The storm

Today friends, you can call me "Chicken Little" instead of Henny Penny. There is an awful storm coming our way. Those of you who have read my blog for any length of time, know that I am terribly afraid of storms.

This Hurricane Florence has kept on the same path, growing and gaining in strength, and seems bound and determined to hit the North Carolina coast.

Poppy and I are absolutely surrounded by tall trees...too many trees, as a matter of fact. If we can just get through this Hurricane Florence without a tree falling on either of us, or the house, or an animal, we will be so thankful.

and these trees seem to lean in every direction. If the ground is saturated and we get 60 plus, mph winds, well, it's going to be scary for sure.

Today on the noon news and weather, Governor Cooper called this storm "a monster", and like nothing we've ever seen.

Poppy had to work today, so tomorrow we will do what we can to keep things outside from blowing away. I did put together another wooden bench inside the cozy part of the goat barn. Goats, at least these two, can't stand the rain...

and since the front of the barn is wide open, they now have more protection.

I'll cover two sides of the bunny lot with tarps, to protect them from the wind and rain.

And the guineas! Please keep your fingers crossed that I will be able to coax them into their old lot behind the little chicken house. It's a cozy spot where they will be safe. I can't stand the thought of them roosting high up in that old cedar in the rain and wind. All eight of them might get blown away. Sometimes they will listen and follow me...but sometimes not.

I hope and pray everyone in the path of this storm will stay safe. If possible, I will try to post updates of what's happening right here during the storm.

Thank you...

Love,
Henny

Dear Henny, I've started praying for you and all the critters at your place already! Poppy too! May you be spared the worst of the storm and come out of it OK. What part of NC are you living in? I have a sister about half an hour from Charlotte. May you all be safe! Prayers for Shelby too!

  15. We will put you in our prayers too. The closer this bad girl Florence gets, the scarier it gets. I pray y'all and every one of your sweet animals will be kept safe and that you will weather this storm just fine. I'm not sure of your location, so don't know if you've been evacuated or not? Or if you will be remaining home. Either way, stay safe!!

  20. I just heard about this last night and thought of you, instantly. I will continue to pray for you and everyone on the path of this storm. Good luck with those guineas... You know, I thought animals knew when a a bad storm was coming and would be the first to head for cover. Hopefully the guineas are those kinds of animals and will heed your call. Many blessings to you, your family, and neighbours.

Can you believe Sam now is also in this hurricane. He is in South Carolina. I do not think it is to hit as bad as is to your North Carolina, but I know nothing about hurricanes.

Praying my dear friend, love to you,

  38. Happy Birthday, dear Henny Penny.
I am not able to access your latest post ( the Storm went South). Maybe could you re-post it?
    I'm glad you're okay.

  39. Happy Birthday, Henny! I, too, saw your post about the storm going south and then it disappeared! I hope that's not a indication that you're having hurricane-related problems. I was channel surfing earlier and saw a report of a tornado warning for Tarboro, NC. The map also showed Raleigh so I knew it was in your general direction. Thank goodness tornadoes have a very narrow path. Hurricanes damage hundreds of miles of land in all directions while tornadoes only harm what's in their narrow path. I remember that a couple of years ago you went to the outer banks to celebrate your birthday and Andee's. I wonder how the area fared with Florence's arrival. I hate to see all the beautiful buildings and trees damaged from storms like this. Stay safe. I hope your girls and Shelby escaped the storm's wrath. I'm glad you, Poppy and your animals, including those stubborn guineas, are all OK.
