It's me again

What a happy surprise to see the sun come out yesterday afternoon! Thank goodness Hurricane Florence is moving on!

I'm sorry for posting about the storm, then deleting the post. The storm has been devastating for NC. My post sounded silly and foolish.

Even this morning on the news we are hearing there is still no way in or out of Wilmington due to flooding. Isn't that a scary thought for those in Wilmington? We saw too, a crew from New York who are here to help, putting a rescue boat on Interstate 40, going to Wilmington. Hard to picture a boat traveling down I-40.

Hope to get back to normal today...I want clean up the yard a little; it is littered with sticks, tree limbs, and leaves which, believe me, is nothing to complain about! I've got to put up deer fencing too, around the row of Rose of Sharon plants. We noticed the deer have eaten them down to nubs again! :(

So, I should get busy and start by getting all the animals around here fed. Speaking of animals...

here's a few who've had it made through all the rain and wind.

Poppy bought two big fluffy camouflage (of course) comforters for the dogs to sleep on this winter.

somebody got a new toy...

where did it go!

and last but certainly not least, our Smokey who got all kinds of treats from Poppy yesterday for surprising us with a dead mouse just outside the front door.

Thank you for your friendship.

Love,
Henny

And..ALL the fluffy four legged lodgers..HeHe!
Florrie has been covered as the main news over
here, yours and the Philippines, and they've
just said that 40 bodies have been found under
that landslide! Terrible thing to happen! :(.

Still..Onwwards and Upwards..as the song says..

    1. Thank you Willie. There has been nothing but Florence on the news here for days now. That is so sad about the Philippines. I am so sorry to hear that. The words of that song are so true!

  2. Hi Eli :-) Glad you made it through the storm okay.

  3. Glad to see you made it through the storm without those big trees going down. And thank goodness that dead mouse was outside. My daughter's dog Wrigley, when he was young, killed things outside and proudly brought them in through the dog door to show his mama. He did not get the praise he was expecting though.

    1. Thank you Sharon. That's so funny. Glad we don't have a dog door. There's no telling what would get brought in by these animals.

  4. So glad you made it through ok. The pictures from Wilmington are awful.

  5. Your pets are special and fun for us to see how much you love them. Glad the Hurricane Storm did not do any major damage to your house and yard. I saw the video's of the wind blowing you had up for awhile. Always happy to hear you are safe.

    1. I appreciate that. We were really spared from the bad part of the storm and I am so thankful for that.

  7. Whew! I'm glad to hear from you. I guess I'm a worrier; I'm relieved that you two, the animals and your home are all okay. Those huge trees close to the house bothered me when I kept seeing video on the news of similar trees being uprooted. Do you have any idea of how much rain you got over the duration of the storm? I've had the morning news on TV and reporters are finally standing in the sun. My computer says that this was posted at 4:14 AM. If that's right, you must be needing a nap about now!

    1. Peg, thank you! I appreciate that so much. We had wind and rain the day Florence made landfall, but nothing bad. Then we just had rain, mostly light and steady for four days and occasionally a strong gust of wind. I told Dan, the prayers of all my blogging friends were answered. Actually we got three inches of rain, which is nothing. The yard is littered in green leaves and sticks. It's messy looking around here, but I sure can't complain. I was up at 4:15 but didn't get on the computer until 5:30, when Dan left for work. I am ready for a nap though. :)

  8. We've seen pictures of the devastation in cities, but only one picture of what appeared to be poultry houses. One can't imagine the extent of damage done to farmland, farm buildings, and farm animals. I'm wondering how this will affect the cost of food items in the coming years.

Glad the trees stood tall and strong during the storm!

    1. Thank you! You know, I've worried so much about farm animals, and chickens, and rabbits, but I haven't even thought about poultry houses. That would be horrible to lose a house full of chicks, or chickens ready for the market. It's sad, isn't it?

  9. Henny glad to see you made it through the storm safely. My prayers are with all those in the Carolinas and along the coast. Looks like the four legged friends were safe and sound too. Hugs!

  11. So pleased to see that you are all well, and that the storm did no damage. We had the tail end of one of the storms last night. The wind was shrieking through the valley but the only damage was a few small branches and the odd plastic garden pot. I only had 1 apple on the ground but then we are sheltered by the Morriston mountain. Good to see the animals are all taking it easy.

  12. I'm very happy to hear that the storm didn't hit you too hard. I've never lived in a flooded area, it must be horrible. I cannot image water coming into my home and the damage that can do. I hope that Shelby fared as well, where she lives.
I've said it before and I'll probably say it again . . . your animals are so blessed to have you as their caregivers :)
    Stay happy.

  13. Wonderful news that you were not damaged by the storm, or high winds and flooding, it surely has been a nail-biting week for those in the storm's path.
I love seeing your animals Henny, they are so content and loved beyond measure.
Autumn is just around the corner, I'm excited !

  15. I missed your now deleted post, but am so glad that you came through relatively unscathed. I was following the maps posted of how they expected different areas to be affected. I couldn't quite remember where in the state you are, but I did remember Raleigh and Wake Forest being mentioned so I looked up where they were and thought that with some luck you would be okay. Certainly devastating for some people though, I just can't imagine...

    1. Thank you Karen. You were exactly right about the area. We are just north of Raleigh. The storm went farther south than first predicted so we were out of the worst part. The yard is littered in leaves and sticks and small tree limbs but we get that in a bad thunderstorm.

  17. The sun has been out here all day, too, but the humidity has been 100%. I don't see how that can be. Poor Wilmington, and closer to us, little Conway SC. It's awful and I feel so sorry for them. I'm glad you made it through unscathed, as did we except decidedly poorer as we had to evacuate and pay for lodging for five nights. I'm not complaining though, just very thankful. Always fun to see your pets.

    1. Oh Cynthia, won't you be glad when this hot sticky humid weather changes. I feel so sorry for all those folks still without power and no AC, not even a fan. I've been thinking about you both. Like you, I am very thankful.

  18. Our hearts have certainly gone out to all of those in Florence's path. It will take a long time for those flooded areas to recover. It certainly makes all of our problems seem small. All of your furry friends look so healthy and happy.

  23. Hello,
I am glad you are safe! Thank You for the prayers for Sam and for us as we waited to see what the hurricane would do. We received an ALL CLEAR call from Sam. He said they are now in the clear of the storm.
Prayers to all with the clean up.
    Love, Carla

    1. Thank you Carla. I know you must have been so happy to get that call from Sam. Since his basic training started off with all this excitement, maybe it will be quiet now for the rest of his time in SC. Let's hope so. You never stop worrying about your children, no matter how old they are.

  24. I'm so relieved that you're okay. All the TV coverage of the devastation not only in the U.S. but the Philipines and China really depressed me so I had to quit watching. Adding to the feeling of helplessness were problems here when our youngest son had his tools, tool belt, even his work shoes stolen. Then his truck died and today he cut his hand badly at work. I know, doesn't it just sound like a Country song?

    1. Thank you Granny Marigold. Oh, it really does get depressing. There were many times during the storm that we turned off the TV. It gets to you after a while. I am so sorry about your son. Bless his heart. So much at once. I can't imagine people who can steal...and taking his shoes too! That is unbelievable! That does sound like an old country song. :)

  28. It seems like each year a storm hits and devastates it's target area. I just can't put into words or vocalize my feelings about what I see and the turmoil the people and pets involved are going through. One can only pray.

  29. What a relief to hear from you! I didn't receive this post in my inbox, nor the previous one you erased, but I came over here worried about you and wanting to leave a comment-- somewhere, anywhere-- wishing you well. So glad that you are, and you know, when I heard that the hurricane arrived a category 1 instead of 3 that had been predicted I gave thanks that our prayers had been answered for you. And truly, despite the work you have with the clean-up, it seems everyone's prayers were surely answered as you and your home are going to be ok. All the best to you and I know I'll keep praying for the rest of the folks affected by this storm and the people in the Philippines, so many need help.

    1. Thank you Pilar. You know, I believe all those prayers were answered too. If that storm had stayed a category 4, as it was at one time, and had come through the center of NC, oh my goodness. But it's still so tragic for so many people. My little bit of cleaning up is nothing. We've had worse thunderstorms than what we got from Florence.
