Pecking out a little post with one finger...

Absolutely, not the best picture I've ever seen of me...

You know what happened?? Walking Ellie early yesterday morning, I dropped her leash, walked way ahead, turned around, opened my arms and yelled, "run Ellie run"! Well she ran alright...picking up speed as she ran...then ran right over the top of me, slamming me to the ground.

Poppy, Eli, and Ellie hovered over me as I moaned in pain. Give me your hand Poppy said, I'll pull you up. No! no! no! I need to stay here a minute, something may be broken. Well, after three hours in the emergency room, the doctor told me I have two broken bones in my wrist. Wearing a splint now, but have an appointment with an orthopedic doctor on Friday. My fingers are awfully swollen.

Woke up this morning feeling like I'd been run over by a truck, My right leg aches and my knee is swollen.

Ellie felt really bad. Said she thought that's how the game went.

Eli says, I told you so! He came straight in the house and got his bear, before it got hurt too.

Just wanted to let you all know. Hopefully, everything will be okay. Why, its just got to be. The State Fair starts this week. Shelby and I have plans to go one day next week. We've missed two years now and have been really excited about going this year. She said, if you're not able to walk, we'll rent a wheelchair and I will push you around.  We both laughed.

Okay,  guess I'm done with this post. Can't go sew, can't do much of anything. Had no idea it would be so hard to function with just one hand. :)

Take care.

Love,

Henny

  1. Oh Melba!!!! I'm so sorry and sweet Ellie is too. She looks just so sad that you're hurt. I guess our little dog wasn't such a bad idea. Ha!!!
I'm going to be praying for you my dear friend, that the pain will go away and you can get the wrist in a cast and go to the fair as you planned.
Wishing you much love and gentle hugs.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  3. Oh dear Henny! I went through this very thing earlier this spring so I know well what you are going through. This too will pass, but in the meantime just look at it as a time to rest and spoil yourself. Hugs and best wishes to you, Dear friend!

  13. Hi Henny- Oh-dear! Hope your Hand -Wrist mends sooner than expected- some things like injury are hard to get over. My friend Annette broke her Ankle and it has been six months healing...I'm fighting a bad Hip- lots of pain tablets- hope it'll wear off soon. Best Wishes.KEV.

  14. OH NO. I'm so sorry this happened! Poor you and poor Ellie! You can tell she feels badly about it. They really feel things deeply when it comes to their people. You have been through the wringer! Gosh, that's a lot of days to wait for the ortho. Here, too, there aren't enough doctors working enough to keep up with demand. Again, so sorry this happened and I will keep you in my prayers and when I say the Rosary. It SEEMED like it would be so fun, to yell for her to run -- they love to run like the wind -- who knew she was playing "steamroller"?

  18. Oh, I'm so sorry you are injured. Not being able to do all the things you usually do is going to be hard on you. Hoping you heal quickly. Maybe you need a teddy bear.

  19. I'm so sorry you got hurt. Hopefully those bones heal quickly because I just know doing nothing is going to be pretty awful for you. I'm assuming you're righthanded and of course, that's the one that got hurt.
The things that happen to us, huh? (((hugs)))

  20. Dear, dear Melba…I am sending my most sympathetic thoughts, and healing prayers. It’s impossible to stay upright when a big, playful dog is going to run right up your body! If you can stand to lie low for awhile, it will get better. The hard part will be watching Poppy try to do your tasks!

  21. God Bless You Henny! And doesn't Ellie look so sad in that picture! Hopefully when you see the Doc on Friday he will say the breaks are clean and you can just have a cast and wait for everything to heal. I will pray for that. Everything is difficult with one hand. Do the best you can and get Poppy to help you with things you can't manage. So sorry that happened to you!

  22. Ooh, so sorry to read Henny, your fingers do look awfully swollen, and I'm sure Ellie would kiss it all better if only she could.
Sending healing thoughts your way, and get-well wishes too.
    Hugs,
    ~Jo

  23. Oh, Henny! I can tell by looking at the picture that 'little' Ellie is so sorry that you got hurt. The delay in seeing the orthopedist will give your injured arm and hand some time for the swelling to go down. You can't get a cast until then anyway. I hope that your swollen knee doesn't keep you from going to the fair with Shelby. Not knowing what that injury might be, I'd at least recommend icing it several times a day and making yourself sit down!! And when you sit, elevate that leg, prop it on pillows and follow the old adage of RICE- rest, ice, compression and elevation. You'll get tired of it real quick, but it will make a lot of difference. I've been there, done that and speak from experience. I got one new knee last fall and will get the other one next month. A sling will help your wrist, too, to keep its swelling from getting worse. My husband's been there, done that! When you're falling it's natural to put out your hand to break your fall. It's just too bad that bones get broken in the process. Let Poppy wait on you and try to keep that knee elevated so you can get back on two good legs sooner. A week of that might make it possible for you to go to the fair! I wish I could help. Sending wishes and prayers for you to get better soon.

  24. Sad to hear about your broken arm. I do hope you heal quickly. I know when you love to be busy outdoors and in your sewing room it will be hard to sit and be patient to heal. Please take care. Sending you best wishes for a quick recovery.

  25. So sorry to hear about your play/walk time accident with your big baby. I hope you will not have to have surgery and there can be healing on its own for your wrist. Also, I hope you and your sis can attend the fair. Life is about whats gonna happen next, right. :0( .. Take care and accept all those hugs from Ellie, as I know she is sorry and you already have forgiven her. :0) ,, But..yow. And none of us need any knee injuries..they do seem to just come as we age, naturally and easily. Take care. So sorry.

  26. Oh no, it looks painful because of the swollen fingers! Hope the pain subsides soon and you don't have to have surgery. Hard to do stuff with one good arm...take good care Melba!

  27. Oh, my goodness poor you! Broken bones are not a lot of fun, but they do mend which is the good part. You can read, you can watch a bunch of TV, you can make plans for summer planting and fun, or you could even just sit around and relax!. I do know that that last one would be terribly difficult for you since you are so industrious and always busy doing something physical. Is it your dominant wrist or the other less useful one? Hoping it the latter since roughing it with only your less capable hand would really be difficult.

They (whoever "they" are) do say that patience is a learned virtue so you will be quite virtuous by the time things are back to normal.

I do hope you can get around enough to go and enjoy the fair, but I bet Shelby will be a big help and you will feel like going in any event.

    Take care.

  29. Oh. my. goodness! I really feel for you, Henny. And your right hand. ugh! I hope this heals quickly. I had a similar thing happen with my dear old dog, Kane. I was walking him, he saw another dog, pulled me right off my feet and I went down and broke two ribs. He couldn't figure out why I was just sitting there for the longest time. I'm so sorry you have to go through this. Look after yourself now and have Poppy put the apron on for awhile and test out his cooking skills. You need to rest. xo

  30. Oh, Henny, I feel your pain...I do hope it is a quick recovery and that the swelling is better by now. When you feel up to it, do a little post on how you are getting on. Are you righthanded?

  31. Oh, Henny Penny!! I'm so very sorry! Dogs love us so, but the bigger ones can be exuberant. I hope you heal quickly and fully. And I hope you get to go to the fair! Bless you. It IS hard to be out of commission like that. Love and hugs to you.

  32. Oh, Henny, no!! I do the same thing with Bob all the time but fortunately she has never knocked me over. Of course, she is probably half the size of Eli, who I’m sure feels really bad about the way things turned out. I hope it’s feeling much better by now and the cast won’t have to stay on too too long. Big gentle hug from me to you!
