Lilies and Poppies

Thank you dear friends for your friendship and your kindness.  Don't know why I've had such a hard time blogging lately. We've sure missed having Bickett underfoot and in charge here.

Could these big red lilies have bloomed just for Bickett? I think so.

After all, I was expecting Stargazer lilies. Seriously, didn't I post about looking forward to the Stargazer lilies blooming this summer?

Anyhow, we've got these tall lanky red lilies swaying in the breeze above the birdbath, looking a little odd and out of balance,

not exactly what I had in mind here.

 large and in charge

good grief, here's a poppy and a lily.

Speaking of Poppy, Friday morning we had to quickly clear another little spot in the woods not far from the greenhouse and garden...

and not too far from the playhouse...

when Lowes called and said there had been a cancellation and the builder could be here in one hour to put up the building.

Did we ever do some scampering around. Two trees needed to be cut down and moved, and the spot leveled a bit, then raked clean. We finished up just before the truck backed into the driveway.

We got the building painted over the weekend and now all that's needed is the ramp built. This building will hold Poppy's new four-wheeler and the riding lawn mower. I know, wouldn't this have made the cutest playhouse! painted pink, maybe. :)

found this pretty yellow lily in bloom up at the garden.

Oh well! Guess this is it for now. Hope to be back soon...and I've simply got to show you how the teeny tiny garden has grown.

Love,
Henny

  2. Those Lilies are gorgeous, my goodness they are tall, aren't they. Love the sweet little building. It would look so pretty in pink. May you have a gentle week, lovely lady.

  3. Those buildings are pretty expensive, especially with the added cost in labor

  4. Wow those lilies certainly are tall. Don't think I've ever seen them that tall. I have some red ones just like you but only about 1/3 the size. They are pretty though. I think they look like velvet.
Nice new shed for Poppy. : )

  5. Your new shad is great! Yes, It would have made a great playhouse. That's what our shed became during the summer when the garden furniture and grills came out and the kids were little. Now it's just a shed. But I decorate the outside. You can too!

  6. Sure would be a cute She-Shed! Maybe another one would fit in too?

  8. Some things have a mind of their own like lilies and building stores!

  9. My but that red Lily is tall! I really like that yellow one. It's so lovely with the brown(?) freckles.
The new building would have been such a nice playhouse for you. Maybe Poppy can build a nice lean-to for you. That would make it so much easier than building from scratch.

  13. Those red lilies are so tall that they look like they'd fall over at any time. The blooms are pretty on them, but they are kind of weird. The yellow one is beautiful. You two sure got that spot for Poppy's shed ready in a hurry! I hope it wasn't almost a hundred degrees with high humidity while you worked on it. I totally understand your lack of blogging since Bickett's passing. Sometimes you just "can't". No matter what it is that you want or need to do, you just can't. I know that sometimes when I'm not feeling well it makes me angry and then I "just can't' . It may sound crazy to some, but it has happened to me. It's kind of like the wind is taken out of your sails to the extreme. Only time will make it better. Don't worry about not posting; we'll be here when you're ready. I always so enjoy your blog!

  14. Oh my that red lily is beautiful and so is the yellow one. I am still wanting to get a building but then I think about how cluttered my house is so why do I want a building to clutter up to. I am slowly convincing the Farmer to let me store stuff in grandma's house. I really need to be more organized than I am . I need to start in one room and clean out everything I don't use anymore. I have good intention to do this but It has not happened yet. Oh well. Love you bunches

  15. I love those tall lilies! They look like something out of a fairy tale. Maybe they are a prettier version of the beanstalk in Jack and the Beanstalk!

  16. Losing a favorite pet is so hard. It takes me forever, or maybe never, to really get over it. Henny Penny Lane is looking mighty fine, and just in time for the longest day! Happy summer, Henny!

  17. Gorgeous Lilies and that shed just asks to be painted and feminised. I often long for a shed of my own but space is too tight.

  19. First of all, I am so sorry to hear about Bickett. I know that your heart must be broken.
Those lilies are beautiful and I'm happy that you took that photo with Poppy standing next to them. Until seeing that I had no idea just how tall they were. I have never seen lilies that tall. Leave it to you and your marvelous green thumb :)

  20. Oh my word! I have never seen a lily grow like that! A mystery to be sure and just maybe it was placed there for a special purpose. I know it is so difficult to lose our fur babies. My son is most likely going to have to put his beloved Buddy down today...he's a 12 year old Carolina Dog that they have raised from a puppy. They most definitely are a huge part of our families. Hugs!

  22. Well, yesterday I couldn't get anything to post but apparently today I can. Weird!

That is one tall lilly. I don't think I've ever seen one so tall-----it certainly must like the soil around your birdbath. Maybe you could dig them up this fall and put them somewhere else where they would be more in keeping with the surroundings. Real Stargazers would be lovely around that birdbath.

It's always good to have a few fall plans tucked away in case you run out of ideas although with you in the mix that seems unlikely. :o)

  24. Your new little building is perfect! It fits right in to that woodsy spot. And what a tall lily! I've never ever seen one so tall. I had stargazers in my wedding bouquet, as I recall. I know you're lonely for Bickett. He left you too soon :(

  25. What a dream, beautiful flowers, and to live in the middle of nature.

  26. I love Bickett's lily! Wow, beautiful, I loved the stargazers too, but that is something special. Bickett is sending his love for you, you always have the prettiest flowers. Have a blessed weekend, Henny. Love ya! Terry

  27. I've never seen a lily that tall! I love the color, though. I have a full pot of impatiens blooming which I imagined would spread sort of sideways all around, kind of rounding over the pot. Well, instead they are standing straight up and just keep getting taller until now they are all out of proportion to the pot. You never know what a plant is going to do!
