What now!

Oh dear! I've just deleted my last post and can't find a way to restore it. Don't know how I manage do these things!! 😕

Smokey keeps watch over the cut-over from the top of the car. I tried to tip-toe past....

but he heard me....

by the way, let me tell you about that cut-over...

Instead of the hundred acres of trees that once grew there we now have a hundred acres of weeds...

Tall fuzzy weeds! Strange weeds! Weeds higher than my head!

and for at least a month now we have watched what looks like snow blowing through the yard. It is unbelievable! Look at this little cedar tree...

simply covered in white fuzz! Looks cold and icy, doesn't it?  I have searched for the name of this weed and can't find it.  Willie, would you have any idea? Here's a close-up...

These fuzzy things are everywhere! There's a layer floating on the pond, and it's stuck in all the spiderwebs, it's in Eli's hair, and in my hair. Have even had it in my eyes.

Okay, you know what I hate most about the new blogger? The size of the print changes, all by itself! Drives me crazy!

I spent three days last week cleaning the goat barn, the chicken house, and the bunny lot.

So the two white bunnies now have nice clean pens with wire on the bottom...no more digging. I added dirt, then soft clean hay...

Monday morning I discovered the bunny on the right had dug a huge tunnel and was in the  pen with the bunny on the left. That would have been fine except these two rabbits fight.

Strange, they don't like each other. Before they came here, they were kept in a very small cage with hardly room to turn around. Now, with their own space, they hardly speak to each other. :)

Oh, I've been meaning to show you...
this is a full view of the bunny pen. They have plenty of protection from the rain. This was back in 2016 when Bun Bun was my only bunny. The pen is now sectioned off into four lots and that huge dog house is out of there. I love my bunny rabbits!

Okay, I've got to show you this spider...

This guy had a web that went from a low growing bush, all the way up into a tall tree...

kinda makes me shiver...
and see the fuzzy seed pod in his web?

might as well show you this too...speaking of making me shiver...

My first time ever, seeing one of these. It's an Eastern hog-nose, or spreading adder snake. It was short and fat with such a weird shaped head. Thankfully, this was not in our yard. We were with friends at their home about ten miles from here.

Guess I've driven you all away with this, so I will end here. Hope you will come back...love to have you visit any time! :)

Love,
Henny

  1. Smokey sure is doing a good job keeping watch! Those little white weed pods almost look like a variation of dandelions although you can tell they are certainly not any regular dandelions. That snake is just plain scary to me! I don't do well with any kind of snakes even the ones that are supposed to be safe. You sure do have the bunny pens looking good! All of your critters are sure lucky to have you. You and Poppy take care!

  2. That is a crazy fuzzy weed! And it makes such a mess!
Funny bunnies - that was quite a tunnel. And quite a spider web too!
We had one of those snakes in our yard some years ago. Harmless, but I still don't like to see them.

  3. Oh, I do NOT like snakes, esp. close up ... even in photos! Glad that was not at your house :) Your bunnies are so cute. I'm sorry about all those weeds. Honestly, if they were going to clear that field, they should keep it mowed now, unless it's full of stumps. That's not being neighborly of them, IMO.
New blogger has been a bit frustrating, yes. Too many new things to learn, although I suppose it's supposed to be better.

  4. I don’t like snakes. I would have freaked. Also, there is a free app called “PictureThis”. You take a picture of the plant and it identifies it. I love it for mystery plants.

  5. That is one creepy looking snake! Yikes!
I think you need to register a complaint with the owner of that logged off property. What if you had serious allergies? And you will be fighting weeds now forever with all of those seeds blowing onto your property.

  6. I was so enjoying the fun tour of the place you call home until I saw that snake - Nothing scares me more than seeing one, nothing makes me more nervous than accidentally stumbling onto one. Glad this one was 10 miles away from you, however, that's still too close! :-)

  7. So someone took the trees and ruin the land by letting weeds grow.

  8. I hope somebody can identify the weeds that are giving off all that fuzzy stuff. What nice habitation you have for your beloved bunnies....they're so lucky to have you taking care of them.
and OH what an awful looking snake. I zipped past that picture fast because I cannot stand snakes...even little grass snakes like we have sometimes. That snake is so big and ugly...I think I would faint if I saw it. You are brave to live in a place with snakes like that. Thanks for coming back to visit!

  9. Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure that snake is harmless. I believe they flatten and puff out their heads like cobras. It's a defensive thing. I may be wrong, though. Your bunnies must be happy now in their clean, comfy beds. We have a field of weeds to the west of us. Nobody cut down trees, but it has been subdivided into lots which nobody is buying. It used to be productive farmland for a while, but now it's just scrub and weeds. Our cat is continuously covered in burs. -Jenn

  10. Oh I would not like to come across that snake in my garden Henny Penny! That would be so scary. YES - I find the same with the new blogger. It changes the print size & does whatever it jolly well pleases. I don't know what was wrong with the old blogger - it worked fine to me!

  11. I'm so sorry the trees are gone and the weeks have come. It seems so sad to me. I love trees and now you have a nuisance of a plant that spreads woe wherever it goes.
Those bunnies have hard heads don't they? I never realized they could tunnel that fast. You take such good care of your animals.
Spiders and snakes. Two of my least favorite things besides mice. Yuck!
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  12. ooooO¬! What a great/fantastic post..Spiders and snakes!
I love spiders and snakes along with sharks..fascinating
creatures..watch and read about them ALL day long..!

Now! The tree..I believe the tree is commonly known as
'Northern White Cedar Tree'...and can be used as hedging..
It does grow in your part of the world..I'll do a little
    digging later..(no pun intended)..see if l'm right! :).

Ah! Good old Smokey..keeping his eye on things..and those
awful weeds, but, we must remember ALL plants started off
as weeds..until some were found to be good enough to eat! :).
Many still are..Dandelion leaves..very nice in salads, crisp
    and a little bitter taste..nice!

Well..just gone seven over here, time for another lemon tea,
dark in the mornings now, though couple more days of dry
    weather..rain on Wednesday..! :(

    1. Ah! Sorry Henny..
I was looking and reading the wrong
picture..it's the weed you need identifying,
well..it's not a Dandelion as the photo
      suggests..I think it's a form of 'Grounsel'.
      Often known as the 'old-man-in-the-spring',
It is a flowering plant belonging to the daisy
family...The plant spreads by reseeding itself..
This may be of some interest..

  13. Hi Henny- Good to see you getting things done before Winter sets in. Please try to persevere with the new Blogger - I've been at it near a months and have no problems at all. Regards. KEV.

  14. Such a shame to lose the trees and then get all that weed. Can you make a complaint, it would be terrible to get a load of weeds passing on to your property. A joy to have a little tour of the bunny lot, not so much the snake.

  15. Oh my word-the SNAKE. I'm so glad he wasn't in your yard-but I'm guessing maybe you have them? Or maybe even rattlers? Yeesh. Your gray cat is so pretty. So are the bun buns. SO sorry about the trees and the fluffy weeds.

  16. Whatever those fluffy weeds are, you're sure to have them in your yard, garden and flower beds! Noxious
looking, I'd say. Love that Smokey! Did he help do the bunny pen? The rabbits look great and clean and happy.
Funny they don't socialize that close together. Love the snake picture. I have nothing against those creatures.

  17. You have been busy as usual...always love to see and hear what you have been up to. Spiders are amazing creatures...I hate getting in their web though. Specially those in the woods that have the 'pinecomb' back...do you know the ones I am talking about. That is my description of them.

  18. Why can't flowers grow with such hardiness, unprompted & unplanted by human hands, like weeds? Then again, why are weeds held in distain and flowers not? Things to ponder on this rainy day here in Indiana. ~Andrea xoxo

  19. Hi Henny,
I always enjoy reading your posts and catching up with you.
That snake is very colorful.. but you can keep him down south. Ha Ha. ;-)
    Take Care,

  20. What a nuisance that weed is getting into everything.
I don't usually mind snakes but that one looks like you don't want to mess with is!!!

  21. What horrid weeds to have near you. I hope their seeds don't start growing all over your place as well.
The bunnies are so sweet, I figure they must be two males if they are fighting?
I am not a fan of spiders and we have no snakes here - that one looks kind of fascinatingly pretty in a strange way.
I always enjoy reading your posts :) xx

  22. Your bunnies get the best loving care!! I wonder why, if those 2 fight, did the one bother to tunnel over for a visit? My little Cinnamon Bun is still an only bunny and doesn't seem to mind.
I'm not a fan of snakes nor big spiders. This time of year spider webs are everywhere waiting for me to run into them.

  23. Always love your posts! I have never seen that snake either. Its getting cooler up here in the mountains, so I hope you enjoy this beautiful fall... it is raining and raining here, hope your weather is nicer. That's a really nice bunny pen, I bet that they love it.

  24. Isn’t it amazing how quickly nature’s scars are covered over, and with something completely different from what grew there before? Where were those weeds, all those varieties of plants, when the trees own this acre? Dormant I guess, lying in wait for their turn to rise up. That’s a beautiful snake.

  25. Wow what a snake! I love Smokey he is so handsome. I would love to rub him and hear him purr. I hope you and Poppy are doing well Love you bunches

  26. Hi Henny! When you mentioned "spider" I hit the scroll button lol...I can't look at them! Or snakes! LOL...I'm such a wuss...your bunnies are so cute and I love their pen! Oh the weeds, wow, that's really something! I guess the trees were shading them too much and they didn't grow before?

  27. Could that weed be called Groundsel? Looks like it. Those wascally wabbits as Bugs Bunny would say. They do seem to be ignoring each other in the pen. I had to skip by that snake real fast. Don't these type of snakes play dead if threatened? It's what I have heard. Sorry but if it's way too close, it would have to be really dead.
I don't like this new blogger much. I have to keep enlarging the fonts and the pictures don't enlarge like they use too. Not with me anyway. You have a great week ahead.
