A piece of art

Oh friends, I have something beautiful to show you...something that means the world to me...

This piece of artwork was painted by my nephew Randy. He painted it especially for me, and that touches my heart.

This is a gift I never dreamed of getting.

I have posted before about my brother Jackie.  Jackie died from a heart attack when he was only 49 years old, leaving behind three wonderful children, Vicki, Cindy, and Randy. Randy was the youngest.

Randy now has a wonderful wife and two adorable little boys, and they live in Tennessee. I rarely see Randy and his family. In fact, I've never seen his two boys except in pictures. You can imagine my surprise when my sister Shelby called and said, "we need to get together. You have a surprise gift here".

Shelby and I met in Wake Forest yesterday and she brought me this gift. Randy also gifted her with one of his paintings. It's just the sweetest thing. Thank you Randy, from the bottom of my heart.

and now an update on our striking hens...

one of those girls gave in after all these weeks and laid an egg! It was like finding a chunk of gold. Poppy said, "if I knew which one it was I'd let her spend the night in here with us tonight...even sprinkle a little corn around on the floor for her."

Oh, we woke up to terribly high winds and pouring rain in the middle of the night last night. Eli came in from the porch and jumped in the bed between Poppy and me. The temperature is supposed to drop to 17 by morning. Strange weather still!

Here it is bedtime once again! Thank you for visiting...and a special thank you to a new follower, Linda Gremillion.

Oh Randy...again, thank you! I love the painting, and tomorrow will find a special spot to hang it in our little dining area.

Love,
Henny

  3. The painting from your nephew is just gorgeous Henny. What a sweet surprise gift ... something to treasure. I have been feeding my neighbours chooks while they are away & they are not laying for me either!

  4. The painting is just beautiful. I love the colors that Randy chose, too. That's a funny story about the egg. As big as Eli is, even if you have a king-size bed, that would be a tight fit with him in there, too. But I don't blame him one bit. I would want to be in a comfy warm spot, too.

Love your new painting Henny. What a special gift from Randy! And I love that Eli....he must have gotten scared out on the porch! I'm watching for the Blood Wolf Moon tonight...the skies are clear here and extremely cold and below zero. Can't wait to see where you hang that painting. Hope all of our weather warms up soon!

  6. Randy must be a very special man to paint such a beautiful work of art for you! Not only is he quite talented but obviously very thoughtful as well! I can just imagine Eli in bed with you and Poppy! I bet no one got cold with all that beautiful warm fur in bed. Good to see the egg - maybe that is just a warm up for more to come. I hope your weather has calmed down and you, Poppy and all the furry and feathered critters are doing well!

Too bad you're having such wild weather. Hopefully you'll get some sunshine this week!
Did you get to see the lunar eclipse tonight? Luckily we had clear skies so had a clear view of it.

  17. What a sweet painting, a wonderful gift from your nephew, which makes it all the more special.

Your weather sounds so much colder that ours down here. It was 44 with real feel of 37 when I got up around 5:30 this morning. That is 'cold' for s.e. FL.

Have a warm, cozy day inside. Love & hugs ~ FlowerLady

  20. Hello. I hope you're okay. The seasons are really intense. Where I live is very hot, my son in NY said to have a lot of snow, are the seasons happening. Sometimes it freaks out, but in the end we're okay.

  21. That is a fantastic piece of art! It is beautiful.

When I got up this morn, it was 6º...doesn't feel a whole lot warmer yet! But we do have some sun so I can live with it.

  23. How nice of your nephew, Henny. Is there anything sweeter than a painting done by someone you love of something that you hold dear. It will look beautiful in your dining area. My neighbour Lucy has so few eggs that we are without farm fresh eggs until spring. :-( That's funny what Poppy said. :-) And Elli in bed with you. Now that's a cozy addition on a cold night. We have -27C with high winds today. My heart breaks for anything outside and I am at the mercy of our resident critters and birds. Heading out again soon with more food. Stay Cozy.

  26. That is a gift to treasure for sure. It is perfectly lovely. I had to laugh at the thought of Eli jumping into the middle of the bed, it must have felt like an earthquake, he is one big boy. My Herbie comes and jumps on the bed when he decides it is time that we were up and about, it is quite a shock.

  27. Dearest Henny I can see why you love your new painting. It is beautiful and made even more special because you know the artist well :)!! As for Eli jumping into bed with you and Poppy - makes me smile...our two German Shepherds often join hubby and I there. It is like we all are safe together and part of the pack. Have a lovely day friend. Hugs!

  30. What a wonderful gift. :-)
I've heard that hens often stop laying this time of year. Something to do with daylight.
I hope your egg means they are starting again!
    God bless.

  33. What a special gift and one that I know will be treasured. My questions is, when Eli jumps in your bed, is there still room for you and the hubby? He's a very big dog, LOL.
    Sweet post . . . I enjoyed my visit as always :)
