months from now. You will heal and in the meantime enjoy the rest. Hugs! P.S. glad to see that morning glory blooming. Made me smile. Bet it made you too. I

  19. I think the black cast was smart! Now don't do too much out there!

  20. Oh, I'm so glad to hear that you only have a cast and don't need any kind of surgery to fix things. Do take care and try, try, try to not overdo. Your to do list is of your own making and so it can be unmaked by you as needed. Give that wrist a break (little pun there!) and let its rest and heal.

  21. Take care my dear friend.
I loved seeing your morning glory.

  22. I love morning glories! especially blue ones and even one bloom would excite me! As for the others, I'm not familiar with them, but they are pretty. Love the pics of the pups on the sofa. Where do you sit? And smart about the black cast... we have no carpeting in our house (because we always had cats and too hard to keep clean) - except for the carpet on the stairs which we did in black as our cats were mostly black. (which makes me think, your black cast will show white hairs when you pet the dogs?)

  23. Uh oh, I missed your misadventure. Take care. I know sleeping can be problematic - it sure was when I had knee surgery. Have you tried CBD oil?

  24. Hope you heal quickly, Henny. God bless!

  25. Your body needs lots of sleep to recover from what's happened :) Don't DON'T push yourself too much. Perhaps this is God's way of saying, "Dear heart, you must slow down this autumn!!" Take care, and heal well.

  26. Good morning Henny, so sorry about your wrist! Rest and time will be your friend for now. You can still do all those chores later, dear! You have a great crew to keep you company. Best wishes for a happy recovery! Terry

  27. Yow. Hope you heal up very quickly and without further "tadoo" or incident(s). Sounds like you have a plan and it will be fine..as you are a real "trooper". Accidents are unavoidable in life, it seems. :0( .. Take care and hope you are sleeping better..ewe..no sleep is a bad thing. Your babies are so sweet and beautiful..all.

  28. Oh Henny those flowers are beautiful. Never heard of them before. I started Morning Glories from seed this year inside and transplanted them out. They didn't get many flowers maybe about a half dozen or so. But they were a joy when they did bloom. I see today when I went outside it looks like seed pods on them, I heard they are self seeding, so I'm hoping I have more next year. Love them pups and how they lounge about. Hope you are on the mend.

  29. Ha! No room for you in the living room. The pets have all the soft sleeping spots covered. How wonderful that you have all those beauty berry bushes. I’ve been longing for one but there is just not one spot left in our yard to put one. And our neighbor has just given us a second fig tree and I have no idea in the world how we will be fitting that in.
